Yes, indeed. I grew up hungry. My mom swallowed her pride got on food stamps for a little while. We were embarrassed as kids to pay with booklets of Monopoly looking money at the time. After getting groceries we were happy, thankful and humbled to have dinner as a family with what we had. Side note: Makes it worse. Even if the food _is_ expired, that's just the recommended _store_ shelf life. All of that "expired" food is likely perfectly fine and could be taken to shelters that accept expired food, where it will be used either that day or the next. I'm not usually one to virtue signal, but wasted food is one of the few things that gets my shoulders up. People are literally starving to death and it could _easily_ be fixed.

@@greghelmans9503 you’ll know by using three of your five senses. smell, taste and sight. the reason why there’s a sell by date is because most people don’t use their groceries as soon as they buy them. they usually sit for a few days, sometimes even longer. so it’s best to sell it as quickly as possible. that does not mean food bought after a sell by date is bad by any means unless it’s been an unreasonable amount of time. i’m not saying completely ignore an expiration / sell by date, but don’t doubt your capabilities as a living being. most beings are very much able to tell if something is inedible or going bad. unless there’s something to prohibit that, it’s all down to intellect. it’s sad that most people don’t understand food and furthermore, consumerism.

Australia has an expiry date and best by date. The expiry date tells when the food will likely spoil or go bad. A best by date explains when the date the food will be good by. That can help me understand sometimes too.

The “expired” food that he claims the grocery store sends him isn’t actually technically expired, it’s still edible, it’s just not fresh enough for the shelves anymore. If that’s truly the food that he’s getting then that food would honestly be better off being donated to a shelter or food bank or soup kitchen. And while I can thankfully afford to eat, as someone who regardless has to penny pinch for groceries, this kind of content honestly makes me so uncomfortable. I cannot imagine ever being okay with wasting so much when in my mind I’m just trying to constantly calculate how much it would all cost.

I remember a few years back ( on KZbin) creators were filling tubs full of milk and cereal for 🤪 funny 🤪bath videos. This wasting food content on tiktok makes me furious. I’m in a family of three me, my brother, and my father and my mother left my father years ago. And having one underpaid parent taking care of two kids is super hard. My father doesn’t get paid very often and when he does we can really only afford a weeks worth of food. Sometimes I barely get anything to eat in a day and seeing these rich “influencers” wasting perfectly good looking food makes me so mad because there are so many people starving out in this world and people are just wasting pounds of food that could feed billions of people in this world. I might add that most food that is “expired” is still safe to eat for a little bit (since the expiration date on many things is just a date the store has to sell it by) and can be donated to those who need it. There’s a program in my town that gives out food that passed its sell by date to anyone who signs up for the service.

Grocery store expired isn’t always inedible. My step dad used to go around to small businesses and grocery stores and get their “expired food” in mass quantities for free and have huge cookouts in poorer neighborhoods, and donate extra food to the families. (He’s an angel he even got clowns and face painters to volunteer to come in.) I love him so I’m bragging on him but the point is this “undisclosed company” could be donating that food!!! 😒
