‘If Amber was white, she would still be here today’ - This father lost his partner during childbirth at the height of COVID-19. Now he’s fighting to raise awareness about the racial inequality Black women face during pregnancy.

In US news and current events today, the maternal mortality rate in the US has continued to worsen, thanks to our unjust health care system and racial inequality in healthcare outcomes. Healthcare inequality has been a major factor in why the COVID-19 pandemic has cause a disproportionate amount of coronavirus deaths among BIPOC people. Health care inequality is tied to racial inequality, as lower access to health care and income inequality means that BIPOC health is lower across the board, and nowhere is that more evident than in the Black maternal mortality numbers among Black women and Black mothers. For Black Lives Matter to achieve its goal, we must address systemic racism and inequalities like this in our healthcare system.

My respects to the family. This is 2020, no woman should die in childbirth; it's unacceptable as a society. What a good man, going through so much grief. God bless him.

As a Australian midwife, this is a fallacy. So many countries have a high maternal mortality rate. Many women die, it is just not spoken about. But this situation in a so called First World country is outrageous and so wrong. Wake up America you are failing your citizens

They don't listen to us. It's assumed we need to be educated and have no understanding or knowledge. A friend of mine went to emergency with servere stomach pains. An x-ray was done showing an abdomen full of mucous. She was Black therefore sexually promiscuous. They diagnosed her with a serious STD infection. Fortunately her GP arrived and looked at the x-ray. My friend's appendix had burst. She was rushed into to emergency surgery. Her mother was told the was a huge chance she wouldn't make it due to the amount of time that had past since they erupted. She did make it, was very ill and spent additional time in the hospital.

Went to school with her. She was amazing, friends with and friendly to everyone, extremely beautiful and smart. The day this happened I was in a chat room full of my best friends who also went to the same school, one of them which was friends with her, told us about this unfortunate event and we we're in complete shock. Everyone at school knew her as a loving friendly person. She should be alive but she isn't because she was neglected when she cried for help to the medical system. Rest in peace Amber.

@SsSs RoBbSs The point you obviously missed, is how minorities don't always get the same care as a privileged white person. The only other possibility is, that the doctors just become too busy with so many patients that they may not have the time or, just become desensitized. The fact does remain that privileged people do receive better care. If you knew about the data involved with the comparisons made between white neighborhoods & minority area's, the proof is all there. You can't argue with statistical health data. Where's your proof that he blames a racist boogie man?

@SsSs RoBbSs Plus! He's a real man for how he's not only being a father to his child but, how he has handled his partners death by helping to continue helping the community as she did. Your ignorance is solely focused on trying to prove how racism is as fake as the boogy man. Therefore, blinding you from the facts and moral of this story.

@@beachboys2029 I'm done with SsSs Rob because he's apparently a troll. And in case you missed it, he attempted to joke about a racist boogey man as if racism doesn't exist within the health care system. The numbers don't lie. But people/trolls like you 2 who act like there is no difference in treatment between the different social classes/minorities, more than likely don't know anything about what we're talking about because you're living your white privileged lives not ever having to experience what we're talking about. So, how can you even dare to claim you know anything on this subject? There's so many factors that prove race inequality exists, and you 2 attempting to avoid that fact just goes to show how intentionally blind you're choosing to be to the facts. I bet you troll's are anti-masker's too. You probably even believe Chump when he said more white people die by cops also. I bet this man in the video is more of a man than the both of you combined & that's why @SsSs RoBbSs got insecure enough to troll about racist boogey men existing.

Think about it if your told to do something the common sense thing is to listen but not all commonsense is common you have some who will refuse to listen. At the end of the day all you can do is lend them to water it's up to them to drink it.

It's horrible and my heart goes out to the family she left behind. Not only do doctors ignore the complaints and concerns of women in general, but those of color in particular. This needs to be addressed in mandatory training for all upcoming doctors and those already in practice. Most maternity deaths occur in the first few months postpartum. This is due to C-sections now dinner routinely instead of on an emergency basis. Not only does this open the mother up to the immediate risk of infection, but in difficult future pregnancies and the requirement for all of them to be C-sections. This does not even take into account the lifelong and long lasting effects of C-sections. The process of and power over birth needs to be handed back to women. The US, a "first world country", ranks 56 in the world with maternity mortality rates. Disgraceful.

So sorry for your loss. But know this. I'm white. I kept saying baby was head up still and navy would not do ultrasound. Why. Cuz I think my husband was enlisted. I almost died. Baby was doing a split. They were on top of table trying to get her out. I lost ALOT of blood and threw up on table making blood loss etc worse. So. Black and white. Dr dont listen to us. And I'm 57 now. There was no pandemic making visits unable to go to or test to be run. Being white. What do I blame. Guess all I have is my financial state.. which is the cultural difference not color. Cuz I have black and white friends. And color didnt put us where we r. My x did to me. But bad health care has always been. From same kid being misdiagnosed 5 yrs of heart condition they said was pulmonary stenosis..at 6 got tricared out and Sacred Heart caught their yearly error. She had aortic surgery 5 weeks later in Atlanta making what WOULD have been very moderate stenosis that caused perm heart damage. If not caught sooner the effects even worse. So understand. It's not just all about color
