I'm super late but essentially, a pact is some sort of a technique that boost a user's ability in exchange for something. The most common pact is letting your enemies know about what your ability is, giving up the secrecy, but in turn giving it more power. That's why they explain their abilities out loud all the time.

Gojo is ability to control the space between things. So he always has a barrier active around him so that if you try to attack him you can never hit him because the space between you and him becomes infinite. He can also teleport/pull things to him by decreasing the space between himself and the place/object to zero. Nanami has a binding vow with himself. The binding vow limits his power to say like 80% through the day. At the end of the day when he goes into "overtime" his power level increases to 120%. The numbers are made up but it's just to show how it works. He intentionally limits himself through normal working hours to make himself overpowered after hours.

I'm glad someone else noticed that Itadori's punch was like the one in Rurouni Kenshin!!! Also yeah, Itadori is the main character and don't worry if you didn't notice it, Gege Akutami, the creator of this manga/anime, also forgot about him one or twice 😅😅 Also I think they mentioned later on the first season but, the author did something really cool to give us explanations of the characters' powers but without being like other Shonen anime where the explanation doesn't affect the battle, well Gege wrote it so when you explain your technique, it became stronger so your opponent knows what you do but you are stronger. Also Gege is a Shonen geek so you can see a mix of other anime/manga in there, like Rurouni Kenshin, Hunter x Hunter, Yu Yu Hakusho, Naruto, Bleach, Dragon Ball, it's very interesting.

Mahito (Stitch-Face) is the Curse of Humans (The fear and anger humans have towards other humans manifested into physical form). That's why he looks more human than any other Curses and why his power is about manipulating Humans and his own Flesh. Jogo (Volcano-Head) is the Curse of Volcanos, typically would be a weak monster but Tokyo lives on top of a Volcano... so all of Tokyo fuels him which is the location of the show. Hanami (Plant-Girl?Guy?) is the Curse of Nature, obviously. Probably the easiest to recognize and understand why its so powerful. Geto isn't a Cursed spirit. He's actually a Sorcerer. But saying anything else about him would be a spoiler, as there's a lot going on there. Which can be seen in Season 2. There's a 4th Cursed Spirit that creates their Beach Vacation (fear of the ocean).

@anusaukko6792 Volcanos are just used as a generalization as it's the majority of the fear. He does also embody the idea of fire natural disasters. Not fire itself. And yeah, living on top of a volcano gives a bunch of subconscious fear of that volcano exploding, and the fear to make Jogo only ever needed to be subconscious. Jogo is capable of that level of destruction for a number of reasons. Jogo is actually pretty weak. In Season 1, the cursed spirits made fun of Jogo for his weak durability, and Jogo just remarks, "I just wouldn't let it hit me." He's basically a glass Cannon who had most of his cursed energy poured into his firepower rather than his physical body. He is the oldest cursed spirit alive and present. He's been around for ages and yet still considered Mahito their leader because he felt Mahito was the strongest of them all. Age does seem to strengthen a curse. So overall, he's highly destructive because Volanoes are a bigger deal in people's minds than you seem to think. His cursed energy was poured into his destructive capability and nothing else. He's not as strong as you seem to think he is as he considered many above him. He was the oldest cursed spirit with learned techniques and growing cursed energy. But most importantly, Sukuna could've ended the fight early, he was playing with Jogo to help egg on the destruction.

One of the most overlooked aspects of Junpei's arc is that the reason he doesn't want his mom to smoke in front of him is not really because he is worried about her health, well maybe so but to a lesser extent. The main reason is that he got a cigarette butt shoved into his other eye by the bullies which he keeps covered with his hair. This totally changes the context of the mother's reply "I promised to not smoke in front of you."

There is an old hebrew saying: "God knows everything, he is all powerfull and he is everywhere. What does he lack? -> Limitation" Humans could never be as much as god, but god could never be as little as humans (then the new testament came along, but that is beside the point). It serves as a great meditation on the nature of transcendence and immanence and also explains a lot about Gojo. Gojo's power is related to infinity and limitlessnes and we have seen him travel ridiculous distances in an instant. That means he is near omnipotent and omipresent with his blindfold still on. I'm not going to tell you what the powers of his eyes are, but the show so far implies that it makes him more divine than human, so we can already guess that it is related to near omniscience. It's no wonder then, that he puts on a limiter for normal day interaction, to be able to walk among regular humans as one of them. If you want to know what omniscience in every interaction does to a person, look at Heimdall from God of War Raganrok. That's probably how Gojo without a constant blindfold would be (and maybe was... I sense a dark past). Gojo is Saitama as a tragic instead of comedic caracter, which doesn't mean that he is not absolutely hillarious.

A key point about why some people seem to not see cursed spirits or energy is that the vast majority of normal people can't. Even if we, the viewers can, normal people don't. Junpei saw Mahito in and leaving the theater, and kind of coincidentally landed in their lap as Mahito was testing himself out. The incidents drew the attention of the Jujutsu "society", and drew Itadori into the picture, building to their coincidental meeting and bonding.

i know this might be a little late, but about the hair comment at the beginning, the show is more realistic so there are extremely few characters who feign odd hair colors, and even then it's a natural tone of that color. (ex. blue that looks white) It's even said in the jjk light novel that Itadori dyes his hair.

I want to throw in something about bullying in asian countries: I think South Korea is the worst of them all, but in general, asian countries treat "minors" pretty loosely, when it comes to legal issues. Like, you are basically untouchable, which is the worst in SK, I'm not exactly sure about Japan here, but I think it's very similar. Due to the extreme pressure put on especially young people, it's very easy to get left behind and quit trying in the first place. The other end of the spectrum is people with influential or rich parents (which equals the same, mostly, but it's also about the people your parents may know). In a country were your standing in society is held in very high regard, nobody wants to get involved in trouble with people that could cost you everything, that's why teachers often do nothing. Bullies are oftentimes either teenagers who have already given up on fitting in and were given up by society in return or have that kind of influence through their parents, so nobody dares touching them. It's mostly a dog-eat-dog kind of situation, way worse than what we know here in the western world, because as I said, there's more "reasons" for people to look the other way. Like, when a teacher reprimands a student with important parents, they might be the ones to get sacked. Or having certain situations even happen in your school - you don't want that to stain your reputation as a teacher or a school, so you just pretend there's nothing. Parents are often like that, too. So basically, it's like how your high school determines if you have any chance of getting into a good university - and what high school you get into is determined by how much money you got, because the tuition fee is through the roof in better schools. To go there with no money, you would need scholarship and that can be taken away from you, if you don't literally ace everything and anything. That's a kind of toiling that not just anyone can do. Yet there's still many who do, because that's the only place on earth, where normal middle class people working in offices, just dropping dead on their desk because of overwork, isn't something out of the ordinary at all. Going to school during an age where it's normal to experiment and find yourself in a country where most schools don't even allow earrings, because they are piercings, is a lot of pressure - to be a certain way and to present yourself in a specific manner. And the kind of freedom mentioned above paired with that kind of pressure, because those countries are driven by merit to an extreme degree, equals to a lot of youngsters with a need to release steam and no consequences whatsoever. I mentioned SK especially, eventhough this is set in Japan, because I know for a fact there's been really crazy cases even in recent years - cases that actually managed to be known by the public, I mean. Like attempted rape, rape or even murder and the culprit got away with what essentially was a slap on the wrist. So, yeah, this isn't weird at all. Terms like "Bread Shuttle" aren't used in so many Webtoons (mostly Korean) and Manga (Japanese) because they all just copy each other, but that's an actual term used in asian countries to refer to a specific kind of bullying (and yes, I say it like that because it also means China - they are all like this). Bread Shuttle is mostly used in Korea, because that's where the term originated, but we see that type of bullying in Japan as well, so I'm counting that. As someone who was bullied as well, knowing they have literal terms for certain specific types of bullying just makes me sick.

so the reason why they’re always explaining what their techniques are is both a play on the trope of these battle animes where characters always do that, and a legitimate thing within the JJK universe. if you understand what someone’s technique is you know what specifically to fear about it, and that fear/negative energy increases the effectiveness of that technique. the author of JJK grew up on classic shounen series like naruto, bleach, one piece etc, and it’s really amazing to see what he’s taken from those & how he subverts a lot of the same tropes to make a really refreshing series! JJK of course can be enjoyed on its own, but i do think having a background knowledge of shounen anime tropes helps elevate the enjoyment of it.

This time you were right but sometimes in anime main characters or those we assumed as one will gone just like that. Junpei for example, he even shown in intro as if he would be one of the mains. Besides it would be so much better reaction when you see a beloved character you thought was dead suddenly back to life. Edit : Also originally Itadori was supposed to be dead permanently because as the writer already confirmed Megumi was the original protagonist. So you just lucky he changed it.

Just wanted to say (if you see this, 5 months after putting up this vid), the pact thing is a trope that really came to form in the manga/anime Hunter X Hunter (especially explained in the York New City arc, around episodes 45-70 in the 2011 anime adaptation -- the better of the two anime adaptations). There’s something bugging me for some theme now. If they can imbue weapons with cursed energy, why tf would they only do that with hammers, blades, etc… but not with a howitzer? It would solve so many problem with these curses.
