He has been out of the England set up for long periods and during those gaps we've seen the likes of Itoje etc come in and do great things... England has quite an abundance of second row/back rows so, I'd say hes appreciated, just not head an shoulders ahead of anyone else..

Excellent highlight reel. People are always whinging that he is just hitting tiny half backs late. The fact is that he is already committed and that it’s his job to put these key decisions makers in doubt and on edge. This is the best video on him I have seen

The most impressive piece of play I've seen from Lawes is when he released Chris Ashton for THAT 2010 try against Australia. When England got the turnover on their own line and Youngs breaks and passes to Lawes it would have been so easy for Lawes to run it into touch or just go for the safe ruck/maul. But he straightened up, made ground, sucked in two Australians, one of whom was the winger who should have been covering Ashton and timed his pass to Ashton beautifully. Remember, he'd only won his first senior cap the previous Autumn. Ashton scored the spectacular try, but it was largely down to Lawes.
@catchmeifyoucan1807

Absolutely spot on! Everyone remembers the Ashton try, which was spectacular no doubt, but it was Youngs and then Lawes who was the chief architect behind that try

One of the great things about Lawes is his body position after he's made these massive tackles - he's released and on his feet challenging for the ball or he's in a position to chase down where the ball has been offloaded to and make another tackle

A lot of his hits are on 9/10 or another light player (winger or fullbacks). And a lot are late. I know it is his style and i know that he is good in other things. But, from my view, this guy got a lack of bravery. It is easy for a guy of this size to hit hard skinny guys. I know that it is a tactical mouvement to harass the 10, but still, i find it very cheap.
@tomlane6590
@tomlane6590 3 жыл бұрын
Rubbish. Reason you don't see other plays putting such big hits on 9/10 is because they can't get close to them. Courtney does and more importantly gets his timing right pretty much every time.
@jonnybaynham1689
@jonnybaynham1689 Жыл бұрын
Shows you don't watch much rugby then. A lot of the highlights are lighter players because lighter players go flying and that's more entertaining in highlight reels. But the man puts in more graft than most players in full games, and often ends up as the last man to make a tackle because he runs harder than others. Just against the Boks for the Lions he took down Nche, Etzebeth, Kolisi down regularly
@dekenba6482

King of the late tackle. In nearly every instance, the ball has been passed, so his tackle is of no use. I wouldn't be surprised to see him sent off against Wales, if he plays.
