Then met the following morning at a local park to go on a hike together. I packed a quick breakfast for us both in my backpack and we sat by the lake overlook on a break eating and chatting. IF a woman thinks she is 'above' art, activities you're into and nature... Move on. There is SO much more to life (and relationships..) than nightclubbing and shopping.

As a guy... I think this is fantastic... because any woman who believes they are 'above' a specific restaurant is not someone I'd be interested in. Just like ladies go on first dates with a ‘let’s see what happens’ type of attitude, men should have that same approach, and if that’s the case, why spend $300 on someone you don’t even know yet? That type of date is for someone you’re already invested in.
@thorstenb.163 Жыл бұрын
If you do not already know each other, the first date should be short and public (e.g. coffee, cake, icecream) to check for initial compatibility. If it turns out that you have nothing in common, you don't have to suffer for long and you don't waste time and money. The second date should be an activity, because people are more authentic when engaged in sth. and a shared activity helps with a first bond. (if you are hungry afterwards, you can extend the date e.g. with a picknick). The third date should be the first dinner date, when you are already sure that you have some chemistry, similar values, compatible goals and lifestyle.

Coffee dates are a great way to start. When you date a lot, coffee dates are better. I sometimes get a first date every week, so always eating out isn't the best thing. You lose money, gain weight, etc. And a lot of it ends with no chemistry. This is why you go on a coffee date: * It's inexpensive. Low risk. You have each other's undivided attention. * If there's no chemistry, you can call it a day. If there is chemistry, ask, "Are you hungry? I know a place down the street." Then you can go to dinner.
@Swearengen1980 Жыл бұрын
This is why I do parks as a first date. I hate sitting across the table forced to stare at someone. Get out in nature, being active helps relax the atmosphere, more scenery can offer opportunities for different conversation, and not a dime spent (unless it's a state park). I don't date city girls who are hate going outside, so it's always good. And I have the same situation, after an walk if it's going well, then I'll suggest getting something to eat. Likewise I can go on first dates quite often, so it's rare for me to do a restaurant for those same reasons.

Before I watch the entire video: it's very interesting for me as a European (German) to observe differences between here and the US. My first thought after reading the title was: *Go wherever YOU want to go for a date and simply feel good!* Because one: if she cancels the date last minute you can still go to that place, have a good time (maybe meeting someone unexpected there) and simply enjoy the evening/ afternoon! And second: if she doesn't like the place that you do like ... maybe it's the first sign (flag) that your taste differs massively. And maybe this is not worth pursuing anyways. If she is cool and really wants to meet you, she's going to suggest somewhere else. And with that second option you get another hint if your taste matches. If not - don't bother and move on with your life!

I took my wife on our first date on a full one hour, 50 mile drive to a remote state-owned arboretum and we walked all the trails and talked within the confines of the arboretum. She loved it. Super pretty and quiet in springtime with everything in bloom. I also got lucky as I learned that gardening was a favorite hobby of hers. Just let her know where you are going ahead of time so that she can dress appropriately. You don't want her to open the door wearing heels when you need her to be wearing sneakers. Always have a backup plan. Maybe she doesn't like Red Lobster because she has a shellfish allergy, so have another place already picked out once you learn that. You intended to do an outdoor activity, but it ended up pouring rain, plan for a backup ahead of time. Always have a Plan B for a first date.

When I was a single man, I used to regularly go on ice cream dates. Is it low effort? Maybe, but it is a first date, which is more or less a funnel for who you might want to go on a second date or further with. I would put bowling in the "it depends" category. If your date enjoys bowling, that would be a plus. It's a shared activity, which can draw you closer, and that's also a plus. Another plus is that it's easy to end the date early if you find that you're not really enjoying each other's company. In the minus column, bowling alleys are noisy; they're open spaces that may leave you feeling like you're in something of a fishbowl; most have a bar, and alcohol and first dates aren't a great combination; a woman who dressed to impress you may find that her attire isn't comfortable for bowling (so don't make bowling a last-minute surprise!); and if you're both really competitive, bowling may backfire.

As a woman, I prefer these simple dates for a first date. You’re getting to know each other and it’s better to keep the first date short so you can grow the relationship slowly. It offers a quick exit if the vibe isn’t there. Everyone on these apps/dating like you’re going through a fast food drive thru is cringey. I will say, women like a man taking the lead, planning, and being mindful that location is reasonably in-between each other. It makes us feel cared for. High value women don’t appreciate sexting early either. If that is what you’re after, don’t pick the women on apps indicating they want a relationship. The ones who want flings will make that clear. If a man wants to split the 1st date, I use that as an indicator he isn’t interested in a 2nd and I don’t entertain proceeding if he asks. Just a gut feel.

You're doing a great job by giving YOUR perspective and at the same time holding space for other people's take on whatever it is your touching on. Please don't stop being yourself. I like the way Courtney divides the list into categories for which she disagrees or agrees. I grew up in a small town of rural AZ, and many of those types of communities don't have expensive restaurants. A more common "good first date" option would be a local mom-and-pop restaurant like a popular Mexican American restaurant revered locally. When I lived in North FL, Waffle House was often the only "restaurant" open after a major hurricane had gone by. I remember a hurricane hit Tallahassee and much of the city closer to the Gulf had the lights go out with fallen debris, broken power lines, smashed windows, etc. In the far nothern side of the city, the electricity was still on - and Waffle House was the only restaurant open with a ridiculously long line circling the building into the parking lot. There are many women in the FL seaside communities who also prefer sea food and actively do salt water fishing along the Gulf. A local mom-and-pop shop with red snapper in-season would bring out the enthusiasm for some of them. I think the choice also comes down to compatibility, socieconomic background and expectations, cultural context, etc. I realize Courtney is from the Midwest. When I was back at Notre Dame last spring, I met women from the ND/SMC community who I know would truly enjoy a major home game for ND football or basketball or soccer. ND is only about 90 miles from Toledo, OH. Most of them are from the Midwest or East Coast. The list reminds me of a set of episodes for "Two and a Half Men" where Charlie's girlfriend, Mia, tries to get him to eliminate meat and alcohol from his diet while insisting on daily exercise. Charlie half-heartedly agrees but winds up lying about it. Then they get into a fierce argument on a dinner date when Mia objects to his favorite meat entrees with alcohol at the very high-end restaurant. They break up then Charlie meets his "dream girl" who was Mia's roommate - a woman who enjoys baby back ribs, hard liquor, and gambling like Charlie - lol. It comes down to compatibility. I am surprised night clubs are not recommended. They do vary such that there are night clubs with mini concerts where tables are separated out where couples can talk. That was where I went on a first date with a woman I met from FSU at the gym - a blonde southern belle. I went on a first date with another woman from my Catholic Church who suggested a simple mom-and-pop type of restaurant. Here in Phoenix, AZ, Top Golf is very popular. The list is truly subjective.

I think you nailed it, Courtney. Loud places like nightclubs are not good places to have a first date since you want to chat with with your date to get to know them. Same reason a movie is a bad first date. I think getting a coffee or similar beverage is a perfect first date since it allows you to relax and have a nice conversation, and if it really goes well, you could extend the date to something like a walk in a park or through a shopping mall. A sporting event would be a great first date if you both like the same team.

And, the fact that she was dressed the way she was should tell you that she's not a lady and she's not worthy of even the Cheesecake Factory, she's lucky to get Taco Bell if not hot dogs from Sunoco. Women like her will go to your house if you are the kind of guy that gets her flowing into the right emotions. You don't need to waste your money on trash because that stuff is free and it's everywhere

As a woman, I’d love a coffee date! Even though I don’t really drink coffee, I could order a tea. My husband took me to subway for our first date! It was affordable and easy. Gave us a chance to enjoy a couple subs and good conversation. Of course, we were already friends before we started dating, so that definitely played into things. This being said, a first date should be easy and fun! It’s a first date! It’s not a life or death final exam! Coffee dates, followed up with a walk in a park is perfect!!

I always think the company is way more important than the venue. A girl I really liked loved clubbing, I am uncomfortable in that environment but I said I would go clubbing if she wanted to, as long as I was with her. She was so chuffed that I would do that for her, but said she didn't care where we went, as long as she could be with me and enjoy my company.We had an amazing evening.

So I dated a vegan and she was up for anywhere. I could have brought her to a steakhouse and she would have rolled with it. She would have ordered a special order but I actually took her to a restaurant that I had never been to on her suggestion which sounds odd but she and I were talking about where a vegan can find a good meal and she mentioned a restaurant that I had never been to that was just a few blocks from my office so that's where we went. We talked until they had to close and yes I ended up marrying her. That's the thing about dates and first dates. It doesn't matter where you go just whether or not you two vibe when you get there. Her first indication that we were clicking was that we talked all evening and she was normally so shy. She was astonished that we shut the place down when she had a hard time making small talk at family functions. You can take a woman to Chipotle and if you two vibe over your burritos then you'll need nothing but you two to have a good time. And you can have a great time at any of those restaurants. I am not sure if a movie is a good idea even if it's dinner and a movie because that puts a constraint on the date. The first date I had that lead to marriage would've been ruined or not been as impactful if we had to stop talking to catch a movie. So yeah dinner and conversation are what's called for. Women getting their noses bent out if shape turning them up at so many options is a recipe for disaster.

Gentlemen, the best place for a first date is a coffee shop. It's inexpensive, and if you don't like her, you'll save money by not offering her dinner. IF you do decide to take her to a restaurant, get there 20 minutes early. Get a seat at the bar if you can. Tell the server, "I'm meeting someone here today. Please make sure you split the check no matter what she says." Preemptively split the check to save yourself the awkwardness. You're not running a charity. Save your money for more important things. If she's the right person for you, going half on dinner is the least of anyone's concern.

A question for the ladies who are picky on first dates: What have you done to earn you a first date at a high end restaurant as opposed to a lower end type of venue? Basically, if a guy wants to go to a high end place on a first date, that’s his decision. But generally for a first date, keeping it simple and somewhat inexpensive is the best way to go. If she wins the guy over after the first date, then the guy can and should go better for future dates.
@PresTeddy1901 Жыл бұрын
Two simple rules for choosing a first-date dinner spot. 1 Avoid fast food restaurants and really high-end fancy places. 2 Check to see if the girl has any food or dietary restrictions and avoid places that don't have any options for her. Everything else is pretty much fair game. I have never not had a girl who didn't genuinely like the places I've chosen as long I've stuck with those rules.
@MrSnitchley Жыл бұрын
As a guy, I would never take a date to any of these places regardless if it was our first date or 100th. It's not a matter of cost or fanciness of any of these restaurants. It's the fact that they're homogenized chains. Unless you're in the most podunk town in the world, you can find a local eatery that's equal in quality to Applebee's, but it feels more special, especially if your date has never been there. And you get bonus points if it's someplace foreign/ethnic because that demonstrates you have broad tastes and won't want burgers or pizza every night. Look at it this way: a ramen or Thai restaurant costs the same as Chili's, but it makes you look more sophisticated. Why wouldn't you want to present that on a first date?
@aliadeeb6859 Жыл бұрын
It's not impossible to both ignore the list, and choose a great place to eat at the same time that is acceptable to these people. Find a sit down restaurant like olive garden(I know that's on the list) but isn't a national chain. I took my ex girlfriend to a place called Mama Corollas and it wasn't any more expensive that olive garden would have been and it was a nice Italian place. Basically find a restaurant that isn't a chain but doesn't have but one location. Doesn't have to be super fancy. Olive garden or mama Corollas in broad ripple, IN: it will be $20/entre and 8.50 for a glass of wine (I don't drink) so that's $60 after tip chain or not. But for a first date, anything on the list is fine. Let them build their way up and you will do the same.

Realistically some of these options could easily be consolidated, I mean Starbucks and coffee dates are basically one and the same, Chipotle and fast food, Chili’s and Applebees. My first date with my ex girlfriend was a local Mexican restaurant, followed by Starbucks, and some walking around, and I drove near an hour to the date (she couldn’t drive, health reasons). The pint is that there’s a difference between not wanting to go to that location verses refusing to go anywhere because of social media. My opinion, too many are looking at what other people are doing on social media and wanting to keep up with the Jones’s or to busy “starring in their own movie”.

I don't understand why some people do not like coffee dates, I personally enjoy them and they have been some of the best dates I have ever had. It is never about the coffee itselt, but getting to know the other person and enjoying each others company. Most of my dates started like a Coffe date, but all of the sudden evolved into a long walk along the Canal, a park, or exploring the city's port and its art galaries. It was the time spend together and the conversations what made the date valuable. All of the sudden, a 50 minutes coffee date can transform into a 5 or 6 hours conversation. That is how I met my girlfriend, and it has been one of the best conversations I have ever had.

By the way, I’ve always noticed lately when women match with me on Hinge, they always make me start the conversation instead of replying to the original message I sent to initiate contact. From there, I send a follow up message either regarding my first message or something else on her page. After that I get ghosted. Is it really necessary to message a woman after she matched with me on Hinge, but did not reply to the message I sent before she matched with me or should I wait a while to see if she replies herself?

You should think about this as an investment in the future. Your time is important, and if a woman doesn't SHOW interest... she isn't interested. Don't chase her, as if you begin by chasing her... you will always be chasing her. That doesn't mean don't make the first move. But if she doesn't respond to you, she is just enjoying your interest, not YOU. A followup is OK, IF you think there is something special about her OTHER THAN HER LOOKS, because if she isn't responding, and she is good looking... OTHER GUYS SHE LIKES, also think the same thing, and she is just using you for her feeling of being desired. Nothing to do with you.

Literally 90-95% of all my first dates fell into 3 of these: bars for just drinks (only did that once), and mostly coffee or ice cream/froyo dates. One of the best first dates I went on was a 3 hour coffee date. It doesn't need to be fancy for the date to be good. I'd almost go so far as to say that "activity" dates should almost be 2nd and on and not on the first date since you may be too fixated on the activity and not focusing on each other and the conversation itself.

A first date is mainly about finding a comfortable place to have a conversation. I’ve done walks with my dog at some nice local parks. We’ll usually grab a coffee or something tasty to eat from a local pastry shop and stroll the river trails. If everything is going good then we might hit a nice dinner or bar in the downtown area or save that idea for the next one. Don’t waste your time on people with low interest and choose those who choose you!

The one thing that everyone is forgetting on this is that context matters. It is a different story if I have a history with the woman that I asked out (i.e. we work together, go to the same school, attend the same church etc...) versus someone that I just met online. If I am asking someone out that I have known for some time and we got to the point that I am asking her out then I am going to plan out a date and of course most of that list will be out the door. However, if we met online I am only doing a coffee, ice cream, or drinks date. That protects both individuals from any awkward moments, keeps safety upfront, and protects the man from spending money on someone that is just out for a free meal. The only definite no go's for me on a first date regardless of the situation are Church, all the diners, fast food places, the buffet, and of course. Everything else is pretty much good to go, and if a woman has a problem with any of the others she is not worthy of going out with you.

I've been following Courtney for a while now and more times than not, I respectfully disagree with her. However lately she's been killing it and I've been agreeing with her. Hell I think I fell in love with her when she said "Red Lobster isn't cheap!". Courtney was adorable in this! Anyhoo, I have two takes on this: 1. Dudes, you should ABSOLUTELY use this list to vet out your next girl. Literally print out this list and throw a dart at it and take your "date" there. If she's like "ew I don't go there", BOOM! You just dodged a bullet. Remember what I always say: if a woman is physically attracted to you, she'll go anywhere and do anything for, and with you. You can invite her to a graveyard at 2am to drink Walmart vodka and she will go if she thinks yer hot. Which leads me into #2: The women that "made this list", will definitely end up alone and sad, and with a bunch of cats. Not to mention, I bet you my bank account, that the women that made this list went to a majority of these places with "Chad", he took her home, "had fun" with her, then ghosted her. So now these girls are all "anti" these places because it reminds them of Chad using them. Lastly hypergamy have taught these women that just because they "exist" they deserve a top 5% man, and with that top 5% dates. They don't understand they have little to no value past their youth and beauty. They should be thankful to get a taco from taco Tuesday at Taco Bell. 🎤👇

I am so anti-smoking. I can’t even tell you having lost my mom who smoked almost her entire life. It was hard to watch her health get worse over about 14 years. Should the man always be the one who chooses the place for the first date? To make the woman feel more comfortable would it be reasonable to ask her where she would like to go? I think I know the answer to that, but I just thought I’d ask. Your ability to speak, so clearly is truly a joy to listen to. Your husband is a very, very lucky man.
