Coventry Speedway Stadium LOCALS FIGHTING PROPERTY DEVELOPERS

COVENTRY SPEEDWAY Racing Stadium was a thriving attraction since 1928 and then it fell into the hands of property developers who locked the doors and tried to push through planning to demolish it and build houses on the site. The locals have been fighting back for this historic site and the locals m ay well win. I hope they do before the vandals do any more harm. Its looking had but like **any sunken ship - they can always be refloated.**

It's such a shame that this has happened to the speedway. Such a slice of sustainable working history and culture going to waste and decay because of a developer who sees a quick profit, probably even more so now, what with the cost of buying a house going up. The loss of these amazing cultural things is a real loss to the community and Coventry, and Coventry needs these things more than ever now. Thanks for the awesome video and the old memories.

such a shame another track gone like so many I was a Hackney supporter back in the 70s and 80s Speedway back then was nearly as big as football shame the riders didn't earn as much for risking there lives doing a sport they love Vic Harding to name one. I had gone to Coventry a few times over the years wish we could all go back to these better days when life was a lot less woke and saying things didn't automatically class you a racist or people taking offence by the smallest comment we live in a much sadder age .

I so loved going there as a kid with my dad and even with out him but the homes got to close to the place so it had to go. So it's now closed shame as there all going one by one.

The owners Brandon states want to build houses there but the council won’t let them and the locals have said they want speedway there instead of housing and the owners have to been to court serval times because they have failed to properly secure as they are trying to let it get to a state beyond repair so eventually they will let them build there and apparently a businessman did put an offer in but Brandon estates haven’t accepted or rejected it. Also that box you went into was where the referee for the speedway meetings was. It did also host stock cars and dog racing as well as speedway

I used to go to speedway, at Canterbury. Good fun and fond memories. My cousin went out with and ultimately, married one of the Canterbury Crusaders. The track was eventually converted to a greyhound race track, but subsequently closed and ended up as dilapidated as Coventry's. Of course, the site has now been built on.

I went to this stadium 3 times to watch the greyhounds. The red room 25 minutes in, that was a restaurant. We had a Christmas party in there in…2008 I think. It was a good night. The drinks were cheap. The 2 times after that was just in the understand and main bar area. Such a shame seeing it like that, although dated I had 3 very good nights out here

it used to be the best stadium in the country. because of how it was easy to get to. that track would always get well over 60 stock cars a meeting and it was the best track in the country. Some of the people involved with the stock cars are trying to buy it back for 5million

In the US, that track style with motorcycles racing or drifting is called “flat track” racing. They wear a special steel shoe on the left foot riding on the surface of the track.

They did stock cars there to so it was well used in the older days it's a shame there all going one by one in Swindon all the land round the one here has now got houses on and there shutting itbas the people that moved there do not like the place being there as it to noise thing. They moved in when it was working and then like you say complain about it. As the planing people live there well it's had no chance of staying. Thing is the same people say there nothing for kids to go and see and do where the kids could work on bikes and cars and race there. Now they do it on the roads. Best days of my life going there and Birmingham loved it so much but they have all gone thanks to new homes going up. Swindon is putting up best part of 30,000 new houses and not a thing for people to do just taking all we could do away.

They did that with the drag strip south of Sacramento California Sacramento raceway the people moved in first they got the Air Force Base shut down then they tried to shut down Airojet now they have successfully closed Sacramento Raceway home of the Fox Hunt Drag race where the ladies got in free that day and the Governor's Cup Drag Race Wednesday night street car's and testing of top fuel 300mph funny cars & rails
