My favorite Cold War nuke idea is the bomb pumped x-ray laser. It essentially focuses the light of a thermonuclear explosion into an insanely powerful laser pulse. This bypasses the main drawbacks of laser weapons, namely power consumption and cooling, by being a single shot weapon. The original concept had these placed in earth orbit under the Star Wars program to shoot down Soviet ICBMs while they were in space. Looking to the future it would make an excellent weapon for space combat beyond LEO.

During the 1968 Cuban Missile Crisis, the closest we have ever been to nuclear Armageddon, Soviet subs were equipped with nuclear tipped torpedoes which they had full authority to use on US warships. Fortunately, it didn't come to that.
@LuarAzul2
@LuarAzul2 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! This is a great channel and I really appreciate every video. Those weapon caches by the Soviet union reminded me of a doubt I have entertained for a long time: I wonder what is the feasibility of hiding nuclear weapons in foreign countries to be exploded at will, or automatically, at some further time. They could be deployed by self-driven submarines, for example, riding up rivers from the sea. Or perhaps, entering a country in the same way as some illegal drugs do, by ship or airplane... They could be delivered slowly, piece by piece, and then assembled in the destination. Do nuclear weapons need maintenance? Are they easily spotted, for instance by radiation signatures? Are there processes in place which would identify if such a weapon was smuggled in? I was thinking that a country could implant them either as deterrence, to prevent an eminent attack, or even to just destabilize a country, for example exploding the bomb in a time of conflict between two other nations and letting the attack be attributed to someone else. For example, Russia might explode a small nuclear dirty bomb in an American city, leaving signs that suggested the attack had in fact been made by some terrorist organization, let's say Al-Qaeda or something like that... It could even create fake websites claiming the attack was done by someone else. I doubt it would make sense politically because it would just increase the global paranoia levels and increase the chances of future wars, but I'm just wondering what's the technical feasibility of building and deploying such weapons... As a deterrent it could be used in the presence of eminent attack by saying: we have a nuclear bomb in one of your major cities, and no, you will never found out which, so don't even think about attacking us! In practice, of course, this might not work as a deterrent at all. But, once again, I'm just exploring the technical feasibility. Because, if it's easy to do, then I am willing to entertain the thought that someone might have already done it, although we may never know, just because it is a powerful idea that works best if its kept hidden.

The major radiation issue with nuclear-powered cruise missile is its fallout towards ground on its flight path,not that lethal but enough to damage individual health (long-term speaking)
@therecruitdu5505
@therecruitdu5505 3 жыл бұрын
again its not like living right next to a damaged reactor or something,one-time espousal rate under the cruise missile traveling path would be just enough for most health departments to issue a warning like“may cause damage to individuals‘ health”,but I think the N-cruise missile is just for fireworks to maintaining the heat of Russian populism,their srbm,icbm and alcm are much more efficient and well-developed to deliver than nuclear-powered cruise missile

Status-6 will have multiple operational modes, one is launched after the command from a sub, another one is the loitering mode, it loiters around and waits for the command to strike. It is a crazy doomsday device, sounds like a sci-fi weapon, but it is a real weapon that has been in testing for the past 4 years and it is nearly ready for deployment. Sub Brief has done a really good video on it, check it out.

@Ragnaroz6000
@Ragnaroz6000 3 жыл бұрын
It runs out because what available storage unit they filled the air into, is finite in size and hence will run empty eventually. The amount of air needed to keep a stream of supersonic air flowing over such a wide object is many times more per second than it's feasible to continuously refill. It takes many hours/days to fill up enough air at the very high pressure needed, to run the windtunnel for just a few minutes.
