I work in a salt spa! And halotherapy sessions aren’t expensive, here it’s around $80 for an hour. It’s super amazing for stress and anxiety and so many health issues, mainly pertaining to respiratory health. I got the message behind all the medicine: Since it's called "The Empathy Room", this hotel is a piece of art that is made to shock and make wealthy people think a little about the world's problems instead of their own. I know it's difficult to understand the logic but staying in this room is like paying to have a piece of art for a day so that's way is so expensive, in my opinion (interior designer). The fact that is so exclusive also helps to keep the price so high. Hope this helps to get an idea of why rich people choose these ridiculous stuff.

My personal theory on why rich stuff is butt-ugly is this. Nice things used to take money to own. Rich people owned them. Expensiveness was associated with good taste. Less well-off people wanted to have nice things. They discovered easier, less expensive ways to make them. Suddenly, things like hardwood and marble weren’t so special because they could be convincingly faked or were available to the upper middle class. Suddenly, the rich needed to do something else to be special. The only things left that hadn’t been copied and were exclusive to the rich price range were things no one would want. i work in holistic healing actually and my job has a big salt lounge, he just explained it really poorly :( the himalayan salt lining the walls is for aura and relaxation. the salt that comes into the room is medical grade salt and it’s supposed to aid specifically with asthma along with allergies and opening the sinuses. it’s also very good for the skin if you have eczema or psoriasis or just plain old itchy or dry skin. i’ve totally noticed a difference in my skin the days i deal with cleaning the salt lounge more often. totally recommend trying one if you have an opportunity to, they’re super cool!

Art student here so the hotel is Damien Hirst inspired so it’s made up of all his art pieces, the medicine stuff the sharks are all his art pieces that are worth millions. I’m my opinion he’s super over rated but it’s art I guess 🤷

I recognized it was Damian Hirst as well and until i saw some of his pieces in person I thought he was possibly over rated too, but it's better in person like Jackson Pollocks work. But some of Hirst's commercial work is taking the piss.

@@sineadgiblin2672 idk going to see art from a rich guy who killed like 900.000 animals for/in his edgy boy exhibitions doesn't seem like the best use of my time tbh. Besides that the messages he tries to deliver with his art seem flat and definitely not worth that much money not to mention the lives of that many animals.

I do agree with your point about the treatment of animals but I'm not going to boycott an exhibition just because he is part of it, wasn't the only artist there whose ideals I disagreed with. I'm not a big fan of the church but I still like Caravaggio and other religious art and architecture. I'm just of the opinion if you only ever expose yourself to things that totally align with your ideals, you end up in an echo chamber rather than being reminded of why you have those ideals. But to each their own, I try to be open minded with what art I see but that does mean I've seen a lot of crap art along with the surprisingly good stuff.

@@sineadgiblin2672 I see your point. I mean at the end of the day everybody makes the decision of what they wanna consume themselves and its good that way. Some of Hirsts earlier artworks I actually find genuinely compelling but still I personally draw the line at supporting artists who for example profit off animal cruelty or who's actions directly hurt marginalized people.
