Rick Allen lost his arm in a horrific car accident when he was 21. He joined Def Leppard at 15. They DEFINITELY weren't gonna abandon their friend, even though so many people were telling them to get a new drummer. They stayed by his side as he healed and re-taught himself how to play. He has a special kit in which his left foot pedal can emulate what his left arm could do. He still has PTSD from the accident to this day, and finds drumming and painting therapeutic. He has opened charities for wounded veterans and people who have had amputations.

I believe the drummer lost his arm in an auto accident. Pretty amazing he could keep doing it with one arm
@andreadeamon64193 жыл бұрын
Thankfully the accident happened on a nurse's lawn cause she took care of him and put the arm on ice. They reattached it but it got gangrene and had to be removed again. He then came up with the idea to use his feet and the rest is history

I saw them in concert on the Hysteria tour in '86 '87 or '88 whenever the album came out. (I forget, lotta brain cells been killed over the yrs) I believe his name is Rick Allen & he was fuckin amazing. They had the best stage show I've ever seen. They played in the middle of the main floor at Cobo Hall or Cobo Arena i forget. It was a revolving stage & it was unfuckinbelievable.

Love the vibe between you 2, full of fun. The band waited 2 years for the drummer to learn How to play with 1 arm after an accedent caused his arm to be amputated. They refused to perform without him. I've worked for them (I'm a roadie) drummer actually has more than 2 foot peddles,I remember setting 4-5 up for him but mostly it's just 2 used 90% of the time

Def Leppard is one of my favorite bands ever. Their Hysteria album (where this song comes from) almost never made it out. Rick Allen, the drummer, had a car accident and lost an arm. Also, their guitarrist (and IMO heart and soul) passed away due to alcohol abuse. Despite all tragedies they've been around, they managed to deliver, as their producer Mutt Lange had asked, "a new Trhiller", which was an absolute success. This band is all about overcoming things most of us would never even dare. And that's whu I love them so much.

Rick the drummer lost his arm in an auto accident, I it was New Years Eve 1984. Def Leppard put off making Hysteria until he was able to join the band again. Specifically, Cobb, Douglas, and Paulding. Trust me, up HERE? Bars don't see color, they see new customers! If y'all have a liking to singing, Friday nights, right here in downtown Smyrna, at the OLDEST bar in Smyrna(my moms went when I was a teen-and younger), the Timbers is the place for Friday karaoke! You might hear anything from David Allen Coe, to P'Funk and the Ohio Players. And honestly? Y'all will be treated better than ME! We have history.

Hey T., this is a band you should definitley do a deep dive into. This one does not represent the band well. Their early stuff (aka "10 Arm Def Leppard") was a lot more oldschool "metal"... and there are Tracks like "Rocket" and "Gods of War" that are off the same album as "Sugar" (aka 9 Arm Def Leppard) but are soooooo much more interesting. Other songs to check out.. Die Hard the Hunter, Rock Brigade, Wasted, Hello America, Stage Fright, Bringin on the Heartbreak.
