What else makes it harder is charging ridiculous prices and hoping that some people bite to get that home run. I hear ya. My brother was portrayed in the movie Deepwater Horizon by Mark Whalberg. There is a little girl who played my neice in that movie, and my real neice became her friend during the shooting of the movie. In fact, her dad and Mike became decent friends. They actually started a business together!! A sawmill actually... they refurbished it, got it running aagain, hired locals to run it again and everything was going well. One day my brother handed the other guy a check for over 9K bucks to take to the mill for payroll and bills.... they never saw him again. He quit answering the phone or anything. My brother calls the other guys wife, HEY!! WHERE THE FUK IS THIS ASSHOLE?!?! Know what the first thing she said was? "Oh no, not again"!! WHAT?!?! he's DONE THIS BEFORE?!?! yes... he takes our daughters money from acting jobs, and he runs off to a hotel with cocaine and hookers until all the money is gone 😢 and yeah.... he's done this to his family several times. What a piece of shit. Go look at that movie... an see the little girl?!? Just know. Her dad has smoked and snorted and prostitued ALLL her acting money away.

If police (who are often ignorant of the law) are dismissive, contact the local and states attorney general office. They will be able to evaluate the legalities and determine if it should be a criminal case, a civil case, or both. Most states consider bad checks to be a crime if it was used to pay for goods or services.

I have to say this is a criminal of the worst type. I also have to say that most of this problem is caused by the customers. Never pay for services not rendered. The first day the crew shows up with most of the materials and starts the work you pay 25%. At 50% of completion you pay another 25%. Upon completion you pay 40% holding back 10% for 30 days to make sure all parties are satisfied. This way no one is ever ahead or behind and there's no reason for any funny business. Customers, smarten up!.

My family was recently scammed by a contractor. Once we found out he was lying about being licensed it was too late. Our entire roof had been torn off and then a huge rain storm hit. Water leaking everywhere. Buckets thruought our home. Over $110k in damages. When I told him of the problem he showed up, grabbed his equipment, and left. Cant get ahold of him, neither can his insurance. Luckily we have home owners insurance and did get a copy if his GenLib.

@@travisrichardson6233 so basically you're one of those bad contractors... Which would make sense why you responded that way. Some of us have hired many contractors in our lives because we flip houses. When an average person can see with the help of KZbin the "professional" is doing something completely wrong, you spend more time arguing about timelines and cost overruns, and people just don't show up for days at a time you start to understand. Most contractors are lazy, unorganized, do half the work agreed on, and make you question how they got licensed in the first place. The easiest way to eliminate that trouble is request references from previous clients and literally stand by watching them like they're your toddler. Both things you shouldn't have to do.
@travisrichardson6233

@@mattypants So basically no I’m not. I’m not sure why you would think that? I don’t know one contractor who is a crook. I have multiple subcontractors for each trade and not one of them is a crook. “Flipping houses” So basically you’re telling me you hire the cheapest most unqualified trades so you can make more of a profit and then wonder why you have issues with your “contractors”. A little bit of homework on who you’re hiring goes a long way.
