I have commented this on a different Efteling vlog, but since it is apt to yours too, I will repeat it. Comparing Efteling to Disney is an easy mistake since both Efteling and Disney use fairytales (or at least Disney used to). But it is a mistake nonetheless, and it does a disservice to Efteling. A) Efteling is not owned by a mega-corporate chasing bottom line but by a nonprofit foundation that aims to promote nature, leisure, and sport. It's just one park in one location. B) Efteling don't sugarcoat the fairytales they stick much closer to the often much darker storylines than those churned out by Disney. C) Efteling's build materials are what you see. When you see wood, it's wood. brick is brick. Plaster is plaster. Not everything is painted concrete. D) They honour their history and don't teardown or retheme old rides willy-nilly. Their approach is much more longterm client-binding (child, teenager, parent, grandparent) and they hold on to what you liked as a kid so you can share that later in life with your grandchild.

Fun fact: The primary reason Aquanura exists is to slow people down. Without it right there when it's closing time and everyone leaves at the same time people will clog the exit and there'll be queues and it's frustrations all around. They didn't want that. They wanted to create more of a dripfeed exit sort of thing. So they decided to build an eye catcher at the exit that some people might hang around at for a while. And that resulted in the 3rd largest water show installation on the planet.
@TheDandylion54 ай бұрын
@@PinnacleNL makes sense , amd wow didn't know it was the 3rd largest, it was amazing though 😁

it's also to lure people TO the exit. Every other attraction closes before aquanura starts, and they don't want people to linger on the many locations in the park you can hang out. Now people are motivated to go to the exit immediately, then hang around there for a while during the show.

1:05:56 what's REALLY crazy is there are no animatronics in Fata Morgana at all. Animatronics animate with electronics, hence the name. Fata Morgana is one of the oldest rides in the park. These puppets have no electronics. Everything in this ride is animated by a wires and springs system, with revolving wheels that have a varying circumference allowing the springs to pull more or less far to enact a movement of a joint on the other side of yhe wire, over a time loop (how long it takes the wheel to turn completely). Each movement in each character has it's own wheel. There's hundreds of revolving wheels in the basement. And it has less maintenance issues than animatronics I think.

The Fata Morgana is older then Disney's Aladdin, the inspiration was from 1001 Arabic nights, which is a different story. (I'm Dutch, so i do not know if i translated that correct) In the dream-flight attraction there are actual rain-forrest trees, moved and re-planted in the attraction, during the winter cleaning the crew found lots of tarantulas who hatched from the eggs that where in the trees. Lucky there is a reptile-zoo nearby (Olie-molen in Tilburg) who came to collect the spiders. Most children nearby will get a seasoncard so they can hangout in the Efteling instead of a child-care facility, great place to grow up. 3 nice facts from someone who lived nearby for the first half of his life.

Nice vlog of Efteling. Not many people know but a long long time ago Efteling started out as a main football field with 2 practice football fields and a playground. This is explained on the official website of Efteling on the history part. Well at least the Dutch version of the Efteling website. Later they added the fairytale forest and people all over the country started coming. Then they started adding rides and rollercoasters. Efteling is built in a nature reserve and is not owned by a big corperation like Disney. Efteling is owned by a foundation that focuses on theming and keeping the park autenthic as it is. That is why entrance prices, food and hotel prices are much lower then Disney. Even tough there is a lot of land to build on, Efteling cannot just built bigger rides and rollercoasters because people who live nearby objected to expansion of Efteling due to noise complaints. As you saw Efteling is building a new hotel but they have also been building haunted mansion Danse Macabre that looks like a run down monastery. They themed it that way. Danse Macabre replaced the old Spookslot which was somewhat spooky but nothing like Danse Macabre. Danse Macabre is an haunted mansion that cost around 35 million euros to build. The waiting line will start on a spooky graveyard. I dont think it will be suited for really small kids tough. What I have seen is they put church benches in Danse Macabre to sit on that will float trough the air for a horrific interactive experience lol. Danse Macabre replaced Spookslot which met with a lot of resistance by fans of Efteling who wanted to keep it that way. Efteling was built before Disney parks even existed so a lot of Dutch people will object to the name Dutch version of Disney. I dont mind it at all but I have seen Dutch people really get upset about it. Lol. Then they tell you the story of Walt Disney coming to Efteling and taking inspiration of Efteling which no one really knows is true. We have video footage of Walt Disney being in The Netherlands but if he went to Efteling remains a question. Disney Imagineers of Disney did ask help from Efteling staff and Efteling imagineers what people in Europe would like to see in Disneyland Paris. I know that one of Efteling Imagineers moved to the US to work for Disneyworld. A lot of Efteling is based on the work of Dutch artist Anton Pieck. We have more themeparks in The Netherlands but Efteling has a special place in peoples hearts as most Dutch people went there as a child with their parents, grandparents or on a school trip. Of all the themeparks in Europe Efteling comes out as third best park. Only Phantasialand and Europapark in Germany are said to better. I think a lot of theme park designers took inspiration from Efteling as it is one of the oldest themeparks in Europe. You can easily take your grandparents to Efteling without going on any rides and just enjoy nature and the restaurants like you said. It is such a vibe. We have one guy here that goes to Efteling 165 days of the year that says enough. I like to say it is the happiest place in The Netherlands.

The defect turned out to be very difficult to solve: during the construction of Symbolica, Efteling chose not to make the movement technology accessible from the outside. but fortunately Efteling has announced that the problem is finally being resolved. The Efteling was definitely NOT the inspiration for Walt Disney. At the time Disney came up with the idea for Disneyland the Efteling was just a nature and sportspark. In 1952 when Disney’s parks was well in de development state Efteling opened the fairy tale forest in the nature park. And it was only until 1978 when the first rides came to Efteling. Now, for the actual template. In 1948 or so, Walt and his family went on vacation to Europe. While there they went to Tivoli Gardens an amusement park in Copenhagen. Everything was well kept up and painted. The staff was polite. The food was varied and good. The landscaping was nice, benches to relax on. That is the actual prototype for Disneyland.
@Lawrencevbeek4 ай бұрын
@@pluchesteven1I think you are responding to the wrong comment, but you are certainly right on that topic. But Efteling was involved in the realization of Disneyland Paris. the imagineers of Efteling and Disney were good friends, including Tony Baxter (Disney) and Lex Lemmens (Efteling) were very good friends with each other. Tony Baxter, for example, was very impressed with the ride photo system that was first used at an Efteling attraction that he visited. It in fact means ‘open now’ (if it’s ’open nu’) or ‘open yourselves’ (if it’s ’open u’). Because Pardoes (the jester from Symbolica, he was the park mascot till 2008) commands the stairs to open, to reveal the secret passage you go through. They have a ton of older rides that a park favorites. The place where max and morrits is now was the location of a older bobsled coaster and they kept the station building only replaced it with two dueling coasters. Like symbolica is based on pardoes the royal jester and the other character OJ punctual the royal lackey and he is trying to stop you and pardoes helps you. THe soty of Baron is that a baron was looking for gold in a mine and he wanted to go deeper and deeper while people warned him to not doo that then ghosts called the white women and thats the ghosts you saw they where warning you that it wouldnt end well so thats the story. And the flying dutchman ride is about a captain that wanted to go out to travel on easter while most people where like dont travel on east thats a bad idea and he crashed like you can see in the ride so yeah :D Jorge and the dragon has two side one fire one water. Before that coaster was there there stood a wooden coaster name pegasus but it became old and rough so they decided to replace it with two dualing ones. They are in talks to shutter fabula it never has been a really popular attraction it was orignaly another movie used as way to get attention to climate chance with WNF a nature preservation organization in the netherlands. For next time with the small one go to the fairytale forest its amazing with all known and unkown fairytales :D. Aquanura has recently gotten its fire removed due to co2 problems. @TheDandylion54 ай бұрын
@adamjones-ki1xp loads cheaper than disney, it's €51 euros per person, per day, you can get it for about €38 if it's your birthday month (or two weeks into the following month) if you sign up online with Efteling 😁
@Qq-vh5jq4 ай бұрын
It is cheaper. Mostly because the Efteling isn't a big company with shareholders. It still is a foundation that has to invest in nature proserve. A ticket costs about 50 euro's but sometimes you can get discounts.

Haha. I just got to you saying "nothing was broken" in Fatamorgana. Um, sorry to ruin the illusion, but I rode the ride when everything was working the way it should have been and there's a bunch of things that just don't work any more. Like there's supposed to be a solid rock wall that the wizard opens up for you to get into the palace, which hasn't worked for ages. There's a woman with a jar that's supposed to pour water down into the canal next to the boat that only sporadically pours water these days. And that last scene with the cat portal, the whole room should be turning around you as you go through. Also there's supposed to be lasers shooting from the cat's eyes. The lasers actually still work, but the misting system that makes them visible has been broken for a while. It's just that it's so detailed that if you don't know about these things you don't miss them. But there's currently rumors going around Fatamorgana is going to be demolished because the "big" maintenance keeps being postponed. It might have come to a point where repeatedly fixing it up to it's former glory will cost more than building a whole new attraction.

Disney really is the American Efteling. Walt built his park after coming to the Netherlands. There was no proof he went to efteling, but I guess he didn't want to get sued for copying. At the time Disney was thinking of building Disneyland, the Efteling was nothing more than sporting fields, a swimming pool and a very minimal fairytale forest. There was not much to be inspired by as a themepark. The efteling as we know it know began to evolve in the late 70's. At a time when Disneyland was already 20 years old. It is safe to say (and actually true) that the Efteling design crew drew inspiratie from Disneyland.

One of the 5 parks i did this year. And to be honest, my least favorite. Its a nice park, alot of rides but my Dislikes are - No top tier coaster (Baron & Joris are good but not that top level. Python & vogelrok are kinda...meh). - Alot of issues & technical problems on many rides(8). Usually quickly fixed. But sometimes it added extra 20-40 minutes. - Very Crowded
@ArumesYT4 ай бұрын
It's not a coaster park. If adrenaline shots is all you care about, you have to go somewhere else. That doesn't mean the Efteling is worse though, it's just *different*. As TheDandylion5 said, you can even enjoy yourself a whole day without going on any ride at all.
