This is also one of Freddie's most depressing songs, Freddie wrote the song before he even joined Queen. The story within the song is about constantly being rejected by society. The song begins with him confessing his sins to a priest, he tries to belong to the church but he is rejected. Next he seeks acceptance from his family, "Mama, I am gonna be your slave", but he is rejected by his family as well. He ends up calling everyone a "liar". In the end he finally realizes "they bring you down before you begin, you have to be dead, before they let you in...". It is a song about rejection and acceptance.

It is so cool seeing Freddie and John singing together into Freddie's microphone for a while there, one of the rare times I can recall seeing video of John singing during a live Queen performance! I am not sure if there is a live performance video of their song "She Makes Me" but whether there is or not it is one song you must not miss during your reactions to this band! Love your channel - keep up the great work with your reactions!!

There are some songs that each band mate gets the chance to soar in a spotlight moment. THIS is one of those. While we expect that with Brian, Roger and John are usually more "punctuated" moments. I agree that John's moment is particularly striking - both singing and bass focus. Freddie was his mentor/big brother and you cannot miss their musical connection on joint efforts - very much on the same wave lenght.

The Rainbow was "the place to be performing" in London back in the 70's and when Queen got the gig, they thought it was the absolute peak of fame. Little did they all know.... I love this song and all the changes it goes through. Great early Queen in my opinion. The marks on the stage are to let the performers know where they are in relationship to the edge of the stage and also to Center Stage, Stage Right and Stage Left. Sometimes with all the lights, it is difficult to figure out where you are and difficult to impossible to see the audience and know where the edge of the stage is.

Some people don't know much about early Queen, they listen to the later stuff. John was very shy and didn't like the spotlight so he kinda stayed in the background. Great reaction

Great reaction! I knew you would like this one, this is one where the bass shines. You should check out the studio version of The Millionaire Waltz, that is another song where the bass really shines. Another song that is similar to this, more heavy rack, Father To Son or Son & Daughter live from Rainbow 1974. Of course not everyone likes the more heavier rock, personally I love it. The short version was the single version, Queen's record company in the US, edited the song and released at a single. Of course it did not work, you need the whole song, and Queen virtually unknown at the time, it is from debut album, a really awesome album, very heavy, they did progressive rock and metal. Perhaps an early more slower song that Celca might enjoy is Doing Alight or My Fairy King.

Just a flawless performance. The Xs on stage mark their spots. Especially used for spot lights. In one of my favorite Deacon interviews he addresses how he “can’t sing” and therefore would never do a solo project. The interviewer then asked if he would join another band if Queen split up, and he answered simply “no”

I saw that 9.4 mil on the official video too. It came up in the column on the right but I thought it should be more so I clicked on it to play it and it came up as 16.4 million. Weird, huh? I've never seen that happen before.

John should have sung more, it's a shame we don't have his voice in the official songs and it's very rare to find him singing in a concert. There are rumors he sang in a Queen song called "Batteries Not Included", but nobody knows the truth.

When you said you were reacting to the long version, I said "Oh GOOD, because this will have Brian's long guitar solo!".... which I knew you'd like. Since this was being professionally filmed, maybe the "X's" on the stage were where the camera operators wanted Freddie to stay between (when he wasn't sitting at the piano) so that he was always on camera? It's great that - as a couple - you can express your different tastes, you know. I'm the same in-that I don't "love" as much a lot of Queen's 1970s progressive rock, while there are Queen fans who prefer it... It's just a matter of personal preference.😉 (My husband and I don't like almost ANY of the same music... we're total opposites!)😵‍💫

The X marks could be for camera spots - but it was also common practice for stationary spotlight marks set by the venue’s light crew. (Xs on spotlight marks is used in theater productions as well)

The X on the stage is a safe place for each member to stand when the pyrotechnics fire 🔥 off , plus it give them symmetry for photos and the fans POV , but the X is mostly for safety .

So funny. When Brian May's wailing guitar part kicked in so hard and so well fitted he was impressed...and he glanced over at her and it went right by her. It's an almost predictable reaction. Men love guitar solos. Not many women love it the same. His look of being blown away came exactly at the point I was blown away and he looked over at her exactly at the point I would have looked at my wife. And her reaction was exactly the same as my wife would have been. Hilarious !!!

I’m with you, Celca….well, sort of….this is not my favorite Queen song. But I do love it, and the only reason I love this song is cuz Queen is performing it. Otherwise, I would have no interest in hearing it. But I love Queen and can appreciate the talent and artistry of each band member even when they are doing songs which aren’t my favorite, and this song showcases how great each band member is. As for John Deacon singing….I read somewhere that after hearing John singing during a Queen concert early on, the other three decided that John’s voice mic would be turned off in future concerts. Assuming that’s true, if John had a good singing voice, it just wasn’t the right voice for Queen. Apparently, also according to what I read, John was ok with not singing; he preferred to concentrate on playing the bass, handing lots of electronic aspects of their music, and occasionally writing songs. Anyway, great reaction! Thank you!
