Great reaction! Band-Maid's founder, rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Miku Kobato always gives a master class in how to write complex multilayered Japanese/English lyrics that perfectly fit the song. Miku's skillful writing seamlessly blends with Kanami's amazing guitar riffs, Akane's elite drumming skills, Misa's near-legendary Bass and Saiki's powerful and nuanced vocals to form songs which are encouraging, meaningful and uplifting. The theme in Shambles of acknowledging and striving to overcome one's life difficulties " like a fierce tiger" and promotes a message of being focused on one's goals and striving to make them a reality. Shambles is a great song from a truly great band that consistently produces outstandingly inspiring music. Cheers.

This was one of their anime theme commissions. It's for the season two closer for the Netflix anime, Kengan Ashura. . It's about companies holding Matches for the best contracts. So when she says, Make Shambles, she's saying make a shambles of your opponent, wreck them! Watch the LIVE version, they have the anime playing on a screen in the background. You would probably like 'Manners' as well. It's message line is "Let you life burn bright until you've painted a miracle", so very positive. There's an OMV, but it's usually paired LIVE-To-Tape with 'Black Hole'.

Holiday congrats on what you've accomplished so far! Shambles was a commission for a Netflix anime called Kengan Ashura, an intense, violent fight anime, with some social and emotional overtones. Miku (rhythm guitar & vocal backup) read the original manga and wrote the lyrics to fit the theme, but made them so they apply to life in general.

My take on tbe use of Shambles in this song is to destroy the old you, the old ways, the old bad habits and to re-emerge stronger, keener and yearning to be a better version of yourself. Make Shambles!

"Make shambles" ... do your best, leave everything in chaos (wreak havoc). Well, that is the way I take it :). Great song, thanks for the reaction!

Yes this. Especially after the line about burning the ropes that bind you and hold you back. "Make shambles." Destroy everything that prevents you from moving forward and succeeding.

Sai (最) and Kyo (強) make Saikyo (最強), or “strongest.” (Go back and listen to how SAIKI pronounces “kyo.”) To me “make shambles,” means to “break things/bust things up,” which makes sense in that Shambles is an ending theme for a fighting anime. But I like your interpretation of how that extends to an exhortation to change things and leave a mark while we are here.

Just for some context, this is a riff on “Sai and Kou”, which was just something Miku said kind of by accident, after Saiki said “saikou” (the best) and then Saiki made fun of her for it, pretending that it was popular slang in Japan, during some MC time during one of their concerts. Their lyrics are full of stuff like this, which makes them kind of inscrutable even for native Japanese speakers. I generally recommend not trying to understand them until you’re prepared to do a really deep dive. The subtitles will always fail you.

Band-Maid do have a lot of songs with inspirational lyrics. If you learn about their perseverance through their early years while trying to gain a following, trying to get their self-written songs accepted by their management company, Miku learning guitar from square one, and their never-ending hard work towards being better and better, then you will know what true inspiration is!!!!!

Used as a closing theme for the third series of an anime shown on Netflix. Roughly about huge corporations putting up fighters to fight each other so corporations and fighters can gain power and money. So the whole set up is pretty shambolic. But even without the anime connection the lyrics as usual are well with looking at. The band have had to face set backs and adversity at times so Miku who wrote these lyrics likes inspiring lyrics.

2:35 - The word "Shambles" means "destruction" or "left in pieces" so this song's context means be ruthless and push yourself to the point where your efforts lead to success, thus leaving everything else behind you n shambles.

Look up what the "Path of Shura" means, and suddenly, the words "Make Shambles" would make perfect sense. This is, after all, the end theme for the anime "Kengan Asura". Look it up mon!

Cool. So it's a song for an anime but it definitely has a broader meaning. Miku worked her ass off to get where she is and she's still doing it. So her lyrics are about breaking free from the social/cultural expectations that hold you back (making a shambles of them in this case) and finding what has real meaning for you. All the girls had a similar experience. They've walked a knife edge defying convention with failure on both sides. They still do. As great as they are and with the great fans they've attracted, they are always an injury or disagreement away from obscurity and a collapse back into the gravitation pull of cultural expectation. Till now, at least, girls can't become old rockers that still pull crowds and new fans. Let's remember that and support Band Maid for decades to come.

You have plenty of answers for what "shambles" means and how the song came about. It's interesting reading lyrics in a foreign language and trying to make sense of them. You gave an example; you said "The world is your oyster" which makes sense to all the English speakers but how would you explain that to a Japanese speaker and not have them scratching their heads trying to figure out what you mean. "Uh, you live at the bottom of the ocean? You actually live *_in_* an oyster? It doesn't make sense." Speaking of, you should watch their anime opening called *"Sense"*

A shamble: A place of carnage/slaughterhouse, and this song is the ending theme of a pretty brutal fighting anime called "Kengan Ashura" so there you go. 😀
