Русская орфография, два простых слова могут соединяться соединительными гласными О и Е. Белая Русь ( два простых слова ) --> Белоруссия ( сложное слово с соединительной гласной О ) Вторая буква С в слове русский появилась с Петра первого на западный манер. Ибо в иностранных языках Русь фиксируется с удвоенной С.
