@AskDoctorAmy

There is no specific data on asthma in your age group, but since Coronavirus is a respiratory virus, presumably it can trigger asthma in the same way other viruses do. I have been recommending my patients follow their asthma Sick plan very diligently. Use inhalers instead of nebs to decrease aerosol in the air which can spread the virus. Stay well!

@AskDoctorAmy
@AskDoctorAmy 4 жыл бұрын
You are at risk for developing an asthma exacerbation if you get COVID-19, just like you would be with any other viral illness. Then that can also increase the risk for pneumonia if asthma makes it harder for your lungs to clear the secretions. So in that sense, I would treat any symptoms seriously with your baseline asthma sick plan, but there is no specific data to suggest anything further than that.

No answer yet? I'm basically the same, I'm 48 & I had very bad Asthma when I was little, nearly died several times, but since about...11? 12? It's been gone. Tiny little flare ups when I exercise sometimes, but nothing like an actual "attack". I don't even have any medication, or inhaler or anything, haven't since...the 80's, I guess. So I'm wondering, am I at heightened risk with Covid 19...

I know that you cannot really come out and say it in the way that I can very much tell you wish you could say it here in this video... so I will say it for you lol... America has failed its people in the handling of this virus!!!... well, actually in many various ways, even outside the virus. But for sure in the way things have been handled with this. And to think, this video was made in March... and now look at where we are, and how much worse things are getting, and how our lacking leadership is only contributing to the problem instead of doing something positive to take care of this situation. It is very frustrating to see people stand proudly on the wrong side of things, knowing good and well that we can take a look at the other countries mentioned here in this video, and clearly see that we are failing our citizens in regards to public health, and the healthcare system, PERIOD!!! It is angering to say the least!!! Thank You for your calming guidance as I sit here worried for my children, one in particular that is of a higher risk, and has for sure been exposed from a Grandparent, thanks to the stupid decisions made by our local Governments to rush and reopen a tourist town in the middle of a pandemic, which forced everyone back to risky jobs!?! America as a whole is a total disaster right now, and I am dumbfounded by how many seem to not even care!?!

Hi Shamiah, I hear you. It's okay to be scared. Unfortunately I can't tell you anything more concrete, as asthma does make all respiratory infections more high risk. My advice is just to take maximum precaution, which hopefully you are already taking, and take good care of yourself (stay hydrated, eat healthy, try to exercise a bit inside every day) as that also plays into your overall health. Best of luck to you.

What about bronchitis? What if you have bronchitis is it More dangerous If you get COVID?
@AskDoctorAmy
@AskDoctorAmy 4 жыл бұрын
Bronchitis is usually not a chronic condition. People can have frequent episodes, but all it means is inflammation of the bronchus, which is usually virus related. If you mean other chronic lung conditions like COPD or chronic inflammatory syndromes, theoretically COVID (and any other respiratory virus) would exacerbate that.
