“Ellada” is the modern Greek name for “Hellas”. The root word of “Hellas” is “Hellad-“, hence, the derivation of “Ellada” in modern Greek. In modern Greek though, the initial aspirant “h” has fallen out of use, therefore, you don’t say “Hellas” but “Ellas” or “Ellada”. On another note, why isn’t there an agreement to call all countries by their endonyms and get over the confusion already?!

Japan was called Wa? Wow that explains allot. There is a island in One Piece where a arc is taking place. Its called WANO. And then i thought there must be a connection. And so there was. The thing is. Wano is a pun on the old name of Japan “Wa no Kuni” which means “Country of Harmony”.

As a small child i always thought England. In dutch Engeland, sounds allot like Engel-Land which means Angel 👼 Land. I thought wow thats such a cool name. Now i saw this and i’m dissapointed.
