Frank Marino is not only a shred master, but he is a master of Blues, Jazz & Hendrix. He is one the favourite guitar players of YOUR favourite guitar player. He recently put out a concert video of a 6 Hour concert he performed. Unfortunately, he can't play any more so all we have is in the past now.

If I recall correctly, when they taped the show, the drum track was corrupted somehow and was really quiet. Frank spent something like 8 to 10 years remastering the sound and then released the performance ( on DVD and Blu-ray) An excellent demonstration of his prowess, imo. Real Live is a phenomenal double live album worth checking out.

Jimi for sure did this cover before Frank, but watch Jimi plaing live and compare him to this version.Frank plays much of the solos like Jimi but adds in his own thing as well.I like this cover better than Jimi's.When Frank goes into his beast mode, there isn't anything like it.As far as one of Franks own songs that he wrote, listen to 'It's Begun To Rain' from live at the Agora,or 'The Answer' from the same concert from the Agora another of his own songs.Frank was inspired by many including Jimi, but is a genious, and playing and singing at the same time shows what he can do.If you want to hear another master try listening and watching Robin Trower play 'Daydream' live from the Rockpalast in 2006,I think you'll be blown away by his ability to play the guitar. Both he and Frank inspired many of the so called greats you hear today! Peace my brother!

Yes it is a Bob Dylan song and Hendrix was a huge Dylan fan and did a cover of it in the 60s. M R's version came later and was actually more of a cover of the Hendrix version. No fancy effects just straight into the amp and had it cranked up at live shows. Frank Marino was incredible.

I got to see Frank Marino back in 1975. Had no clue who he was. Frank & Co. opened for Black Sabbath. After watching Frank, watching Black Sabbath was anti-climatic. 47 years later, I can still remember that concert clearly because of Frank Marino's killer guitar skills. Severely underrated. Ted Nugent & Frank Marino were on tour together and Ted wanted to do a guitar duel... like in the movie Crossroads. To put it mildly, Frank ate Ted's lunch. Totally smoked him. You should watch Frank play Johnny B Goode. He kills it.

Just happen to run across your site while watching Frank Marino! If you want to really know what this Gentleman was all about, KZbin Frank Marino + Mahogany Rush / Strange Universe full album! Sit back, take the time, and you will experience one of the broadest examples of what a true '70's rock + roll guitarist was capable of! I was lucky enough to have seen him at Constitution Hall here in DC, back in '79 or so! When he played the Star Spangled Banner, with the incoming bomb sounds coming from his axe, it was incredible! I think that can be found on the net also! Anyways, found you interesting, and will be back!

Never got that into SRV because FM > SRV, and even though Stevie was great, I just felt Frank deserved that level of acclaim first, and more. Check out It's Begun to Rain live at the Agora or any live version of Poppy. Other songs: Talkin' Bout a Feeling, The Answer, You Got Livin'... there's a lot. Frank is certainly well-known by "the fans" & other guitar players. No doubt, that he's on a very short list of "GOAT"(IMO). I once had a girlfriend that was connected to Mahogany Rush through her ex-husband...I "tip my hat" to you, Sue. You were an amazing woman. I'll never forget when I introduced you to the members of The Jefferson Starship, as you turned to Craig Chaquico and telling him: "well, you're getting better, but, you got a long way to go"...hard to compete with Frank Marino!

"The Answer" is one of my favorites. I personally like this version better than the Hendrix version. The guitar is better, vocals more gritty, arrangement more creative. I was in the front row when Frank played Winterland in the 1970s and he had a strobe light on him and he was spinning his guitar around in the strobe light and it was freaky cool.
