Having explored the southern portion of the Shetland Isles, it's now time to head north and ride the central, hilly region, travelling through the tiny settlements of Veensgarth, Walls and Sandness.

A new road is being built on Shetland primarily to support the construction and maintenance of the Viking Wind Farm, which requires heavy machinery and large components to be transported to the site; this new road will also facilitate the delivery of equipment for the Shetland HVDC link project, connecting the islands to the mainland electricity grid for the first time, and will eventually be used by the public as a safer and more efficient road after construction is complete.

Hi Kevin thanks again for sharing your life experiences with people . From your first ever video you have produced very interesting and informative video's.? Your road trip videos have brought back to me so many fond memories.. Of my past riding my motorcycle across this country and others.. I was lucky enough to be borne and brought up on the canals. And able to obtain a motorcycle licence I was once asked why I had a motorcycle on the bow of my narrow boat.?? To be honest it was one of the dumbest things I was ever asked I don't think he liked the reply I don't have to walk miles to retrieve a car or van after moving this boat ?? Unlike yourself.? Unfortunately there is a certain element that are hell bent on removing these freedoms. From the people.? So Kevin enjoy these freedoms as long as you can... If ever you get the chance take a motorcycle trip along route 66. There is nothing like this so much to see and do along the way.? Anyway Kevin as always keep yourself safe and well mate.

Hi Kevin, Thoroughly enjoyed the ride with you today. Brought back memories. Kevin and I both took turns having our photo taken at the Twatt sign and did as you did, took a drive down into the settlement. My great grandparents farmed in that area. They immigrated to New Zealand in the late 1800s. We too stopped at the derelict building which at that time was covered in colourful murals. Made a good photograph. There were other of my ancestors who lived and farmed in the area too, possibly at Walls. I was so looking forward to Sandness, when you stopped! Now I’ve got to wait another week! Ah well, something to look forward to.

Driving to the Grand Canyon I found a guy walking away from an rolled car in some boulders. He wasn't hurt, but looked really shook up. We stopped and gave him a ride to a cafe we had just passed. He said something about his wife and kids being in the car and I had a minor heart attack until he explained that they had already walked to the cafe. A half hour later I'm driving in the park, look in my rearview mirror and see a large pine tree blow over and break the windshield of a tour van behind me. No one was hurt.

Such a pretty landscape, while I look forward to seeing you on the boat, I have very much enjoyed the ride through Scotland. Please be kind about building houses, every person needs housing, and Great Britain, like many parts of the world, have a chronic housing shortage, especially affordable homes, those tacky cookie cutter houses are desperately needed by many of your fellow citizens.

The road sign name is Tveit. As a little lad in the 50s, one of our playgrounds was a farm named Tveita or Tveten, east in Olso. At that time a farm with many activities interesting boys and girls. Today one of many municipalities in Oslo. Many surnames here ending with -tveit or -tvedt, same meaning.

@@CountryHouseGent It is very interesting to se the old norse names still in use, even if rewritten due to different pronounciation today. But the basic meaning is still there, and we are using the same names on many places here today as; Hoswick = Husvik (houseinlet), Sandwick = Sandvik (sandinlet), Tw*tt= Tveit (place, stead). You are travelling in vinland, no not wine, but grasland. We see only grasland and no crops here. To harsh conditions for wheat, rye etc but excelent for sheep. The old norse names was Hjaltland(Shetland), Orkneyar (Orkneys), Suðreyjar (Hebrides). Your dream for a fishing boat is very understandable when looking at these beautiful places.

Yeah that construction intrigued me - I assumed it was for the (Viking) windfarm and also a section 106 thang to improve the road, but it's also the end of the new Shetland to Caithness electricity cable (Kergord HVDC Converter Station). I guess the track was for the heavy transformers. I wonder how they generated energy when they were isolated and before wind turbines became popular 🤔 Cluster Twat 😁
