Mia is beautiful. My suggestion is putting the weeds on the burn pile if they have weed seeds. Otherwise when compost is spread the seeds will spread too. I love how you two prepare the garden together. It's a lot of work.

I have never used weed fabric in our garden beds. We have raised beds and all the walkways are heavy layers of cardboard topped with 6 inches of wood chips. Haven't had any weeds in the walkways other than maybe a small sprout from the whole grain we feed the chickens. We let the chickens into our garden beds all fall and winter to churn everything over for us and add more compost to the beds as needed. In the fall and winter we drop layers of leaves on the garden beds and the chickens do all the work of breaking it down for us.

So sad about the one little duckling, At 1:00 you can see the tiny yellow duckling was most likely the last to hatch and probably not strong enough to recover from the Great First Swim. Its not the water, its the snapping turtles! They grab the ducklings’ feet and pull them under. Because we cant hear each other when the tractor is running, we use sign language(hand motions) to tell each other what to do with the bucket. Mimic the motions you want the driver to make. Works like a charm!

Steel star pickets are easier to remove when you give it a good hammer whack down, It dislodges the soil adherence and you can pull them up. Maybe the same principle could apply to those weed blanket staples.

I hope you don't have snapping turtles in your pond. Snapping turtles can wreak havoc with your baby ducks. My suggestion is to kill every snapping turtle you can. 12 gauge works well. You can also catch them with heavy trot lines. Use heavy wire leaders and treble hooks. Any type of meat works well as bait. Get rid of the snapping turtles and you will have a much better survival rate with your baby ducks.
@spacehonky6315

Bet you've got a snapping turtle in the pond. IMHO, it's a more likely explanation for missing ducks than a bass.

Hey Rebekah, great job on the tractor. Things will become smoother the more time you spend on the TYM. It will all become second nature. You mentioned that your hatchlings went from 4 to 3 in bill-count. A pond your size must have many Snapping Turtles in there. I am pretty sure that the momma duck probably fed at least a turtle or maybe another critter-getter but I would like to see all of the little ones grow up to be bigger full size quackers. We all know Mother Nature has a way of balancing out some animals headcount. Anyway love the videos, maybe the tiller, if not too big for the smaller TYM, can be used by your better half. Take care

That's the problem with baby ducks, once they do move into the water the predators increase by a factor of 2-3, all kinds of big fish will take baby ducks but the real danger comes from a variety of Turtles, in areas of high duck populations Snapping Turtles will feed on nothing else.

Evan, you mentioned you were going to lay down new fabric. If you didn't buy it yet, I'd recommend you get the extra wide typar road underlayment which you can get up to 17 feet wide. I used this in my garden and it works great with fewer seams for weeds to sprout through. Much easier to overlap and pin to the ground. Good luck.

It is way too easy to injure the bones of your feet doing farm/yard work in flip flops. this is especially true when you are pushing or pulling as the flip flops could easily fail and you would fall hard and wrong. Can anyone tell me what the benefit is to having a raised bed? Everybody I know who has one can't answer that. Is it just an aesthetic thing to look nice or does it actually have a practical beneficial application? Seems like to me it just gets in the way of a tractor and just causes extra unnecessary maintenance
