Hey CGB, for "science," I kept track of my entire Mythic run in Bo3 Historic: the TLDR is that on the final day, with an 18-7 record, I was at #1099. At 19-7, I was at #276 to end up at #332 when the timer expired. What I learned was: * I don't think there's an extra credit bonus for playing Bo3 * Being X-0 (perfect record) gives you less benefit than you'd might think, as I fell to #888 while I was 7-0, so while it's probably sorted by kill/death ratio of some sort, it does reward you, it would seem, for playing more * Things are much more competitive than they were last year (in terms of requiring huge streaks to get ahead) and yet players are still clumping in huge plateaus of similar rankings 844 vs 204 2-0 Golgari Company vs. Gruul = 502 511 vs 1257 2-0 Golgari Company vs. Bant Control = 352 362 vs 606 1-0 Golgari Company vs. Rakdos Arcanist = 233 245 vs 474 2-1 Golgari Company vs. Jund Midrange = 167 236 vs 97% 2-0 Golgari Company vs. Rakdos Arcanist = 177 298 vs 155 2-1 Golgari Company vs. Gruul = 177 400 vs 99% 2-0 Golgari Company vs. Gruul = 283 888 vs 98% 0-2 Golgari Company vs. Selesnia Company = 1304 1305 vs 98% 0-2 Golgari Company vs. Gruul = 99% 99% vs 99% 0-2 Golgari Company vs. WB Auras = 98% 98% vs 98% 1-2 Rakdos Sac vs. Grixis Pile = 97% 97% vs 98% 2-1 Rakdos Sac vs. UW Auras = 98% 98% vs 93% 1-2 Rakdos Sac vs. Jund Sac = 96% 96% vs 93% 2-1 Rakdos Sac vs. WB Auras = 97% 97% vs 95% 1-2 Rakdos Sac vs. Selesnia Company = 96% 96% vs 97% 1-2 Goblins vs. Selesnia Company = 95% 95% vs 87% 2-0 Neoform Combo vs. Aetherworks Marvel = 95% 95% vs 971 2-0 WB Auras vs. WB Auras = 97% 97% vs 96% 2-1 WB Auras vs. Selesnia Company = 98% 97% vs 96% 2-0 WB Auras vs. Selesnia Company = 99% 99% vs 94% 2-1 WB Auras vs. RDW (white splash) = 99% 99% vs 91% 2-0 WB Auras vs. 5 Color Niv = 1337 1332 vs 96% 2-1 WB Auras vs. Selesnia Company = 1060 1165 vs 96% 2-1 WB Auras vs. Abzan Counters = 904 923 vs 97% 2-0 WB Auras vs. Sultai = 585 1099 vs 1241 2-0 WB Auras vs. Jund Sac = 276 end at #332

That's irrelevant. Plateaus exist because non-streamers tend to sit on their ranks and go off and run events, play Brawl, or switch to limited. This leads to fewer games played as people behaving in similar ways get similar results. It's not surprising and doesn't require a fancy technical explanation or word salad. Matchmaking can only match people against players who exist and are looking for a game -- which is why anyone in Diamond on the third day of a month is probably matched vs. Platinum and Mythic players as often as other Diamonds, especially if they're in a lower volume queue like Bo3 Historic. (Although everyone thinks their favorite format is the lowest volume.) There simply aren't enough Arena players to consistently match people who are close in rank and even if there were, ascribing that much power to a match making algorithm ignores the larger reason people tend to be clumped on the ladder.

@@rl-films I have the magic assistant app for the game. I played on the last couple days of the month in the regular play queue and everyone I played against were playing top tier decks. First game description was perfect for understanding the frustration people have had for months. Only able to play decks that counter rouges because that’s all there is. Hopefully it’s better now that this new set is out but I finished my master pass and haven’t touched the game in weeks. I’d play upwards of 15 match ups a day and I’d be lucky if I saw more than 3 NOT be rouges.

Huge thanks CGB for this deck, i'm in love. He is a bit tricky sometimes, but all theses hastes creature get the better from yorion's decks. Especially since i just enter top 100 mythic with it. I was gold 4 just 2 days agos. The ability to have turn 4 embercleave or Great henge playable is a huge thing. I'm 41 win for 14 losses (74%) with - oddly - a better winrate on the draw. I have 3 dragons instead of 4. I added 1 snakeskin (great combo with the dragon), 1 embercleave, 1 questing beast and 1 primal might. I removed fire prophecy, scorching dragon and 1 inscription. Maybe the primal might can be removed too and have the new troll saga or grimrock knight instead ; to have more way to draw with inkeeper.
