COUNTRY DANCE SPINS - A weird little trick for better 2 Step turns

If you want to improve your spins, watch this country dance spins tutorial with Anthony and Rose Lewis of Country Dance X.
It's weird how such a tiny little trick could make your 2 step turns so much better. For many country dancers, it may seem like common sense... but it's crazy how sometimes an overlooked detail can cause so many problems with your country two step spins.
The same concept taught in this country dancing spins tutorial would also apply the same way to west coast swing, country swing, and more.

Knowing which direction she can turn based on which foot is in front allows an experienced lead to help a beginning follow who gets her footwork mixed up. You can just turn her when it is comfortable for her and start your counting over again. She won't even know. She just thinks you are "so easy to dance with" ;)

That's it! That's exactly it and the main ingredient of being a great leader. Make it about making it easy and making her comfortable, and she'll want to keep dancing with you ;-)

First, thank you for making your videos so clear and concise. They are great instructional tools. I have been recently asked to teach a dance class and this technique is so important to learn I wanted to see how you break it down and teach it so I can be a better teacher. Great job, Anthony & Rose!

Such a good video. Have had problems trying to get inexperienced partner to understand this. Experienced follower trying to help in this situation often does not end well. Hope I can send him this video and tactfully explain that this is what I have been trying to help him with. I know, I know, we need more lessons.. Thanks for listening.

Both of you are so good in teaching and making these videos. Would like to see one when facing each other yu continually turn in a circlle traveling down line of dance as it is difficult for feet of both partners to keep doing the continual turns.

That sounds like you may be talking about partner pivots? We do have some videos here that have those as an element.

Another great video!!!! I think something y'all can discuss in a further video, that would be very beneficial on the social scene, is "what should the lead do if the lead knows the follow is on the wrong foot"? Definitely on the social scene either the guy or girl can very easily be on the wrong foot after a bunch of moves have just finished. If the lead isn't paying attention to the follows feet, and either the lead's or follow's feet are off, the lead will unknowingly initiate moves when the follow isn't on the correct foot and then things go down hill. So then you can give several options on how to correct that issue if it comes up, such as the lead simply correcting his footwork to get on the same page with the follow's footwork.

That’s a great point that could be easily resolved. We should do a follow up video to this one as it seems it’s kinda along the same topic. We’ll never get over your username, btw

It sounds like you’re talking about partner pivots. We don’t have a video exclusively on those, but they do appear “in” some videos of longer patterns.

Please add a video on a traveling turning down the line of dance both in 2 step and Waltz as this seems to be difficult traveling the line of dance or put a link if already made. I mean when you are facing each other and not in prominade position

Great content. But did you ever think maybe of sharing a bit the instructions with the lady. Like give her some moments for commenting also. If you talk a little slower, she can insert some comments and we can actually hear them. Because sometimes we cannot hear her comments well because you are speaking very fast (like it is a race) and it goes on top of her comments.

Thanks for the input. Rose is always welcome to speak anytime she wants to, but she’ll never be made to feel pressured to do so.

the instructor who teaches at the local club teaches that everything is hand signals. how do you guys feel about that advise?
@countrydancex
@countrydancex 3 жыл бұрын
Here's the danger ... that literal statement with no context is obviously nonsense. But under what context is that being said, and what exactly is meant by "hand signals"? If by hand signals, they mean leading by physical communication through the places where you are in contact ... then that makes more sense. But, personally, we wouldn't use the word "signal" for anything. There are certainly more accurate words to use. But ... it's true that we don't lead visually or audibly either haha... So, I guess our answer is ultimately a no answer without the context of the statement.

I'd call it "framing". Their arms don't look tense, but they are. He transmits the moves to her through rigid "steering" . She feels it in her shoulder and turns appropriately. Controls the stopping of the turn, too. Kind of like the steering in a fine sportscar, not a family sedan.

Hey, thanks for Text option, cool. So..am I correct. .. Her: forward .. weight left, turn her left Backward...weight left , turn her right So forward is left left Backward is left right Or in other words Her forward .... weight leg and spin to are SAME Her backward ...weight leg and her spin to NOT SAME
@countrydancex
@countrydancex 3 жыл бұрын
That is correct. Another way to look at it is that she needs to be on the foot in the direction of the turn. When facing forward, her left foot is on the left… but when facing backward, her right foot is on the left (in relation to the forward wall)

@@countrydancex so... Given an oval dance hall dancing counter clockwise. We ignore left or right leg , .... SHE turns Left if weight on inside track leg ( Backward or forward ) , she turns Right if leg weight on outside track ? , she turns to the side of the weighted foot nearest the center of the dance oval ?

Thank you Tony... Your comment at about kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4S2c4V4gc9-Z7M is something I've said for the longest time... And Rose thank you for seconding it. In the 5 years when I was doing ballroom lessons I swear dancing in a class setting was easy but when out dancing it was harder. I had to know what I wanted to do. When/how to lead what I was doing. Traffic management with the other dancers around me. Then if she/I wanted to chat up the other, it added a whole other level of difficulty.
