I think this is a sneaky decent hire. Iowa already has a lot of great pieces, and if the offense can even hit 60th in the country, this Iowa team will do well in the upcoming season. We don't need the 15th best offense in CFB to win 9 or 10.

Lester will scheme the TE’s open more so than Brian Ferentz did. That should be the focus along with the run game.

Interesting it was said he has developed WRs and schemed them open plus still heavy in the run game. He's also been a QB coach so it could be a sneaky hire for Iowa that everyone is poo pooing

Looking at Lester’s read option / RP option offenses, he seems like a guy who is good at exploiting defenses. He also uses the tight end quite a bit in both the running and passing game. The question is, will KF let the QB run 4-6 times per game? Marco would thrive in that scheme. Part of the scheme Lester uses depends upon the QB being a wild card. Also, will KF let him run the offense he wants and recruit the players he wants? If so, Lester could do well at Iowa. If not…

Guy on the lower right; brown was the only freshman as OSU to get snaps as a true freshman. He showed some flash for sure so to act as if he’s not talented is a bit cynical. And they do have Cade McNamara and kadyn proctor to anchor the weak side now. Good TE and good running back talent. And Johns would have been a splash hire to most Iowa fans. But I’m hopeful for Lester.

As an Iowa fan I would not take 8-4 next season. It’s fair to assume Iowa won’t get to 10 wins next season, especially coming from an outside perspective, however if this team stays healthy I would say I expect them to win 10 and I could see them winning 11. We bring back almost every starter, most notably on defense, so they will be really good again. If the guys on offense who got hurt early last season (Cade McNamara and TE Luke Lachey) stay healthy we will be better on offense. Also I think any new OC is better than the previous so I expect to see some better schemes at the least. We also have probably the easiest schedule in the B1G again and it’s possibly that the only top 25 team we play in the regular season is Ohio State. The last two seasons we’ve been about last in total offense but if we can get up to top 90-80, even a top 100 offense, I would be surprised if we don’t win 10.

Should Iowa fans be willing to take an 8-4 record and be happy?. . . No. This in my opinion is a clear example of people not respecting Iowa because they aren't perceived to be a powerhouse team. Iowa has had a top 10 Defense and special teams year after year for awhile now. If Lester can get their offense in the top 90, which I believe he will, they should be a 9-3 or better team. Anyone who thinks Washington, with a new head coach, UCLA and USC, with no defense, is just going to come in and win a bunch of games, are fooling themselves. Michigan St. & Northwestern have new coaches, Nebraska and Wisconsin will be in their second year with new coaches and PJ Fleck needed a ref to overturn a call on the field in the final minute to get his first win against Kirk.

Tom being the one talking some sense into Bud about anything positive regarding Iowa is surprising to say the least. They’re not going 8-4 Bud. I understand this was 6 months ago so hindsight is 20/20, but what the hell are you smoking? They just won 10 games with the worst offense in almost every aspect imaginable and you think with returning damn near the entire defense that was 4th in the nation and a new OC and no more Deacon they won’t do it again?
