The alpine region of Switzerland get most of the glory, but the pastoral regions of northern Switzerland is quite beautiful as well. Cleanliness is paramount everywhere. At 22:30, a passenger just leaving the train walked over aside and pickup up a small piece of rubbish that was on the tracks.
@bigcasey41433 жыл бұрын
Great video once again...Wish people had the same idea in UK about picking up rubbish....I've seen people just open their car windows and throw rubbish out.... sadly, we live in a throw away society here in UK, and it shows... Spotless in Switzerland

I agree wholeheartedly with the comment of Robert Gambling posted below. Before reading it, I had also noted the beautiful act of civic responsibility at the 22:30 marker where a disembarking passenger walking on the platform goes out of his way, and in a safety conscious manner, to pick a piece of litter on the Track. Such little gestures help to make Switzerland the uniquely beautiful Country that it is, both in terms of natural beauty and collective behaviors. The only serious problem that I have noticed concerns the wide-spread manifestations of graffiti, something that is clearly the result of the destructive actions of a few mentally sick individuals.. A beautiful rural trip, thank you. You take me to bits of your country I'd never seen. Three questions: 1. What was the average speed of that train? 2. Where was the long double-deck train, crossed en route, headed? 3. What was the train with carriages without windows, just before Winterthur?
@RailwayEmotions4 жыл бұрын
1. The maximum speed on the trip was 110km/h. 2. The double decker in Seuzach goes to Aarau. 3. I see no train without windows

It was a bit incongruous when stopped at Seuzach and a monster 12 car double deck train pulls up by the side of 'small' 2 or 3 car with motor section Thurbo. But the platform length should have been a clue. Nice video. I think there are only a couple of routes left in this region unpublished? Schaffhausen to Romanshorn. via Kreuzlingen?

Beautiful as always. I have a few questions out of curiosity, if you don't mind. At Seuzach, the EMU that terminates besides you, seems to change the pantograph for the return journey? Is this a standard practice for EMUs? While approaching Winterthur, on the line that comes from St. Gallen, Chur, etc, there seem to be 2 trains stuck behind each other waiting for clearance into Winterthur. I have rarely seen this happen in Switzerland. Was there any issue as such or just some minor delays? Lastly, I am not sure but as you entered the platform at Winterthur, was there another train on your track itself that drove away as you were entering? I can see a glimpse of another train ahead but not sure on which track it was. Thanks a lot though for keeping us entertained with these fabulous Swiss cab rides!
@ISymounI4 жыл бұрын
regarding the other train at the platform, that is planned in this situation. Both of these trains will be shunted in this direction, so instead of waiting for complete track clearance, which would take up a long time, they are permitted on the same track. if you look closely at the signal @ 36:37, you'll note the orange bar below, which indicates an occupation of the track ahead. The two trains stuck behind each other are waiting for another train to exit Winterthur, which may have been delayed or is scheduled to wait for connecting trains. Regarding the pantograph, that's just how this particular EMU works.
@RailwayEmotions4 жыл бұрын
Depends on the vehicle, for the RABe 511 and for some others it is normal to change pantographs with the direction of travel. "Stuck" trains could wait for only a few seconds for a free track or similar, always depends. Not really a problem. And yes, the track was occupied when we entered, as announced by the horizontal row of lights on the last home signal just before Winterthur.

@@RailwayEmotions One of my favourite RE films was that of your journey from Linthal to Ziegelbruecke in blinding snow this winter and then onto Zurich hbf. I live in England but my swiss relatives lived all their lives in Glarnerland, namely Schwanden, Sool and Mitloedi. I know it intimately. I remember when the Sernftalbahn departed to Elm from Schwanden. I remember the goods shed at Schwanden where we used to play amongst the milk churns. I remember the Ae4/7s that whistled as they came up the valley; the clanging of the bells announcing arrival and departure. I have track plans for all the stations between Linthal and Glarus. I also have a positioning table for drivers on that stretch for 1926. A real shame when the new platforms were built and underpasses made instead of cross track walkways which were removed The Glarner Sprinter is no more and the line looks a mere shadow of its former self. Ennenda used to be a lovely station. Its now just a kiosk. What a difference 50 years makes.
@RailwayEmotions4 жыл бұрын
That is true. A lot has changed, not only there, but all over Switzerland. On the other side, underpasses are much safer, barries are safer than just whistling before a level crossing and so on. The Glarner Sprinter is gone, but the S25 is its replacement and actually offers a better service with a more regular interval, hourly instead of just two-hourly.

@@RailwayEmotions compared to our network in the UK the sbb is a dream. We have at most 4 or 5 main lines. Our branch lines were disbanded in 1968 after a report by Beeching who wasn't even a railway man. I have a couple of questions of you. 1. Why are cargo cars so full of graffiti?? 2. How is it that Basel Rbhf and others are so huge!! The one at Muttenz goes on forever!
@petercallomon96814 жыл бұрын
One of the major differences between european networks and the British one is that the system is subsidised by government irrespective of loss, which the SBB has recorded year in year out. Had it been run on profitability lines the swiss network would be a lot smaller than it is now. May that never happen. Railways are essential to commerce not just a shareholders return on investment.
