The term "race" used to be used in biology to describe populations of a species that had distinct characteristics, and a common example given was how the Red Fox, Vulpes vulpes, has sub-populations that are predominantly silver. But even in that biological terminology it never denoted a difference in species---the red and silver foxes are all still Vulpes vulpes. It is only relatively recently that the scientific community quit using that term at all in biology, because of human societal tensions. I am fine with letting it go, because there are other terms used below species level that are much better: subspecies (subsp.), variety (var.), subvariety (subvar.), form (f.), and subform (subf.). Thankfully these have not been coopted in the same way.

racism influenced the RE-WRITING of blackness. In origin, Blackness is not evil. But very mystical. In History, Blackness has a close association with Africans. Aka ETHIOPIANS, who were known for the darkness of their skin. They were seen as divine and Beautiful.

One study found that contemporary Ethiopian genomes contain approximately 50% non-African (Eurasian) genetic component. Another analysis estimated that Ethiopian populations have about 40-50% of their genome tracing back to Eurasian sources. A more recent study found that Ethiopian patients had a median of 43.5% European ancestry, which was surprisingly high and nearly equal to their African ancestry (median 43.0%)

@@stevencarr4002Most Ethiopians & Eritreans. There is not anything surprising about it as the so called Mota Man proves a back to Africa migration from Eurasia around 4,500 years ago. In addition, the later mutual migrations & strong historical & cultural ties especially between Yemen & Aksum. However, this does not make Ethiopians less African nor does it protect them from the incurrence of racism in predominantly white countries of the so called Western hemisphere.

Today is the day at hand. Some slaves could read and count money. When freedom came got jobs and became the landowners. Left something for the following generation. Not EVERY SLAVE WAS BROKEN.
@olzt100
@olzt100 4 ай бұрын
Actually, the roots of slavery is marked in economics. Europeans were not looking to subdue a race or any race but find a people they knew were ignorant of their customs and culture. They tried Natives as slaves first and Natives starved and died of European diseases. Africans had slaves but they came from tribal conquests and African slaves remained slaves a customary for conquered people, without ownership, whips, chains and the same methods used in the US. African slaves could run away and join other tribes. They were not destined to be eternal slaves like chattel slavery made Africans. So slavery was not attached to racism. Racism came after the slaves were freed. Newly freed slaves became competition for European settlers in the work place. Thus, European settlers felt they were superior to those that had been enslaved. And to keep an advantage European settlers made myths about the African descendants, demanded special and better treatment from the US government and got it. The unequal treatment and events of separating Blacks financially, socially and politically after the Emancipation Proclamation are the roots of racism in the US. Slavery was just demonic greed for money and inhuman treatment in making that money. The Africans were devalued as humans for money and not because of race. But race became the primary factor for oppression after slaves were freed.

Race was created around the 1600 by the English to justify the transatlantic slave trade in the Carribbean and America's. The use of Irish slaves and Eastern European slaves and Native American slaves was becoming extremely problematic for a number of reasons, so the British needed to go all in on the African slaves and needed the backing of not only the elite class, but the poor working white man on the street, who was needed to police this brutal act and protect the slave owners land and property. What better way to do this than create race differentiations where one group is superior than the other

@@stacyamanNot true. Racial discrimination was codified by the edict of Toledo, 1449. This paved the way for the “sangre de limpieza” purity of the blood concept which by the time the British empire took over the lead in colonialism was already shaping es into firm antisemitism & Afrophobia. The British & their offshoot which today are white Americans simply optimised & customised this insane form of oppression for their needs

BOTTOM LINE! Before 1865/ US Census 1790-1860 , we were CALLED free person, slave, negro , mulatto or colored. AFTER 1865/ DAWES ROLLS separating red skinned indigenous & black skinned indigenous , we started hearing the word “ black” and “ African American “ in 1980. Negro means a person with dark skinned many shades not black skin before 1865. The definition changed after 1865. TECHNICALLY! I don’t know why we are using the word black or African American. Our ORIGINAL name from white people which we got in 1600s is NEGRO or colored.

The concept of race wasn't created America. Please stop perpetuating the myth that it was. The racial categorizations based on color, that are used in contemporary times date back to at least 1471, long before Trans Atlantic human trafficking. It was the Trans Saharan trade, Portuguese and Spanish incursion into south Saharan Africa, that set the stage for these "racial" hierarchies before there was a United States. Race is a social construct as are many other personal identifiers. Please read more about this. Born in Blackness by Howard French is a good source to begin. Stamped from the Beginning by Ibrahim Kendi is another. Kendi's book was made into a film and it's available for viewing on a major streaming platform.

Thank you! I have no clue why people assume it began in America! Thanks for the book recommendations though Spanish historians have already pinpointed the Edict of Toledo, 1449 as the official codification of racial discrimination.

@@masehoart7569 I rarely respond to notifications but I had to respond to this one! Yes absolutely the Edict of Toledo!! Thank You!!! It was precisely because Africans conquered the Iberian peninsula that Spain became a world power. The issue of race in the US of A most certainly is and has been problematic to say the least but what we can not do is pretend that it is only a problem in the US or that it began in the US.

There is only one race, and that is the human race. Yes, there are different ethnicities and cultures. When I think of colors, I don't think of the essence of a man or woman; I think of categorizing objects like shoes, clothes, and other non-human things.

Baha'u'llah, Prophet-Founder of the Baha'i Faith forbade slavery, adding, that it is not just for one of God's children to own another of His Children. Also we know from the Bible that we must follow the teaching of Christ; Love thy neighbor as thyself. So we must see each other as equals in the eyes of God.

Take a sociology class. Biologists are the first to tell you that race is not used outside of biology as anything scientific but as social and political categorizations and agendas. Sociologically race is not used in the way biology would, which is why biologists avoid the term for more accuracy and categorize subspecies. Biology on society is a social construct in what it is presented as, unscientific and agenda driven. In Biology like taxonomy terms are distinguished from social uses.
