I get the butane stoves and canisters at Asian grocery stores around Dallas/Ft Worth. I got a light at Harbor Freight that works as an emergency battery charger. Love it.

Ppl don’t realize what they need until they need it. Our rural electric could go out if someone sneezes so we always have to be prepared for outages. Good information to prepare others 👍🏼

Great tips about hurricane/winter storm preparedness. Think camping. Shop as if you were going on a camping trip, and you won’t have access to supplies for a while. I like to visit the outdoor sports section at Walmart or Academy, and do it when the weather is beautiful, and no one is thinking about emergency prepping.

I love the emergency radio option. When we had our ice storm in Oregon this year, the cell towers were taken out for a week. Even landlines didn't work. No one could call 911 if they had an emergency

Wow, I didn't know y'all got hit that bad up there this year. I have friends in Portland and they didn't mention it.

Big Berkey are great products. I use one every day as my drinking water and cooking water source. I've filtered down a few gallons of very questionable water from the canal just to test and it handles it very well.

Something you may want to look into are the MPOWERD Luci Outdoor Inflatable Solar Light/Charger. They are especially fun for kids. Great light and will charge your cellular device. We have a lot of mini-Sawyer water filtration devices with the bags too. I'm always telling people that they must have multiple ways to cook. You're correct on the budget...do a Payday Prep and build your inventory.

Cool. I will check those out for the kids. Thanks.

Awesome thank you. How did you decide what land to look for and buy
@CountryLivingExperience3 жыл бұрын
We were looking for raw land for 6 months. I had an off grid house already designed for that situation. Every property we put in an offer on, fell through. 5 properties in a row. We took that as an answer to our prayers as God said no. We then looked for a property that was already set up with fencing, a barn, fruit trees, a well, and an appropriate house. We found that house in less than a week and bought it.

I wonder if there are better alternatives to a Mr. Heater for indoor use. I've been snowed in before where I couldn't get out of the house for a few days. Luckily, the power didn't go out so out heater kept working. But, what if it did go out? How would we keep warm inside without getting carbon monoxide poisoning? There's a lot to think about when it comes to surviving a disaster. Most important though is staying warm in the cold and staying cool when it's hot. Water is easy and cheap to store and food isn't bad either.

Install a wood stove. That is the best way to heat a home in any situation.
