There are Muslim couples ( a lot in Egypt) that do date but they don’t do anything sexual. The parents do know and support it because they are dating with the initiations of marriage and it allows the families to sort of build a relationship and merge before marriage; moreover, Islam is built on love and encourages couple to love each other while still following the Islamic rules of no sexual contact or inappropriate talk before marriage. There are few people that still get married the traditional way which is arranged marriage but they have the engagement period to know each other (no sexual contact again) and the couple have to agree to the marriage.

I thought that both of the couple did love marriages. But seems like a traditional arranged marriage. In this generation it is rare. Usually in some religions they give mahir that is a lot of gold and pay lot of money to the bride. In some Asian countries girl pays to the boy as dowry. Actualy girl must be more worthy when starting a family. The demand the girl more even after tha marriage and it is a main cause for seperations. Someone should seriously bring a strict law to stop it. In west, no one pay anyone as I know.

dowry is permitted for women and their future if they lose the husband's backing be it death or divorce, and as some marriages fails women fear to be wrong by the men as you can't know what happens in the future, not all women ask for it and those who do as long it is a reasonable amount there nothing wrong with asking for it, and both sides can refuse the marriage if they disagree on those matters and there's nothing wrong that either.

In Islam, a woman is not forced to marry if she doesn't want that person to be her husband, she has a saying and it's for her to decide for her wedding with the blessings of the parents.
