Great reaction HB. Double reactions are really good. Please do more of them. Now.. Courtney. She lives in north-east England and appeared on the Voice Kids UK, getting to the finals. She was invited onto America's Got Talent and her Golden Buzzer audition has garnered maybe 650 million views on FB and YT. Aged 14, she reached the final, appeared on AGT Champions and, went to Las Vegas as part of the AGT live show. This video of Sucker was one of four recorded in London when she was still aged 14. She has been working on her debut album for Sony but the Covid outbreak and lockdown has delayed everything from recording to promotion. She hopes it will be out this year. As you say, she is unique and her fans can't wait for her to burst upon the world. There are plenty of videos of her on KZbin, from a young age to more recent lockdown performances. You should definitely review the other three Cover Sessions videos, "Old Town Road", "Someone You Loved" and "Sign of the Times" but also check out "What's Love Got To Do With It?" and her recent cover of "Happy Xmas - War is Over". She is now 16 and writes her own songs (which will feature on the album) as well as singing covers. Maybe you'll need to wait till someone else covers her own compositions to do a double video on those!

How ironic that you stated Courtney wasn't from this era. The judge that gave her the Golden Buzzer on her AGT audition, Howie Mandel, stated EXACTLY that: She wasn't from this era, and compared her with 1960's Janis Joplin. I hope that, eventually, you will be able to react to that AMAZING audition. AGT has ranked it as their 4th most viral moment in its 15-year history with well over 300-million views! 😱 As an aside, if you're a "Game of Thrones" fan, one of the Jonas bros married Sophie Turner who played a HUGE role in that HBO series as Sansa Stark. Another Jonas brother married Priyanka Chopra who was the main protagonist in the TV series, "Quantico". Both of them, plus the other Jonas bro's wife are in this YT "Sucker" video. It is true that Courtney has very energetic, quirky-cool movements. One sees that type of "different" movement in many singing greats who didn't move and/or dance traditionally, like James Brown, Mick Jagger, Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, Steven Tyler, etc. It's basically these all-time greats "feeling" the music and allowing it to move them. What's really impressive is that Courtney recorded Sucker 2-years ago when she was ONLY 14! In fact, all four "Cover Sessions" songs were recorded at 14. Other than the AGT audition, I would suggest that you finish listening to her other 3-songs from "Cover Sessions". The most impressive is "Old Town Road", a hip-hop + country fusion song which she turned completely on it's head and turned it into a kick-ass rock song. Of those 4-tunes, that one most shows just how creative she is. Link - kzbin.info/door/J0UIOws33p5zRE6Eul3rlw THANK YOU!!!! 🙏

I always have to give the musicians in the backgroud kudos for their part in this video. Knowing that your a drummer who needs to bring his set back out regardless of the kids, you'll probable appreciate the 2 guys backing Courtney, especially towards the half way point of this song. If you watch them only you'll notice how much fun they are having playing for her. Both are smiling at each other and then at Courtney in appreciation it looks like of how good she is. I see them thinking, "Damn this girl is so good, I'm loving this." Also, not sure you notice the keyboard keeping the beat with a Cajon with his foot pedal under the keys. He had just purchased it when this video was made. Maybe he offered to try it out on this video and "Old Town Road". Anyway have another look if you haven't already. OH yea, don't be another one of us, and put your instrument in the closet until the kids get older. We all regretted that move. Buy the kids a drum set or another instrument and maybe they will take it up and you can teach them too, just as Papa Liliac did. lolol You never know what may come of it. At the very least you won't lose your chops on drums if you keep playing.

@@HistoryBuff If you really want to experience her ability to make an overplayed song to your very own level, I recommend you Old Town Road (Live Cover) and that you do like this, listen to the original first. If you want to listen to a song that is incredibly beautiful and emotional, listen to Sign of the Times (Live Cover). All her performances at AGT are worth experiencing, I would wait to watch her very young years until you are completely bitten (my opinion) but from that time my favorite is when she sings for school, "Shotton Hall open mic - Friday 18 September 2015 "not many people have reacted to it

Bravo HB! Superb reaction! I always ask reactors to listen to the original first to see how Courtney has just remade the song. They seldom do. Courtney is the one who has the vision of what she wants to do with the song even at 14 as she was here. She also writes her own songs now, too. Anyway I would like to request “Sign of the Times” which is another one of the “Cover Sessions” songs. It is a whole different vibe than “Sucker”. If you want to see Courtney’s range, this is the song for you. I was mesmerized when I first heard it and you will be too. Courtney is no one trick pony. She can sing anything: rock, ballads, R&B, soul, pop ( not her favorite), and she even did one country/hip-hop one. Her voice is truly unique, unparalleled IMO. Hi HB. Really great reaction and so glad to have you on the Courtney Express. Courtney is amazing in so many ways. Unmatched vocals, pure stage dominance, off the charts creativity, dynamite guitarist and powerhouse song writer. Good call on Courtney being old school. Her biggest inspirations were people like James Brown, Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, etc. Courtney was on the 2018 season of AGT and her performances there took the world by storm. You are correct also in how unique Courtney is, both vocally and as a performer. There truly is no one like her and hasn't been in music for decades. Courtney's 2018 AGT audition went viral and now has over 500M views and Courtney has now in total has over 2 Billion on-line views. What you wouldn't know yet is the level of vocal versatility that Courtney has, since you've only seen this one uptempo performance in the Funk genre. Fact is that Courtney can sing just about anything and do it better than just about anyone else whether it be Rock R&B, Soul or Ballads. You're jaw will drop when you hear what an absolutely beautiful ballad voice Courtney has. The best part is that she can transition seamlessly between genres, sometimes in the same song, without any loss to the exquisite quality of her music. Courtney was so good on AGT that Simon Cowell signed her to his Syco/Arista records (Sony Music) label and Courtney has been trying for more than a year to release her debut album of original music but, like everything else, it has been delayed repeatedly by the Covid situation. Courtney has a following of millions from virtually every part of the world and when her album drops it will be epic. Her creativity is off the charts and any cover she sings will be entirely different than the original. Courtney will only do a cover if she has her own take on how a song could or should be sung. She never mimics anyone. So glad you listened to the original of this song first, because it will only make what Courtney has done to it that much more amazing. You mentioned 'Old Town Road'. Wait until you see what she has done with that. Inevitably, what she produces consistently blows the original out of the water. As you hear more of Courtney and what she can do musically, you'll see why those of us who follow her consider her to be the best thing that's happened to music in decades. A true voice of a lifetime on her way to mega-stardom. Since Courtney sang exclusively classic rock from the 60's and 70's while on AGT, many viewed her strictly as a rocker. As a result, Courtney released a four cover set in 2019 intended to specifically highlight her vocal versatility as well as to show how her style of passion and emotion and intensity, not seen in music for ages, translates to current music. This cover of 'Sucker' was one of those four. As a result, you'll see a number of different genres in these covers. The links below are direct to the remaining three covers . I've also put the link to her AGT audition ( a must see for every Courtney fan) and her second performance on AGT so you can see how Courtney can totally dominate a full stage. Can't wait to hear you react to more Courtney. great reply. Now, as I recall her father saying that he doesn't know where the inspiration came from for her to watch those legends. That is a true statement, but he said she loved singing after she sang the song "Over the Rainbow". How, in 2018 or even when she was 12 be inspired by the legends that she claims to be her idols when this generation doesn't even know or listen to them...? Replying to a fan about who she'd like to meet, that most of her idols are "gone" like passed away except like Tina Turner and Pink... Where in the world can go right now, right now and ask a girl or boy age say 12-16 about any of these people from the 60's -70's? where? I asked at least 5 yesterday and they were like who? Okay... so what is unique that is mind blowing not the fact the there's this rebirth of music here, because if you know music it's a complicated thing... Say like Mozart. Prodigy right? At such an age to write complicated music perfectly considered unheard of, no one's done it... We look at Mozart and go that's not music... The hell it isn't. Even Randy Rhodes liked Mozart. If you know who Randy Rhodes is... so, i sit here and I watch her and I listen to her talk to people and i'm looking for certain things. Ok one, she's playing an old tune in the Back ground like i believe it was a 40's song, but i can't remember what it was now, should have written it down... then her favorite all time singer is Little Richard... What? This guys reaction blows my mind, because any musician today could have done music from the Past any of them, remakes which some have only to destroy the damn song... which is why music is complicated in it's own way...so it's not like she goes oh, i like that music, i'll sing that... Na! Dude that's not how music works from generation to generation. Like Celene Dion w/Back in Black by AC/DC horrible right, but her ballads are awesome right? Ok, now this girl a true prodigy why? She can take any song from any genre and bam! make it fit! These people are rare... there is talent, and then there is a "Prodigy". Janis sounding yes, but she sounds more like Linda Perry more than she does Janis Joplin. Her moves yes of James Brown, Little Richard, Tina Turner shake going on there.... to enjoy and listen to the greats and actually like is something else. No, teen or younger or even the today's generation of adults don't like or listen to that, so i keep hearing original. Well, not true. She's got something from the past that hasn't been seen or done in over nearly what 40-50 years? No, one not even herself she even said doesn't know why she likes their music and loves their stories and C'mon for that age? Dude she started at 8, entered UK Voice kids @12 i mean there isn't enough time to soak all that complexity into what she does. Natural, like she's been doing it for 30 years, and a voice so developed and controlled including her breathing is unheard of!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you see where I'm going w/this. Is she a Janis Reborn? No, I don't think so... someone further in time, because of what she likes. I'd say someone between 1949-1960. Now, you're thinking that wouldn't explain the woodstock look. Oh, yes it would... the music that was developing between those times was actually creating the 1970's like Jimmy Hendrix... the music started to swing to that style out of the 50's but people wanted to be more free in dancing so they just did what ever, like yes indeed Elvis, the shaking of the legs and hips and so on... After watching her so much I really see a James Brown, she loves the suits. Hmmm... James brown, always wore suits and did the knee thing and the fast feet work... Tina Turner... that really fast shake she does time to time... well, that was back in the 50's and maybe even the late 40's from how they danced in the 20's... because of the "Swing Jazz." And there is an old saying that people like us who really love "music" no matter the genre as long as it's "real" music Rock and Roll will never Die. And it's true... It has a soul our Soul. Like Mozart. His shit is the shit... Courtney Hadwin the Mozart of our time. i can't even believe I'm seeing it and hearing it... I've heard all her covers that range from so many genres and making it true music, is unheard of... that's why they don't like a lot of stars transition from one genre to another, because that special gift to do it it's not there... She has it... This was someone born far in the Past is Courtney Hadwin going out there and saying this is music...................... hear me roar!

@@vincentboyd6165 great comment. 2 in the morning here, so I’ll just reply briefly and then come back with more later. Courtney was first inspired to sing when she heard Connie Talbott on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ in 2007. That would have made Courtney somewhere between 2-3 years old. It was from that point that she knew what she wanted to do with her life. ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ came from that. It’s the song Connie Talbott sang on BGT. As to the love of the style and era of music that she does, her Vocal Coach, Julie Miles, recommended a song from Janis Joplin. Courtney went home, looked it up on KZbin and one video led to another and so on and Courtney was hooked. She has said that she loves music of that style and from that era because she can feel it more. It’s about passion and emotion and not about auto tune and perfection. Courtney is the voice of a lifetime. I have never heard anyone that can grab a listener by the heart and soul like she can when she sings. Courtney may only be 16, but I don’t thing there is another singer of any age, living or dead, that belongs on the same stage as her and she only continues to get better. We are the lucky ones that are around at the same time as she is and get the joy of hearing her sing.

@@edwarddevogelear4432 i agree, and i heard her say that. But, for her to understand and "like" that kind of music is unheard of, as she eve explained her peers don't get her of the music she sings or listens to. Which she listens to many genre it seems by her tik tok videos, but to soak up all that complexity in music even now at 16 is unheard of. To say to be a Rock Star, because she can feel the music in her, that is unique from a young person when young people just want to sing for the fame or what have you. It's like she says a different person, it's not that she's a different person is that she can feel the music in her body, and that's what good music does of any genre. i kind of wish someone would hint to her Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Heart for female Rock or even Linda Perry, cause in that Rock female group it don't get better than that. She's is Prodigy no doubt about it.

The first time I saw Courtney was on America's Got Talent but I also loved her performance a year earlier on The Voice Kids UK singing 'Nutbush City Limits'. That was a fun performance to watch from 12 year old Courtney. I loved the clip of John Belushi and Joe Cocker. Yes Courtney has the soul and some spastic moves like Joe but she's young and working on her dance moves lol. Btw, Joe Cocker was not upset by John's imitation of him. Joe Cocker said once that he thought John was lip syncing because it sounded so good. He also said..."I always found it quite amusing," he told the Broward-Palm Beach New Times in 2012. The people that were upset were those that thought Joe Cocker had some illness and that's why he moved like that and they thought John Belushi was making fun of that. I'm 63 years old and I remember watching that episode of SNL when it first appeared. Lot's of rumors back in the day of Joe Cocker spastics moves being caused by either an illness or a substance abuse issue. We didn't have the internet to check facts. Joe said that he didn't know how else to get the music out and that's why he moved like that. Here is an article that explains it and it's also where I got the quotes from. Thanks for a great reaction. I subbed because of your Angelina reactions but I'm liking your other reactions just as much. ultimateclassicrock.com/joe-cocker-john-belushi/

@@HistoryBuff Just a little tidbit from Courtney herself. She said when she goes on stage to perform, she has a general idea of how she wants to, but once the music starts she just moves to the music. Kind of like a soloist playing a lead and improvises. They know their goto licks but whatever they're feeling is what comes out at the moment. She definitely has certain moves she repeats a lot in different AGT and The Voice kids covers she did in the past. But she just goes off in the moment. Haven't seen her on a big enough stage since those talent shows. These Cover Session video contained her in that small area. I'm curious how she will do it today on stage. Hope she doesn't lose the insanity when she gets back on stage. Love that raw energy she shows.

Excellent reaction, HB, because it has Courtney, your thoughtful comments, Courtney, the original version to compare, Courtney, deft awareness of 'not from this era', and, did I mention Courtney, the so very different unicorn (UniCourtz) who is the greatest new entertainer on the planet? You mentioned her extraordinary range, measured by an expert online to be wider than most celebrity singers, with the notable exception of Mariah Carey?! Of course no one today, as you noticed, has a gritty, powerful voice like Courtney's. Or the moves--give her a bigger stage and watch her own it. Seriously, I have seen virtually every Courtney Hadwin reaction video, and it often has been suggested that the original of her covers be heard first so her creativity and passionate delivery can be fully appreciated. Courtney does not just copy a song--she massages and re-engineers it into something new and better IMO. You are the very first to actually play the original, then Courtney's version. Well done! Other commenters are giving you much of the good information about Courtney with suggestions. Since you must be familiar with Old Town Road, that would be an excellent choice for the original and then Courtney's version back-to-back. I predict amazement....

This is a great reaction thank you for posting the Jonas Brothers version as I had never heard of them before and I have to say that if I had heard this on the radio I would have turned it off after a minute, I did not like the voice at all and the video was ridiculous although I know the young people like that sort of thing these days, I am a 78 year old Australian man. On the other hand I have been following Courtney for the past few months having discovered her AGT performances on Facebook and have become a devoted fan. I was totally blown away by this incredible performance showing Courtney's amazing voice and musical genius, she was just 14 when she recorded this and I firmly believe that she is destined to be a world super star, she is way out in front of all the rest in a class of her own. I look forward to more of your reactions on Courtney.

That's how I would love to see and hear all reaction videos. There's so much to comment here because of how thorough you were in this video. Everytime comment you made brought up something for me to add to. But, if I do, then this would be forever long. And I do that already. So I'll try to keep it simple. Darien already gave a good synopsis. I won't repeat that. Your observations about a number of things were spot on about Courtney and you didn't even start her video yet. She got into 60's and 70's artist watching them on KZbin when she was around 11. James Brown, Little Richard, Rolland Stones, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, etc. She has been compared with her movements you mention to Joe Cocker and also, Janis, Mick Jagger and Axl Rose, because of how active she is. I agree about her style being new to us, even us 60's and 70's kids. We would have said the same about her then too. You pretty much saw everything her fans see in one sitting. Very perceptive. And you know much about older school artists. I think you may have seen one of her AGT performances. When you said crazy pants her cover of "Born to be wild" came to mind with her going nuts on stage. She was awesome on that whole show. And went full all out on there. Like I said, so many things to hit on with your reaction, but others will take care of it. I'll mention, you will want to watch her AGT Audition early on. That video kzbin.info/www/bejne/mmaceWOLrc2sl7s is what got her recognized in 2018 world wide. I mean it went mega viral so fast, (30 million in the 1st week) and she was the hottest thing for well over a year on KZbin. She got signed right away by Syco along with Sony/Arista Records and was sent to Sweden and London for writing and recording. She once let us hear one those recordings from Sweden, a cover by an artist named Miss Li "Love Hurts" NOT the Nazareth song.

Great reaction. If you haven't done it yet, you should check out her audition on America's Got Talent. Everyone was shocked (including me) at first, but she quickly won everyone over. I saw an interview where she said she loses herself in the music. She was really shy, but when she started singing, she just let the music move her, and Heidi gives the look that a lot were asking in the comments afterward. Some people thought she was having a seizure. Anyway, loved all her stuff on AGT (and the original she did on AGT: Champions) and all 4 of the songs in the Cover Session, but not too keen on the stuff she's put out on Instagram and Tik Tok.

Joe Cocker was a stylist when I met him at a bar on the upper westside of manhatten, around 6pm only the owner, his manager myself and my A&R friend were there he did a full song warm up even though he would not be on till much later. No holding back 5 feet away, it was great. Right after finishing he went over to the booth behind us and started talking business with his mgr cool calm and colllcted. BTW in his own words John's impression “rather amusing”:. He did tone down after seening YT vids of himself.

I think it's important, whether you like it or not, to give proper respect to an original artist. Especially if they wrote the song (which usually isn't the case in modern pop music, but still). A lot of time, talent and investment goes into that. For a cover artist to come along and jazz it up, to me is like going to an art museum and adding a touch of pink to various paintings. Doesn't take much relative effort.

@@HistoryBuff hi HB I wasn’t being disrespectful to the artists or the lyrics , it’s more to do with the genre they created it for , Tacky pop music has very little appeal to me, just like some ppl only like classical music and hate heavy metal, All I meant was she has taken the song , reworked , reinvented, restyled it into something amazing and more appealing to a different genre .

You don't immediately pick up the Joplin totally channeling on her other stuff? I've seen all her stuff on YT but this is new and different. This is cool. Think more along the lines of the female power singers back when. Benatar etc. Cool look since she matured more. Stage performance is now professional. Like how she old school combo with a modern-ed up way. "Fusion" is what the endeavor was once called. There were lots of fusion pieces in the 90s.

Her tone is so unique, she's got power and rasp an incredibly fast vibrato! A very gifted singer-songwriting, musician who plays six instruments. Her life performances are legendary! I'd recommend reacting to Am I The One, live at Paradiso and Caught Out In The Rain, live at Royal Albert Hall. She also does some incredible covers of Blues standards with her own band and with Joe Bonamassa.

well, she stated that in UK Voice kids, that she watched James Brown, Janis Joplin and Tina Turner. she was only 12 so if she started like her dad said around what was it 8 i believe. What boggles my mind for someone her age to even like James Brown, Janis Joplin, Little Richard and to watch them all the time like she does... You don't hear them on the radio, or anywhere unless you specifically look for them on You Tube... Her Dad even said he doesn't know... Hmmmm.... Ask any child at that age who is James Brown or mentioned above... I have, answer: Who?... so her parents don't even listen to those people, her Dad keep saying he doesn't know... she just picked it up. What? She knows who Britney is she knows who Pink is she know who Lady Gaga is, but every time she performed even at 8 she did songs of the legends... That's why her peers didn't get her, they don't know that music, they don't understand that music, they don't listen to that music... so, she's a Prodigy like Mozart. You just don't listen to these legends, because generation to generation don't work like that. it's not new music it's old, very old music, but the thing about what people don't understand is that was "music" born from the past that made you feel and appreciate real music... she certainly Rock R&B and I hope it continues. Because, right now she's the only one and certainly a Prodigy.

It's kinda like this. You are a painter. You spend a lot of time and resources making a painting. You have to figure out the subject matter, the medium you're using, the message you're sending, etc. It takes you months to complete and with it, comes the constant worry of whether others would appreciate it. You finally release it and then they do. In fact, it ends up in a museum. Not everyone appreciates it, but there it is. Then, one day, a girl walks in and adds a few swipes of pink, throws some glitter on it and walks away. Is it improved? Some may say yes. But I think it's pretty disrespectful to say they did a much better job than the original artist. These guys spent weeks in the studio. Writing the music, playing their instruments, investing in it. She walks in, grabs a mic, performs some karaoke and drops it.
