This is the final song of a story they were telling! The three songs to this story are HANN (Alone) -> HANN (Alone in winter) -> HWAA The story is about the phases of going through a breakup and all the emotions associated with it: the bitter resentment of the other person (HANN(Alone)) to the realization that the individual is now alone and feels like it was all a waste. They feel like they’re in an endless cold winter (HANN(Alone in winter)) and they express their mourning of the relationship. Eventually they are able to pick themselves back up and melt away the cold/snow with their own fire and their spring finally comes, and their flowers begin to bloom (HWAA). Edit: also to add- the imagery all comes together in the HWAA music video. The scenery and their outfits reflect the three distinct motifs in this story i.e. winter and the white outfits, spring and the floral outfits, and fire and the red outfits :)

Hwaa is definitely one of my all-time favorite (G)I-dle songs and MVs. I think you two will be even more blown away by "Lion". 2:39 yes, this is Soojin, the member who recently left. That is such a sad story. So many people will never forgive Cube for how they treated Soojin. 6:32 that is Shuhua. She is the Taiwanese member. Shuhua had trouble learning Korean in the beginning, so she had very few lines for most of their early songs, but she has really blossomed during the Tomboy and especially the Nxde eras.

Yes, Soojin was the one who was forced out of the group due to false bullying allegations. She has a mole (beauty mark) under her left eye, so she's fairly easy to identify that way. And, if you look at the animated character in "Nude", there is a mole under the eye there. Leading everyone to believe it's a tribute to Soojin, which I agree with.

Beware the essay! :D This is a trilogy that started with Hann in 2018 that you watched before, continues with another song ALSO called Hann that is on the same album as Hwaa (I Burn; though this newer Hann sadly does not have an MV), and flows into Hwaa. The thing you need to know about is what "han" is first: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Han_(cultural) "Han is frequently translated as sorrow, spite, rancor, regret, resentment or grief, among many other attempts to explain a concept that has no English equivalent." But the same pronunciation also has other meanings as well. The 2018 Hann is originally named 한(一), where the Chinese character in parentheses gives the intended alternate meaning: "one". The song sings about getting over an ex who hurt you: "I erase your trace in my bruised heart", and the MV styling is a desert. This is why the English translation is "Hann (Alone)". The second Hann, on this album, is titled 한(寒); here, the Chinese character says "cold" (with the English translation "Hann (Alone in Winter)". The lyrics there are about feeling as if your heart is frozen, realising that you were lying to yourself about erasing the ex from the memory, knowing that you still think of them every single day, and you wonder if the winter in your heart will ever turn to spring. Here's where Hwaa comes in, with its multiple meanings, again explicitly stated in Chinese characters: 화(火花). Both characters are pronounced "hwa" in Korean. The first means "fire", but is also used metaphorically for "anger" ("I am angry" is literally translated as "fire is coming out"). The second is "flower". The combination of the two characters ("fire flower") means "spark" in Chinese and Japanese (pronounced "huǒhuā" and "hibana", respectively), though it is not used in Korean (but if you replace the Chinese characters with native korean words, you get 불꽃 "bulkkot", a word for "fireworks", which was Soyeon's hope for this song's impact - this meaning is present in Japanese and Chinese as well, but the characters are reversed: 花火 "hanabi" and "huāhuǒ"). The song uses all of these meanings: wanting to spark up the fires of anger ("hwa") to burn up the leftover resentment ("han"), and warm up the frozen cold ("han") heart so flowers ("hwa") of new love can blossom again. Super cool, super deep, in the way how all the wordplay about "han" and "hwa" was used. And it's not the end either: Soyeon and Minnie said that Moon was postponed to be on this album, because it matches the mood, as you look at the sky and... feel. The rest of the songs are also meaningful in their own place in the album. In Miyeon's words, "We tried to express this album as cold winter, hot fire and beautiful but stinging flowers. It also has the meaning of overcoming the scars of separation and being in full bloom again.” Hwaa was also translated into English. Soyeon said they paid special attention with the British songwriter Phildel to make sure the English version captures the exact same feelings like the original. One of the very few English translations in Kpop I wholeheartedly recommend. EDIT: Oh, right, the dance. I think I read that they went and learned this traditional Korean dance, though I can’t find it again, and can’t remember the name of the dance; this goes well with the fact someone else mentioned, that the song uses archaic grammar and no borrowings. So cool.

Right. And for me, another English translation would be the song Oh My God, but I don't mean the English Lyrics set to the Korean Language song. They purposely made and English Language version of the song that is even more 'spicy' than the Korean Language version. AMAZING stuff! (_)I-DLE is an amazing group, whether six members or five. Soojin is amazing, I hope only the best for her. I am thoroughly OT6 and Cube needs to go monetarily bankrupt and collapse, since they are already morally bankrupt.

i love how in every gidle reaction you guys pause because of how gorgeous Shuhua is The girl you guys asked if she was the member that left is in fact her. In the beginning of 2021 there were mass bullying accusations happening in korea to hide the coverage of a famous athlete being a former bully by flooding social media with other scandals. One of the people that were accused and found innocent were Hyunjin from skz, him and Soojin were put on hiatus around the same time. Soojin was one of the many people accused but cube (gidles company) didn’t fight for her so they kicked her out the fall of 2021. She had to move in with family again since she was suicidal and barely eating but she was found innocent in court this fall so hopefully she is feeling some relief in that and she knows she has so much support still❤

This being the last song we heard for more than 1 year and a half since the fake accusations to Soojin (the member who left), just hurts and feels so heavy since we saw the girls cry, suffer and wanting to comfort Soojin and fans but not being able to talk about the controversy. The HWAA song presents the moombahton genre with an interesting hook, and has a touch of traditional Asian instruments. The lyrics express the cold emotions one feels after a breakup. Gidle is definitely underrated, i am glad the tomboy and nxde gradually open up their international market, they do deserved to be heard and known more! even if you heard their older songs, they are still good even now! This song is pure perfection!! I bet you didn't notice, but the girl in 6:32 is Shuhua their visual and one of the foreigners (She's from Taiwan) in the group. For years she sort of struggled with the language and had the least lines (now she gets way more), here in HWAA she had only 3 lines. This wasn't only bc she had a sort of language barrier. HWAA isn't writen in common korean, it's writen in more difficult pure korean, so that Shuhua didn't even understand what they were singing about, what is super sad known how beautiful the meaning of this song is in overcoming a breakup and bloom again as a new flower. This was when Yuqi, the chinese member, decided to write an chinese version of the song so that Shuhua can understand the beauty of the song, what she eventually did through this verison. There is also a english version for the international fans. GIDLE really though about all of us when it comes to this and we love them for it!!

HWAA is the third part of the trilogy song/story that Soyeon created, and is the title track of their 4th album "I BURN". It goes HANN (Alone) >> HANN (Alone in Winter) [b-side] >> HWAA. The girl biting the flower and the one you said is pretty is SHUHUA, the maknae and visual, and she was the inspiration for these three songs. HWAA can mean both FIRE and FLOWER (not sure if in language (Chinese/Korean) or in pronunciation), which is why Soyeon connected these two. Though they are opposite, they also have similarities, like the flow/fanning. blooming/growing, etc. If you focus on the dance (or watch the choreo vid), you can see that the movements shows both fire and flower. Since this is part of HANN's story, it connects to life as well, like the dead of winter and the life of spring. The hair connected to the tree may signify connection to their life since mostly, trees are used to symbolize life, the hair connection is like in AVATAR (the blue people) where they use their hair to connect with each other. Soyeon did the conceptualization of their songs on top of the production and all. She always held a meeting with the members and crew for the concept and storyboarding (kudos to the director and crew as well). This is why they have 3 version WINTER, FIRE, FLOWER which you can see with their outfits The abrupt ending is kinda their style huh? But it could mean that the fire being snuffed out (ooooor a 4th part being released??) ~~some fun facts~~ -They waited for a year to release this to fit the winter season. They said that this was created sometime between LION (Queendom) and I TRUST album (Oh My God) [means around Nov 2019 - March 2020] . -You noticed the blue flower burning? This might be a stretch but it could be a throwback to LION''s lyric where Soyeon said "A blue flower burning", which connects to HANN, the first of trilogy, when she also said "Like a hungry lion..." -The snow on the set is salt and they're throwing it to each other. -Maybe it's just me, but some of them looked like a cartoon or anime characters. MIYEON looked like Boa Hancock from One Piece with her bangs (she also have a high kick from their behind the scenes), SHUHUA looked like Mulan with her red outfit, and SOYEON looked like Princess Azula (Avatar: The Last Airbender) also with her fire outfit (well, Azula is the fire princess).

NOTHING like you’ve ever heard before in kpop, right??? One thing you should know about GIDLE’s concept is that their concept is GIDLE. They’ve carved out their own lane. They aren’t the BEST vocalists, or BEST dancers, or necessarily have the “best” songs. But there is only one GIDLE. They’re like a band of misfits that somehow found themselves together and have created something very unique and amazing. If I’m keeping it 💯, other than Miyeon, it’s fair to say that it’d be far from a sure thing that any of the other members would be able to debut in any other group or with any company of comparable size. I'm glad that even though Shuhua barely has lines in this song (she got really insecure about singing in Korean and English after HANN where netizens talked negatively about her pronunciation/diction which basically reduced her to very simple lines for her own comfort. Nothing negative within the group caused her reduced lines. Anyway-) you still noticed her visuals and presence in the short parts she has. 6:25 + 7:16 ( and 8:03) in case you need to see her again lol I'm excited to watch the deep dive, hoping I don't oversleep lol

Did you know that HANN (Alone), HANN (Alone in Winter) an HWAA was actually was a story? There were like 3 episodes (which is the MVSs?) Edit: that girl you were talking about was Shuhua.

Yes soojin left the group due to fake accusations of bullying during high school or whatever. Our dear seo-soojin will always be part of G-Idle and she will always remains. The members and we neverland will always love her ❤️
