Includes pictures to give you ideas for layouts and such. If you are looking for a guide, this is not exactly what you want. But if you are trying to familiarize yourself with the way that pole barn building and other out buildings, are made, then this will work just as you need it to. A few things in this book are a barn (of course), detached garage, storage building, and coops.

I totally agree with you. I myself use bicycles for transportation and do some food foraging…but I know damn well that I benefit from the trappings and technology of modern society. I remember hearing a woman with a holier-than-thou attitude on an NPR show extolling how green she was because she used her bike for transportation. This is where I diverge from these people. I live in the Eastern U.S. Two of my bikes were manufactured in China and one in Cambodia, of course using fossil fuels. They then of course were shipped across the Pacific Ocean on a container ship. They then were transported across the U.S., either by truck or by rail. And the bike shop where I bought ‘em uses electricity from the grid. 😊 James Howard Kunstler, in his excellent book THE LONG EMERGENCY, makes this very same point in that large-scale so-called “alternative energy” sources like solar, wind, hydroelectric, and nuclear power all are propped up by fossil fuels.

Back when I was recording my music in Vancouver at Bullfrog Studio, we'd go for prawns at Phenom Phen Restaurant on Broadway. They did a fantastic salt * pepper prawn with garlic dish! So gOOOD! When I lived out in Sooke (T'souke Territory), in a log house, off grid, we relied on a 12 volt battery to pump water up from Demammiel Creek, and to run an old wringer washer. It was a lot of work! A 1920's wood stove heated hot water, and I baked bread from the Tasahara Bread Book, soup from scratch everyday. A beautiful life that resonates with your journey in the forrestlands of BC! In huge rainstorm episodes, the creek would flood the banks, knock out the two bridges to the property, and we'd be socked in until the river level subsided, John would rebuild the bridges, and for the duration, we hunkered down, the CBC Radio to only contact from outside, sometimes for weeks on end.

First of all, there is no way I would eat that shrimp - head, brains, eyes, legs and ALL. But it was a pleasure to see how Nicolle enjoyed them so, so much. If I were extremely hungry or starving, of course I would eat it. Jake: You are one of the MOST amazing men on the planet. When you told Nicolle that you were going to "mill" her a greenhouse and "mill" her a house ~ that was one of the most LOVE FILLED statements and it shows who you are at the core. I think Nicolle was caught up in watching Fox -- so she perhaps did not appreciate it as much as she could have ~ but I GOT IT and it melted my heart. You are such an incredible man. That "slow mo" of Fox was sensational! What great footage you have of that amazing little guy. He definitely IS very, very special. Different than other children for sure. He is so very bright ~ in intellect and also in sensitivity. What he is learning from both of you is well above and beyond what most children would receive. Yeah. they make a lot of money selling naked photos and videos of her pregnant and post pregnancy body on different websites. They advertise it freely in the notes on every YT video they post, but NEVER talk about it in the videos. I am not shaming her, I'm not here to judge anyone...I just think she will regret it someday, or maybe come to resent the fact that her future husband is fine with it all, and probably even the person most responsible for it. My ex-husband was 10 years older than me and I allowed him to talk me into doing things that I later regretted, and resented, because what they really began to show was a lack of respect for me. Thankfully there is no photo or video "evidence" of such happenings that my now adult sons could ever find, and nothing I did was anything even remotely as explicit as what she/they sell or do. To each their own, I just find them kind of off-putting for never addressing it. Sins of omission, for lack of a better term. Makes them not seem very genuine

I love watching your channel and wish I could have lived this wholesome life a few decades ago. I sense your hearts are devoted to living in as much harmony as possible with the natural world around you. And it’s great that you’ve created a successful commercial enterprise. It would be a beautiful world if there were a way to accommodate comfortable, “natural” lives for the masses. I fear that if too many people were to live lives like yours, we’d have no wild spaces left on this planet. Not to mention that the tools and technology you are using spring from industries that increase toxicity on the planet. That said-even with that unfortunate aspect attached to your lives, it’s still a great thing you are doing because the beautiful natural world you share with your viewers is so uplifting for those of us who long for such a connection but are unable to access it on the scale you do. I have to satisfy myself with planting patches of native prairie around our yard and growing pollinator plants and reducing the less wildlife-friendly lawn, here in the Midwest.
