Little FYI, the SA1 and 2 DLC is actually playable nowadays as it's been entirely preserved. You just need an adapter and some other stuff that basically emulates online services on a Dreamcast.

My favorite DLC has to be Sonic mania plus, Mighty and Ray's grand return, the encore mode with the levels having a slightly different level design and different theming of those levels, the swapping mechanic, I had tons of fun with this DLC.

There's other DLCs you didn't talk about like the Steam port of SA1 and how DXs additional content was locked as DLC, same with the Battle content of SA2 iirc and how the original game on Dreamcast locked kart racing content and menu themes behind DLC. Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing Transformed locked some characters and one track behind DLC, one of the characters including Metal Sonic.

11:36 There was also some Japanese-retailer exclusive DLCs that is based on the Sonic ambassador and Hololive VTuber, Inugami Korone. The DLC depended on which storefront you pre-ordered the game on. You'll either get a skin based on her design, a Koco skin based on her fanbase design, the ONLY SFX DLC (which replaces the SFX with her voice) or a physical acryllic stand. There's also a free Japan-exclusive football emote which basically idle animation.

Ray is actually pretty much directly modeled after the cape feather from Super Mario World, they control exactly the same They did make it a bit worse though by making it so that if you go off the top of the screen you roll back into a ball and can’t glide again until you touch the ground, which isn’t present in SMW and I honestly hate because it punishes learning the mechanic GHZ is the only zone I’m good at making use of it anyway though

SA2 actually had some kart racing tracks and characters as dlc, and it seems the characters were put into SA2 battle but not the race courses. Also you can actually play the SA1 DLC pretty easily if you have the steam version, because it comes bundled in with the SA mod manager. The costumes from SA2 are also in a mod, the dreamcast characters mod.

A lot of the DLC for Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 have been properly archived actually! There is a piece of Dreamcast homebrew software I know of that includes dozens upon dozens of saves, mini games, and dlc for Dreamcast titles, some of which being the dlc for the Adventure series. Very neat to be able to play, I'm unsure if any are lost to time however.

I mean... we did get Casino Night in Generations... but on the 3DS version 5:53 NO, Yoshi's Woolly World was released in 2015, Sonic Lost World was released in 2013 and the level is based on the "beach" levels in Yoshi's Story. 5:56 Wrong again, the eggs give you extra lives. In Yoshi's Island Zone you can farm 1-ups, the Zelda Zone you farm Flickies and other critters and in Nightmare Zone you farm Rings

You forgot to mention, the fuel to the controversy of the Super Sonic DLC in Forces was because the source code was in the base game (and available day 1). SEGA then decided to have it patched, to then ‘sell’ as DLC (when really it was just removing the patch)

DLC is great. Sonic Adventure was probably one of the first games to have dlc as we know it. Sonic 06 dlc is cool as I like the remixed levels and how it slightly improved the way each character plays, like I think sone move a bit faster than normal, or some abilities have been tweaked a little, so I think it does apply patches, or you could say its more of a pseudo patch as those changes did not apply to the base game? I'm not sure. Similarly for Unleashed, I like the new and remixed levels, and I think it also included a framerate patch. I also think it might have more day levels than night, and in fact more than most other Sonic games. But even the werehog levels were fun, mainly because of their platforming.

I wrote up a concept for if the Sonic Generations portion of SxS Gens got DLC. Here ya all go: Sonic X Shadow Generations: Sonic Generations Director’s Cut DLC Overview: When Sonic Generations first released, so many people wanted more to the game and asked for DLC. Unfortunately, only Casino Night Pinball was given out. I propose a DLC adding 2 new playable characters, a multiplayer race mode, and 3 new stages in the Sonic Generations portion of Sonic X Shadow Generations. The new characters: For the new characters, I’ve considered adding one for Act 1s and another for Act 2s. For Act 1s, Classic Tails would be the new character. For Act 2s, Amy Rose would be the new character. These new characters would be usable in all stages, rival battles, and boss battles, but not be allowed in challenge acts or against the final boss. They would be unlocked after being rescued and could be selected by interacting with them in the White Space. Classic Tails: In comparison to Classic Sonic, Classic Tails cannot perform the drop dash, but can fly for a short time as seen in past games. Amy Rose: In comparison to Modern Sonic, Amy Rose cannot perform the drop dash or air dash, but can do a double jump instead. Her boost meter would also fill passively. Sonic Generations Multiplayer Background: The multiplayer mode within Sonic Generations would be similar to what’s been seen in Sonic Origins and Sonic Mania. It would be a local multiplayer mode selectable from the title screen. There would be several customization options for a race as well. Only stages that both Classic and Modern Sonic can beat will be selectable. The new characters would also be playable in this mode. Up to four people can play against each other in this mode. Sonic Generations Versus Race: Sonic Generations’ multiplayer mode would be a competitive racing one based off of Sonic Mania’s competition mode. On the title screen, Versus Race would appear as a new option. Upon selection, you would be taken to a character select screen where the players could choose their characters (between Classic Sonic, Classic Tails, Modern Sonic, and Amy Rose). Then, they’d select the stage. Because some stages would crash or be unbeatable with a certain Sonic, I’ve listed the ones that should be playable: Green Hill Act 1, Chemical Plant Act 1, Sky Sanctuary Act 1, Speed Highway Act 1, City Escape Act 1, Seaside Hill Act 1, and Crisis City Act 1. After choosing a stage to race in, the game would begin. Like usual, the first one to pass the goal post wins. Match Settings: Like in Sonic Mania, there’d be several options to change up the match. For example, the item monitors would have 3 different configurations including Standard, which keeps them as they are, Random, gives a random effect when a monitor is hit, and Teleporter, which makes all monitors into Teleporter Monitors from past Sonic titles. You can also decide to create timer limits or limit how many lives they have. Lastly, could also choose to disable the ability to spin dash and boost. Player Interactions: Players should have ways to delay their opponent’s progress in a few ways. For example, spin dashing or boosting into another player from behind should hurt them. If Modern Sonic or Amy homing attacks another player, it should damage them only if they aren’t spinning. 3 new stages: The path to these new stages would be placed to the right of the final boss, in which a tunnel in the wall appears. Beyond that would be Mortar Canyon from Sonic Forces, Studiopolis from Sonic Mania, and Speed Jungle from Sonic Superstars. New Unlockables: Getting an S Ranks on all acts of these new stages would unlock a skin for Classic Sonic that makes him appear voxel like seen in Cyber Station from Sonic Superstars. Getting all Red Rings on all acts of these new stages would unlock a skin for Modern Sonic that makes him look like his model from the Sonic Rush series. Getting an S Rank on all stages with Classic Tails would unlock the “Classic Swap” skill. Classic Swap allows the player to change between Classic Sonic and Tails at will in Act 1s. Getting an S Rank on all stages with Amy Rose would unlock the “Modern Swap” skill. Modern Swap allows the player to change between Modern Sonic and Amy Rose at will in Act 2s.
