Absolutely love your boat project! Regarding the 4 thru hulls, they seem to be close together. Doesn’t it affect the fuselage integrity? I am sure you checked that but I was just wondering. Good teamwork! Rein

Hi Guys. Love the video’s. I’ve just seen something very interesting about boat building safety. It was about designing the boat in such a way as to minimise disaster at sea. It was “sailing Uma, step 398”. I hope you find this helpful. Keep up the good work.

Use baking soda and 30% peroxide and make a paste. Coat yellowed plastic parts with paste. Put in plastic ziplock out in the sun for hours. The UV light from sun and peroxide paste will get rid of the yellowing and bring back original color.

If you slow simmer 1 liter 3% peroxide down to 100ml you'll end up with about 20%-25%, which will also work. If you do this do it slowly

This process is known as RetroBright and, having done it with some old Lego myself, it doesn't really last. About 2 years after doing it, the white bricks I did this on are yellowing again. Details here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retrobright I think you'd be better off sanding and spraying.

Thanks for sharing your journey , for the rocker switches on the lamps can't you just buy new ones and cut the brass plates to fit your new switches?? You might want to check out the ones that are put in either a kenworth or peterbilt semi truck, they're durable and shouldn't be that expensive plus you can add a chrome housing around it if they don't line up exactly

Love that cleaned up engine room bilge. Are you building any watertight bulkheads or compartments where you have thru hulls or rudder posts? ( to be fair I just watched Uma pointing out how most boats rarely have this) . Those switches look like regular old american switches , similar to in my house , can you show the entire switch? Cheers Warren

For the rocker switches, there are numerous online suggestions for restoring yellowed plastic, although some of them can weaken the plastic, start with the least aggresive (washing powder, baking soda, water and rubbing) and work upwards with sanding/polishing as a last resort. I guess masking the gaps by sticking in strips of paper and then spray painting would be too tricky.

you can get the switches and any other heavily yellowed plastic bits retrobrighted if you put them into a plastic food container with 30% hydrogen proxide which you can easily obtain from online or from a hairdresser shop. just dunk them in peroxide and leave them exposed to sun in a locked plastic container for 2 days and they will be good as new
