When I was in high school I would go to my grandparents small farm in south east Missouri. I would go in July for a month and run the roads around their farm to train for football and then help my grand father with farm chores. When one of his implements would break he would make parts to fix his equipment to save money. I miss that little farm, I am 72 years old now and miss my time at that the farm. Thanks for your videos...it takes me back to a simpler time in my life. Thank you Evan for the memories.

You certainly get a lot done in a day, Evan. I know it may not seem so a lot of the time, but you really do. There are always glitches, such as equipment not placed where you want, but that’s just life. That hay looks great!

You have really come into your own since you “retired” from your day job. Seems to me that you are who you wanted to be in the environment you wanted to be in with your lovely wife and dare I say “sidekick”. Although, I am not truly sure who the side kick is. Either way, you have settled in to your new role beautifully and it tickles me greatly to see you happy in that, no matter what happens in your day. God bless you both as you go along each day. I cannot wait to see how you solve the problem of getting those Jersey cows pregnant. Once you do a WHOLE NEW chapter unfolds! Here for the journey, from this side of the camera, it’s a great Country view from here, thank you! P.S. nothings perfect…but you do do excellent work and fabrication is probably your secret power.

Better get some old rolls of carpet or big pieces of cardboard to lay on the ground for crawling under your equipment. Thanks for sharing your new "JOB" with us!!!

its always nice when you can make your own fabrication to the equipment on the farm and I think that your weed sprayer being wrapped up in vines and weeds is the very definition of irony and its like the vines and weeds trying to defend from spaying them again I just got a big roll landscape fabric given to me the other day when I was getting some scrap metal and they said to go ahead and take it and I just so happen to have a project coming up to use it on re-rocking the path to the pavilion and my church I prepped the spot this last weekend and I'm hauling the rock next weekend

Nice job on the deflectors on the Hesston PT10. The PT10 is a pretty good old cutter, like all haybines the keys to keep it maintained is to change out the rock guards and sections along with the reel teeth, as needed. We had one for a while back in the 70's, which we did custom hay and put a lot of hours on ours. Thanks for sharing, I hope you have a good week!

You can also drill out 2 ovular shaped holes on the tail of the haybine and on the defector. (Right where you had the vice grip clamps) And you can bolt them in place and having the ovular holes will make it so they line up where ever you want the deflectors to be. My New Holland has it set up like that and it works amazing.

Having the wings open wide helps drying a lot , full , tall , wind rows take a lot longer to dry, but are great to use a round baler on .

@GaryHagerman-n8l2 ай бұрын
I was gonna say that back in the day, when hay bines first came out, They all had that option of windrowing or not. We used to windrow all the time and used the tip of the hay rake to roll it over the next day before baleing.
@edwardlittle7762 ай бұрын
Something you should consider, When you paint the inside out the forming shut, the hay will bind up on the fresh paint until it wear it off and start forming the narrower windrows. This comes from many years of Agricultural field service. Sounds strange, but paint them and see for yourself.

If you have a week of dry weather, I don't see the point. And by looking better I think he means by loss of leaves(if there is any leaves in that grass)😅. It also is less field time.

I love that trick of bending the metal! Love it! I was surprised that you didn't re-weld those slots. It's not really a strength issue since you have 12" of material left in the bend. I'm concerned about having those gaps clogging and rusting out over time. It's probably nothing just wondering outside the box. :)

@paulsackett34852 ай бұрын
Evan, most of the weeds I saw in your lay down yard are mares tail which is a noxious weed. Neither Roundup or 2-4-D will kill it. It has to be removed mechanically when it’s that big. I would get it down now before it goes to seed or you will have it every year. It’s nasty stuff. And someone as else mentioned, use that Tedder the day after you mow and it will help tremendously with the drying especially on your newer field which is heavy and looks great. Great job on fabricating the deflector shields. Well done. That old equipment will work forever with some maintenance.
@jakeschisler75252 ай бұрын
My dad's old neighbor had a cheap wire fence on the property line and he thought it was a good idea to spray his fence with silver paint. We'll that didn't go well with my dad because the neighbor not only painted his fence but my dad's car and the side of his garage. After that they never talked again. Then a few years later he put up the most ugliest wooden 8 foot fence anyone had ever seen. My old neighbor in Florida would argue about anything and that he always bought Echo outdoor equipment. So I made sure to buy Stihl. The thing that really made us not talk to him was we had grown some bushes by the fence but not too close and he decides on a windy day to spray vegation killer along his fence and he killed my wife's plants. I don't really have any neighbors close enough to us, which is fine with us.

Evan, great job on the fabrication. For the implements, it seems like you could build, or buy a vertical shelving system out there that you could stack and free up some landscape for your implements. It seems a lot of your implements are small enough to stack. Another good video and thanks for sharing.

If you not sure the hay is drying fast enough you may in the future get a Tedder rake it would add another step in getting it up but it may dry the hay faster so you can go ahead and get it bailed.
