I watch all of your videos Mr Martin and I can't tell you how much insight you have provided me. I take a look at my past CVs, cover letters and think "What the hell was i thinking? They're rubbish". Not anymore, although I do not have a job yet and have been unemployed for 4 years, I am using your techniques now to get my career in a customer service/administration role. I will continually refer to your videos when applying for jobs and hope I am employed soon. Thank you.

Also, Thank you very much for taking the time to create and upload this series of videos - certainly eye opening, and your offer of an open line of communication via email is rather enticing - not to mention greatly appreciated. Much love!

I wish i watched this prior to writing my cover letter for a vacant position last night....top notch stuff, some of which i hadn't even considered. I also watched the 'follow up' video...quick question, if it is an online only application (as so many are) is it still desirable to call the HR manager? They don't really give much away in terms of contact details..will an email suffice? Or would that be seen as a lazy cop out?

Graham, I've heard it said that for jobs that are more hourly-pay based and labor intensive, HR doesn't care as much about the craft and the polish of the cover letter. Do you think that's true or is that rubbish?

but what if i'm applying to a multitude of jobs i can't be expected to write an individual covering letter for each of these applications
@alexandrawestelaken57298 жыл бұрын
+Randomvirusprime You're supposed to write one for each. Do you really want their job enough to spend an hour on the application? Show them by customizing it.

I avoid job descriptions that require a cover letter like the plague. Considering the amount of positions you have to apply to before you get a response - it's not worth the effort. Quantity actually does work better than quality.

Hi Alec. I'd beg to differ. Apply to few roles and create a cover letter that really stands out. Don't spray & pray

HELP: what about addressing issues, like a 10-year gap of not working like raising a family or taking care of elderly family member, or you have been self-employed 20 years or an independent contractor your entire life, and you have all the skills mastered to the job through EXPERIENCE, but no education ?
@aurelianspodarec26296 жыл бұрын
Tell them that. But don't go into personal stuff. Show them their experience. The cover letter should be an accompanion to your CV where you list that.

Cover letters are dead. 66% of recruiters don't bother with them. Very bad advice saying they are essential.

You are right. Cover letter aren't important for recruiters. They are important for the owners - so it should be personal. Otherwise it seems you try too hard. Plus, google up 2018 owners that say they hired those with a cover letter over the ones that didn't had it. Jean, wake up!
