In my opinion, Symbolica is far superior to the Ratatouille ride, which is mostly just a series of projection screens. I like being immersed in the world of a ride, and Symbolica does that. It is richly decorated in every direction you look, and doesn't constantly park you in front of a projection screen every 2 minutes.

It annoys me that there's so much disrespect towards the attractions... I mean people from the UK shouldn't have such an opinion about a Dutch theme park. If you would've informed yourself more about the history and stories behind some of the attractions maybe you would've understand and don't label it as "weird" or "random". These stories are very authentic and well thought out and not """weird""" at all!

The story of symbolica is that you are invited by the king, and while the servant of the king explains all the rules the fool (Pardoes the Efteling mascot) steps in and take you on a ride through the palace.

He should know Pardoes is the mascot, he had been there before. I knew before i went as saw it on UK-TV programme-Wish You Were Here. Not only that it does say it on the park he is everywhere, pus in souvenir guide. etc No good excuse!

Nice vlog, you actually missed half the park. You really need 2 days. I recommend staying on site in one of the hotels or bungalows, it is worth it and admission to the park is included on all days including day of arrival and the day you check out

I stumbled upon this video by accident as I was looking to show a friend. I'm Belgian (half British too in fact), but Efteling is the best theme park I have visited so far. I actually rate it way higher than Euro Disney. Python is the first coaster I ever rode on, and that was way back in 1981 if I'm not mistaken. It was pretty new back then. Spookslot is awesome, not sure why you didn't like it. All in all, the fairy tale theme throughout the whole park, that's what makes it such a beauty! You're a really sweet couple, I will look into more of your videos :)

Python was the frist roller coaster of The Efteling, and at the time the biggest and fastest in Europe. The flying Dutchman is a literal translation of the Dutch name wich is : De vliegende Hollander. Vogel means bird and Rok is the name of The bird.

There is a story behind Spookslot, they tell it in the waiting area, sometimes you have to wait a few minutes. It is only told in Dutch, so I can see why people from other country's don't get it. That story is what you see in the main show. There once was a count who collected fairytales and story's from all over the world. But the evil witch Vesculamia wanted to steal them. She could make flowers move and stones dance. One day she disguised hereself as a young beautifull virgin so the could seduce the count. But the gardener of the count had seen her do it and told the count who she really was. She was send to court and there 3 judges sentenced here to be burned to death. At the last moment, she cried out a curse. The count would have to spend eternity to look for his most beloved "fairytale": his daughter Esmeralda. But he would never find her. And at midnight when the enchanted crow of Vesculamia calls you can see the flowers move and stones dancing. Then the gardener can be seen hanging on the rope of the belltower. The 3 judges can be seen looking out at the scene below. And in the catacombes of the castle you can see the count searching for his daughter. Also on the left side of the scene you can see Esmeralda coming out of her grave, and on the right side you can see the count coming out of his tomb. And on the right side you can also see Visculamia burning on here pire.

They removed the rings out of the character’s noses and they made the lips less thicker. They also moved a scene and refurbished the whole thing kind of.

Those fanta things with ice cream are called floats. Its quite popular in south africa, you have soda with some ice cream on top. I recomend just trying it DIY

Jess did say vogelrock correctly. And yes there used to be Afrika in Carnaval Festival, but they took it out pretty recently because people where offended by the stereotype. They wanted to do the same with Monsiour Cannibale on that same square. I think there used to be a big cannibal in there that they might have removed. I haven't been to de Efteling for about 15 years, we are going to bring our 4 yo son for the first time in a couple of weeks.

Carnival Festival has a zero minute que in a normal year. It's a copy of "It's a small world" from Disney. Vogel Rok is equally a reaction to Space Mountain (version 1). Never updated, yet still better. You missed a wooden coaster, the original. Joris is a replacement.

I knew that wouldn't be the case lol Also what you said about Symbolica i didn't agree with, i like Ratatouille but prefer Symbolica- but how did you not get the story and you been on it before-The story is of Symbolica is all about visiting king Pardulfus, who lives in (court of hearts). While the visitors await their audience with the king, a character called (a jester who is Efteling's main mascot) appears. Pardoes then guides the visitors through hidden parts of the palace. And as for Vogel Rock- that is not just a big bird but a massive bird, So how did you not know what the ride was themed too-LMAO refers to the adventure of Sinbad and the Bird Roc from the 1001 Arabian Nights Folk Tale-On Sinbad's second journey he was left behind on a little island. Upon searching the island he found an enormous white globe. While he was trying to figure out what it was the sky darkened and he hid. A giant bird appeared and landed on top of the egg. Sinbad unwrapped his turban and managed to tie himself to one of the creatures legs unnoticed. Hoping that the creature would travel close to his companions so he might rejoin them. After some time the bird alighted, Sinbad squeezed his eyes tight shut. The bird Roc swooped and soared until finally descending and landing. ​ Sinbad released himself from it's leg immediately. The bird pounced! but not onto Sinbad, it still hadn't noticed it's presence. But on a giant serpent. Taking it away in it's claws it left Sinbad in a barren wasteland. ​Sinbad despaired at his current plight and regretted the terrible flight. And as for Spookslot, how did you think it was terrible and why did you think it was a ghost train-Jess said Haunted House first-I totally disagree it is very well done and first opened in 1978-I mean do some research and also sure you must of got a souvenir guide when you last came and tells you all about it there/also asked someone-let alone Efteling has been advertised on UK TV over the years! Spookslot-When the bell in the Haunted Castle tolls, the graves start to creak and the ghosts start to feel restless as their pasts torment them. This marks the start of a bone-jangling show.

That was opened in 1978 (I was 3 yo) and yes it now is extremely dated, but it is part of the parks history. As a child there only was Het sprookjesbos (fairytale forest), het spookslot , the little train and the boats and python was opened when I was 6. For years it was only that plus the pirate ship.
