Nice to see a rambling video for a change, although I do like the road trip videos too. I agree that you need to quote pence per mile, but I do think it's worth seeing how the takings for the day or week translate into an hourly rate if only to see if you're picking the right jobs or not or whether your strategy needs changing.

Hi Hot5and7 thank you for your comment. If it works for you, keep on doing it. Im sure their are a plethora of strategies used and each will have its merits. Yes I agree with you that everyone should monitor their strategy and learn to recognise its weakness, to change those parts and not be too reluctant to try something different. :-)

Is it possible people are doing 45p PM doing multi jobs? Say 2 pick ups Manchester 1 pays 65p per mile and one bid 45p and both jobs going same way? Can people do this on CX?

It's really busy around Leeds I've never seen it quiet. Even jobs on weekends. I only look at LWB and Luton jobs so God knows how many jobs inc small vans but we're lucky as many cities all within 40 odd miles. If someone's doing 45p per mile either a backload or co load.

Leeds and surrounding always looks after me . An area i always run home full on and im happy to be there . Im backloading after getting the £1 to £1.10 on the outbound so aim for around 80pplm or more on the backloads with good sucess ( luton ) . Without knowing it you sir are in a half decent place ! . To give a flavour i visited a friend in wales last year . On checking for jobs there was a total of 4 within 30 miles and 11 within 50 . January i was there again and in 24 hours at 75 miles there was ZERO jobs ............. none , not even 1 .......... This after xmas has been special . Ive never known it so quiet .... and its still hasnt ended !

With fuel at £1.85- £2.00 per litre, anyone quoting £0.45p per mile is buying their work. It’s getting very hard to get a fair days pay for a Fair days work. Keep ‘er lit mate….

I presume your van is 2.2 TDI...Around 36 miles to a 5 litres /gallon. That story about the shipper getting 45p a mile sounds like she went with SHIPLY.. I've learned so much out of pricing.. I get into bidding wars.. I did have deliver where it was a full van load and some I never really worked out my costings 100% but i was between £53 and £63 per drop.. Had my driver found work going from were I live in Swansea to PE19 but that was dead miles And then Dead miles to 1st drop.. The driver had to take me back to Swansea from Taunton and drive back to his next delivery.. The circuit we had was around BA11/BA4/BA5/TA11/TA1/TA4/TA24 Just some out of 11. No your not waffling your making loads of sense.. and I know. I friend worked in London back in 2007 his weekly wage for 50 hours on circuit was £300 His rental van (with the company ) £200 (£50 was a weekly deposit) for 10 weeks. There was bonus income too... £1.00 per job loaded So in your example I had 2 collections x4 London to Bedford Northampton Coventry and Leeds.. that was a good day but nothing returning.. He worked 7 days because he loved the job and weekends is laid back..

Hi Big Foz Multi drop is deadly keep it short.. I did the training side of it Learned lots but Your just a robot if your AMAZON based Flex maybe different...70% of your earned income is outgoing costs that don't include fuel costs.. That's hiring there van.. But its still mind blowing expensive..

Hi Sarah, I admire all who do multidrop but it's hard work compared to Courier Exchange work. However starting costs are very expensive on the Courier Exchange and then waiting 75 days for payment on some contracts is bonkers. Also as I have discovered there are huge quiet periods on the CX. So whichever we choose to do, there are ups and downs. I tramp when the Cx is busy and that's when you earn the big money. At the moment though I'm driving HGV again, waiting for the Cx to get busy😁

45ppm in a lwb .............. it costs you 40ppm ! ................. if you do 40 mile at that rate you earn 2 quid minus your running costs ........... so your not even running for free , you are paying for another company to exist !!!!! £40 mini ...... at least a quid a mile to pay the bills You fight it out with the people who will not be around at this time next year every day because they simply dont do the mathematics . Edit ...sod it lets do it swb and medium ... thats 80pplm Anything bigger at least a quid a mile . If you run for less than this you will NOT last . The grand that drops into the account ( at some point in the distant future ) is useless when you have a 600 quid fuel bill , 200 on insurance and 100 on all the other crap . You mugged yourself off and fed those who would exploit your efferts ............... so a quid a mile YEAH !!!!!!!!! .............. french shit like partners etc runs at 50+mpg , bigger stuff gets more choise of work but does less mpg . Its horses for course . Less than 30 miles call it 40 quid .... it maybe a mile or it maybe 29 .... its 40 quid as you are on hours not distance . The shippers are charging 75+ the vat so they will not ignore your quote . Handball add 20 an hour ...... multi drop do your mini ( 40 ) and add a tenner a drop/collection upto the point its half a day at which point you call it £100 ( around 5 or more drops distance depending , yes i know the math doesnt add up , theres always an overlap ) . More than half a day its 160( swb ) -200 (lwb) . You get more like the 180 on a regular but if there posting up a full day ad hoc then they aint getting it cheap . Waiting is 20 an hour .......... lets run through that so you know and can call their bulshit . Sat on the M40 your doing 60 miles in an hour . Thats worth a potiential £48-60 an hour . However you burn through fuel so its a fair statement to say for sitting around doing nothing but stressing and hassling people you see £20 for your trouble . Get it into YOUR notes on the CX . They called you so give you the job on this rather than the £10 or 15 an hour some seek to pay knowing full well your days likely to be ruined by JLR or JCB . Its not unreasonable or excessively expensive . Its realistic . The excat same with handball ..... give them 20 minutes and a call , then 20 minutes free if they get it together and charge them at the hour . We are not a charity ..... they are not a charity . They pass the cost on and so should you . Good luck out there ... you will need it .
