If you would please, a simple definition of the phrase that kept coming up: "a stabilized approach." Also, what's the glide ratio on the MXL-2, about 8:1 ? So , if you throttle back at about 1.5 miles (at 1,000 ft altitude, and without the slip), you'd expect to hit the threshold? Thanks, love the vids!
@CourtneyTakesFlight2 жыл бұрын
The glide ratio/distance varies depending on drag, headwinds and so on. As you start to descent, you're making judgement call right there for the angle/speed you need to hit that touchdown point for that particular landing. With practice you will easily use muscle memory to get the airplane in the right spot/angle/speed. From the FAA: A pilot is flying a stabilized approach when he or she establishes and maintains a constant angle glidepath towards a predetermined point on the landing runway. Every runway is unique, but a commonly referenced optimum glidepath follows the “3:1” principle.
@commentatron2 жыл бұрын
@@CourtneyTakesFlight Is a 'non-stabilized approach' a marker that you've got something figured wrong (and should consider going around)?
@jimbennett279510 ай бұрын
She can't even judge her slip. She is still a beginner lol
@jimbennett279510 ай бұрын
@@CourtneyTakesFlight OMG hello anybody home? The glide ratio of your plane is already predetermined when they built it. Check your manual. Unbelievable
@aeroplod4 ай бұрын
@@commentatronA stabilised approach is to be achieved on final or it isn't stabilised. Correct airspeed, descent rate, flap setting etc are as required. Otherwise it is not stabilised and the standard practice is go around. However in a light aircraft, turning sharply onto the runway is a good skill to perfect as an engine failure solution.

Hi Coutney - Great Vid 👌 I am a wannabee (maybe a Gonnabee) Maybe you can answer me, some questions If I sell my suburban house, I wanna move to the country side and buy a house with some farmland How long / short distance is required to land / take off in a UL One of the grassfields is 880 ft long and 225 ft wide - do you think this could work - for the distances ?
@CourtneyTakesFlight Жыл бұрын
Yes, you will have enough distance, but concern yourself with obstacles beyond your property. Are there tall trees? Powerlines? Buildings? Figure those in your plans.

👍Thank you very much for answering me - it a field strip with threes along one long side, and the end and other longside has a steep slope to the beach - so threes provides the cover for wind, and no further obstacles From my heart I wish you Blues skies and happy landings 💙🤍 @@CourtneyTakesFlight
