Thanks Kevin, that was another lovely Ferry, a bit better than an old bus to get you to another local town. "Sherman" tourists seem to think that you can drive through them and they are invisible, 'the arrogance of the aged', lol. How cruel of you to blot out the sign at the end I think that you must be a T--t, lol.😁Keep up the great work mate. Take care and all the best. Stevie

Isle of Orkney, at last! Beautiful! There sure were a lot of touristy types. Those old streets between the houses... imagining them with horses and carts. I can't get over how much construction is from stone! What do they call people from Orkney? Orks?... looked it up... Orcadians. There are some odd terms of belonging (birthplace). For example: if one is from Glasgow, they are a Glaswegian. Never would have guessed that. Orcadian folk speak a dialect known as "Norn," a native North Germanic language spoken into the 19th and 20th century. They descend from northern germanic peoples, along with Scandanavians, as well as Picts and Norse. Culturally the Orcadians are very similar to Icelandic peoples, in terms of descent. Superb travel-loge Kevin. Thx!!

It's incredible how far flung ones genes can reach around the globe. There's a very noticeable Nordic connection on the northern isles - Orkney and especially Shetland.

Hi Kevin, I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. The ferry was very impressive and you had a lovely day for your crossing. I thought Stromness was very interesting with its little cobbled streets. Parts of it reminded me of Portree. The tourists also reminded me of Portree. People wandering everywhere! The countryside looked very lush. I was surprised how flat it was. Your talking about the wind reminded me of when Kevin and I were in Shetland. It was in October and there was plenty of wind. Cold too. One day we visited a place called Mavis Grind, a very narrow strip of land with the Atlantic on one side and the North Sea on the other. I really thought I was going to be blown into the sea, the wind was so strong. Wouldn’t have missed it for the world though. Orkney certainly is up there with Lewis and Stornaway as my favourite places so far. ❤️

You lived in an incredible part of the world, Peter. One thing that struck me, and with Shetland, was the nordic connection. Makes sense seeing as Norway isn't a million miles away.

The contrast between locals and tourists on the Scottish and Orcadian ferries always amuses me. Locals straight on with a couple of pillows to kip on the longer trips and an extended cord to power the device of choice from the usually difficult to access sockets.

In 2012, the wife and I went to England where my son was stationed. From there we spent about a month going from his location to various other countries. Watching your videos of this trip has brought back several memories. I'm a quarter Irish, so anything from Ireland is worth a look. Went and did the whisky malt trail in Scotland for 3 days along with other samplings of food and drink. Ireland was to visit the family's old farm. England got roped into a discussion about the president, at the time. (Why do others care, he was useless). Italy, Germany, Belgium and Netherlands. My daughter-in-law was feeling we sere overstaying our welcome after a month. She not my most favorite anyway and we were never there for too long at a time. Heard you grunt moving that bike, need to keep that to yourself. An amazing journey, Kevin. Good on ya !

Hi Brian. I believe they're handed out by the operator of whichever tour they're on - a cruise of the Scottish Isles, or something like that.

Part of the reason it is so flat is due to the action of the glaciers during the last ice age which wore away a lot of the mountains

So as a black pudding connoisseur I'd like to know what the best are. I recently tried Stornaway's one and well it gave off a different smell when cooking it to the normal local/supermarket stuff. The taste I'm still on the fence about, it's more meaty I'd say and less peppery. I'm honestly not sure about it but the one thing it has going for it is it doesn't tend to come back on you with that peppery type indegestion if you know what I mean, I'm still not sure though if I prefer it or not. So I'd like your advice as to what to try next? I'm the guy that loves a black pudding and egg roll in the morning btw and you asked me what sauce and I never replied, well the answer is NO SAUCE ARE YOU MAD? You want to taste the black pudding and that runny yolk and just the butter thats on the roll! Red sauce on a bacon or sausage roll sure or brown sauce on those odd occasions you feel a bit saucy. I bet you wouldn't put sauce on your venison pie now would you! Btw ive not watched this episode yet I'm an episode behind. TY
@CountryHouseGentАй бұрын
Ah you'll have to wait for the final result 😁 Now a fried egg and black pudding roll sounds just the ticket right now - runny yoke of course 🙂

That bad image was and is created by al l of the crotch rocket one wheelers of current day that scare the crap out of all of the law abiding citizens. I get it. Your a safe driver., but there are a high volume of idiot bikers that ride wheelies at 70 mph through traffic scaring the shit out of responsible drivers.
