Coach, love the channel and the hard work you guys put in each episode. Now, this is one of the great ones. There is nothing easier in sports than place the blame of a result in the refs which generally don't have a voice; and Mr. Nunn does an outstanding job breaking down the other side. Being an athlete myself I can understand the frustration of losing, but this is the healthiest of ways to deal with the loss and moving on from a pointless debate. Great stuff from both and it would be awesome to have him break down more NBA stuff in the playoffs. Thanks, big fan.

I knew we got fleeced in this game. I'm not going to completely blame the refs because Wisconsin couldn't get anything going down the stretch but they would've had more opportunities if the correct calls were called. You should do one on the Kentucky game so I can stop hearing UK fans complain about UW getting all the calls that game

I'm sorry duke got some calls in the 2nd half that helped them. Plus ball out on Winslow, and other play Winslow stepped out of bounds, should have been Wisconsin ball, clear as day no excuses. I also feel that at times this guy on the video making too many excuses on behalf of the referees. Now I'm not saying that Wisconsin would have not lost this game if it weren't for some of the calls or the outs on Winslow but it helped duke. And I am a Duke fan by the way.

Great video! Not a Duke fan here. But to be fair, shouldn't the last play be a loose-ball foul in the first place? #24 seemed to have hit #12 on the head and body 2-3 times to get the ball loose after missing his shot. Anyway, it was a great championship game!

It used to be that Duke players would constantly slide under players in the air and get charge calls. Now they just throw themselves into the defender and hope for a call that they usually get. But, Kaminsky was flopping against Arizona and he got calls that changed the game so Wisconsin isn't that credible either.

I do think Duke got some very timely favorable calls, but they weren't enough to change the outcome of the game. What I think really changed the outcome was how UW responded to the bad calls. UW got flustered, went into "victim mode" for a few minutes and that was the end of it. Its hard for a group of college players to handle that kind of adversity but a championship team finds a way.

Nilson perez Ball rotation never changed. I agree though that he did touch it for sure. But only that one angle shows that, and the refs on the floor didn't have the angle we all saw. Duke fan here as well. Should've been Wisconsin's ball, but ONLY if they had that one angle, which the head of referees stated that they didn't.

I understand why the floor officials missed the out-of-bounds play after reviewing it. If you don't have the definitive angle, there's no way you would see it was off Duke. On the other hand, the NCAA's response was hilarious. First, NCAA head of officiating John Adams said he saw it late but the floor officials didn't see it at all, and that he decided not to inform the floor officials. Then NCAA's vice president of men's basketball says Adams "misspoke" and that the floor officials did have the angle they needed, but made a hasty judgment before making sure they could get the call right.

I feel like the UW players allowed those bad calls to get into their heads and that's what affected the outcome of the game more than anything else. You can't go into "victim mode" at the most crucial time. A championship team fights through the bad calls and will not be denied.

BBALLBREAKDOWN Great video! Keep up the great work!! Wish you would've(could've) included all of the "controversial" calls from both halfs of the game. Okafor's 2nd foul; Winslow's 1st and 2nd foul; The other time Winslow barreled into the lane in the 2nd half and there was contact and the arena and Wisconsin were yelling for a charge, but no call was made(charge or block); The "charge" Tyus Jones drew on Dukan in the 2nd half; The supposed traveling violation on Kaminsky leading to Okafor's 4th foul(the foul was very clear, haven't been able to see a replay though to see if Frank the Tank walked or not). Can't remember if there were any others I heard about through the grapevine from both sides, but it would've been neat had you been able to have the time to break down all of them with Nunn. Again, great job!! And I definitely walked away confident, knowing my boys weren't aided by the refs which changed the outcome of the game.
@dalehartzler2359
@dalehartzler2359 9 жыл бұрын
Now that you've dealt with the questionable calls (excellent, BTW), you need to do a breakdown on how Wisconsin's offense what AWOL down the stretch. Movement was terrible. I'm a coach that uses the swing offense and I think my JV boys ran it better than Wisconsin did at the end of the game.
@bballbreakdown
@bballbreakdown 9 жыл бұрын
Now everybody is saying they don't really run the pure swing... Ugh. They are so timid on the catch it was frustrating to watch. I believe you need to attack on every catch, be a threat, put pressure on the defense to force a close out...
@dalehartzler2359
@dalehartzler2359 9 жыл бұрын
I think they were running swing mostly - except toward the end of the game. Not running much of anything then. Swing is like most good offenses (incl. the triangle): you have to read and respond to what the defense is doing. This can make it look like they aren't running "pure swing". I like your using the word "timid" - accurately describes their offensive execution in the end game.
@lisaharris7001
@lisaharris7001 Жыл бұрын
You are correct. UW were like the walking dead down the stretch. I think UW players got caught up in the "We're getting screwed by the refs" mentality and they were not dealing with the momentum shift well. A championship team must be mentally tough above all else. A coach has to tell his players to "fight through" the bad calls, not shut down because of them. I think Bo is a great coach but he is prone to the "refs are screwing us" mentality and that trickled down to his players at the worst possible time.

I'm sorry but I'm not buying Ronnie's explanation for the OB call. I'm watching it on a similar sized monitor that the officials used, and from a couple of different angles it was clear that his middle finger moved just as the ball passed. That is clear as day. At about the 5:30 mark, we see one of my pet peeves about today's NCAA and NBA game: a guy draws contact, and we see the head snap. Granted, he made the shot, but this is kind of grating to watch. Everyone's priority is to sell the call instead of putting himself at best position to make the play. Even though he made it, he made the shot tougher for himself by snapping his head instead of maintaining vision of the hoop.

There are missed calls by officials in just about every major sporting event. The outcome of every game is always going to be questionable. Especially close games. BBALLBREAKDOWN, Coach Nick! The NBA season is ending and after checking the standings from both Conferences, there are serious injustices regarding the qualifying teams and matchups. I feel like the Western teams who just missed making the cut deserve those playoff spots more than the lower bracket of the Eastern teams. It's a difference of only 2 possessions though. Wisconson was plus 1 and duke plus 3. If you ran a statistical simulation based on this game and gave duke two fewer possessions in this game it would have only made a difference of about 2-3 points (Duke averaged barely over 1 point per possession this game). Also, this is just a few of the selected plays from the game. If you went one by one and looked at every single play you would find so many more missed called. Coach Nick literally said himself he is biased and it shows in the choice of clips he decided to review.

I think he traveled right before he started the shooting motion, when he bumped his shoulder into the defensive player. But if I were to call it in real time I would also have called a defensive fault.

I don't/didn't care who won this game but the "advantage meter" was a bit stupid to be honest, I mean the last 2 calls that "advantaged" duke in no way were a biased call that intentionally gave duke advantage. In many cases refs are hesitant to call out of bounds on players (be it stepping out or last touch of the ball) who have been forced into a position to do so.
@bballbreakdown
@bballbreakdown 9 жыл бұрын
Can't really do that. If the guy is out of bounds, and you're not calling a force out, then you must call out of bounds. No brainer...

But if there is a push be it small, that misplaces a player enough to step on the line but to keep the game free flowing and avoid a soft foul, a no call seems like a good solution

Man I just didn't like how physical Duke was to have WI only have 2 fouls called in the first half and then have 13! in the 2nd half.. that doesn't seem right. WI doesn't foul and I remember college has these new rules stating no hands can be in contact with a drive and I felt like Duke was throwing themselves all over the place and the officials were biting on it. Also this Nunn dude is an idiot I'm sorry if a player steps out of bounce 2 feet from an official and you miss it it's a bad call
@goreshadetube
@goreshadetube 9 жыл бұрын
If the refs were focusing on looking at ball rotation or inertia they wouldn't have seen anything to over ride the original call. They had to review several different angles very quickly and only one showed contact. It was an easy miss.

@BYSMA4th

jeppep95 NCAA rules does not state that the defender can't move his feet. They just have to have position before the offensive player goes up for a shot. Kaminsky was moving backwards from the direction the ball was going, so he had already established his position on the floor before the offensive player made his move. That's a charge.
@jeppep95

BYSMA4th How can his position be established if he is still moving?

jeppep95 A defender has rights to his own space, otherwise people could just recklessly go in and throw the ball up after a defender makes contact and then get the foul call. Contrary to popular belief, just because a defender's feet aren't set, it doesn't mean they're not able to get a charge call.
@BYSMA4th

Wisconsin made shots to beat Kentucky just like Kentucky made shots to win the year before. These were two very evenly matched teams But the Badgers were a MUCH better team than Duke and were totally jobbed in the final. The refs just kept punching the air out of them with these ridiculous calls one after the other. It took its toll and by the end of the game, Wisconsin didn't have the energy to overcome both the refs and the arrogant ones in blue. So sad. What should have been a monumental year for Wisconsin ended up being just another banner at Cameron indoor stadium.

bad calls all throughout that game. calls against duke shut down any good run we could have sparked in the first half. fact is, dekker was shut down. and so was gasser. dukan couldnt hit no bail out treys and that was the end of that. 2 bad calls at the end of the game wasnt going to change the outcome. wisconsin SHOULD be upset that lil grayson allen came off the bench and had them SHOOK, not even wanting to guard him. veteran squad getting worked by grayson.

BBALLBREAKDOWN I disagree. Both Okafor and Winslow had a bad foul called on them each (the clean block by okafor was the most egregious one) that got them both in foul trouble and forced duke to switch to a zone for a large portion of the 1st half to protect Winslow whilst Okafor had to go to the bench.

No way. The badger defense was well executed and clean. Duke fouled and pouted ALOT in the 1st half. You can clearly see that Okafor leaned in with the body on his foul and Winslow is a bull in a china shop on every play. He got away with bulldozing the lane several times away from the ball.

Allen was a surprise buy he didn't "destroy" anyone. The best plays were by that kid from Minnesota who probably dreamed of being able to beat the Badgers because of the state rivalry. He made the "nail in the coffin" 3 pointer near the end of the game.

at the end of the day, the Blue Devils went to Big 10 country and beat the Big 10 champions.....AND the runners up......twice a piece. So along with being National Champions, im staking claim to the Big 10 title too. Duke was just the better team. Just accept it. If you want something to talk about, speak on how Bo Ryan is a poor sport. And guess what......Duke is going to wax Wisconsin again next season in NYC. Wont be an issue to draw them again in the ACC/Big 10 challenge either. This time, send them down to Cameron.

Great video, thank you for posting this. The only quibble I have is the final "score" of WI +1 and Duke +3. The WI +1 was the only questionable call against Duke that was reviewed and Ronnie would have reversed it - so that was legit missed call. Ronnie would not have reversed the Winslow foot out of bounds, nor would not have reversed the finger touch, but you unfairly gave WI +1 for each. The only advantage for Duke that Ronnie found was the Winslow block/charge - so really the "score" should have been WI +1, Duke +1.
@bballbreakdown

I think u misunderstood the scoring. Without question, out of bounds was a missed call. Ronnie did say that, even though he was being sympathetic. Same with the review...
@davehankins7888

BBALLBREAKDOWN While both out of bounds were technically missed calls, in both instances Ronnie agreed with the officials. On the first OOB, Ronnie said it was a "good no call" due to all the other things going on, ie potential foul on WI for redirecting the Duke player. As a good no call, that would indicate to me that Duke did not get an advantage on that play (could have been a foul on WI). On the second out of bounds, Ronnie said that it was "basically impossible" to see Winslow's touch in real time and that he was "kind of happy" with the call. All in all, a hard fought and exciting championship game. I think the real difference was Wisconsin's willingness to settle for jump shots late in the second half, Duke's willingness to drive hard again and again, and Wisconsin's dreadful clock management in crunch time. Thanks again for posting this video and thanks to Ronnie for letting us all see through his eyes.

Refs of all sports especially basketball college, then pro = Owned by Vegas. Just watch the line for every game. They are not that good. Refs follow their vegas/mob lead and also put $$ on the games themselves and sometimes just put their ego and bias out there because they can. Easy to justify with no replays. Confessions are in books and internet. Barely scratches the surface surely. No reviews (hardly) advantage always to duke and their favorite other schools like ESPN favs - uconvict, then uncheat, and puke a few others to mix it up for the sheep. Never teams like wi. Get used to it. Its for entertainment purposes only and they justify it that way. Just enjoy for entertainment as on!y an appearance of fairness at best is fostered.

On the out-of-bounds call, Nigel Hayes had an armbar on Justice Winslow. Winslow clearly stepped out, but I think it was because Hayes was pushing him out. Winslow also had an arm on Hayes, but it didn't seem like he hooked him or was pushing on him at all because he already had beat him. Overall, I think Duke got more calls in the second half, but I don't think the refs influenced the outcome of the game.
