COVID-19: Vietnam becomes first Southeast Asian country to ease movement curbs

I have lived in Vietnam 7 years. There is not another country in the world I would rather be right now. Vietnam responded and reacted immediately. They put the correct measures in place, when others were talking about it. Today, children are back at school, football comes back on June 5th, shops and bars etc are all open and life is slowly getting back to normal. The negative comments here are clearly by people with no education, no knowledge of Vietnam and no doubt never been here. Paranoia and hate driven comments should just be ignored. These people dont know what they are talking about and no one here should waste time and energy responding to them. Vietnam (for the most part) is a country of caring, community driven, loving people. Other nations are showing just how selfish and arrogant they are. COVID19 doesn't care what you are like and where you come from. Good, honest, community driven people with the greater good at heart won the day. Viet Nam Vo Dich! Viet Nam oi!

I have been to Vietnam twice before, once to Ho Chi Minh City, again to Hanoi and I'm impressed! Despite I prefer Ho Chi Minh City way more than Hanoi, overall Vietnam nevertheless remains an impressive country for me to visit. I had many friends from Vietnam who now (of course, before the outbreak) some even in turn visited Various other ASEAN countries (especially Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia) and trust me, Vietnamese are just wonderful people to be with! Unlike as how the Western media potrayed.

What more impressive is they shared a land border with China. The hate they have toward China somehow helped them. I've been to Hanoi in January and February, and i've witness myself how they handled the situation, shutting down villages if someone found positive (eg in Son Loi and Truc Bach). Truc Bach is an elite neighbourhood, the Vietnam gov were not selective on their SOP, rich or poor they're treated as same. Plus, wearing a mask is like customary there due to the chilly weather and unfortunately bad air quality, face mask are easily available anywhere. Well done Vietnam!!

I find this question is very common about Vietnam. The answer is no, our government is not same like China. Yes we have only one party but it’s not that bad. Our government has done their best for the people with all updated news every day. They couldn’t lie about the numbers as well because we could get information easily through our community, through social media and many different sources. We still have freedom of information. We’re really appreciated what our government has done during this pandemic.

However, you are correct it is definitely not like China. China has strict control over there citizen with security cameras throughout the country. However, they provide more for their citizens than Vietnam does. I have been fortunate to live in both countries for over a year. This is not an opinion. It's based on being a part of the system.

Actually, our government reacted fast and strictly at the beginning of January. They always go ahead so we still dont have any death. Plus, the treatment is totally free. Now in VN there is an English pilot in serious danger. We have to use ECMO to help him survive. His lung has been damaged two third. Maintaining that no death toll is absolutely not an easy job like writing a bad comment about our country.

There is not a place I in the world that I feel more safe right now than being in Vietnam. i have lived here 7 years and Vietnam does (and always will) have a very special place in my heart. Agree. Vietnamese know their healthcare limit very well and limitation is a stimulation to an innovation. Malaysia and SG however IMO too overconfident with our healthcare system which now almost in the brink of our limit as a result. Malaysia has start to take Vietnamese approach by locking down a severely affected neighbourhood, barbing the area with a single entry point.

Malaysia did it way back in the 50s to prevent human enemies (not viruses) infecting villages from Communist infiltration. It's just an adaptation of an old strategy to contain stubborn humans, and segregate healthy humans from infected ones. When the padamic happened, the Vietcong Gov didnt think about money first, focusing on ppl ONLY is the key to success. all of the West countries had wasted too much time to think of how much money they will loose from their pockets and once they turned the wheel, it was all too late. rawstar really no death till now.Maybe cases are manageable. Total cases till now is 270. Even 2 old folk British age 65-72, got cured after 3 week and returned to uk. One chinese aged 67 with diabetes, serious condition also got cured. The country do their best to prevent because they know once it spread widely, the healthcare system wont be able to handle

2 hours for PCR method test (100% accuracy) and we also have quick test (90% accuracy) with shorter time.

Fast test only take 10 minutes based on antibodies found in blood but this kind of test is sometimes inaccurate. Other test needed to do in the lab is PCR real time test which is resulted in 2 hours

Vietnam's success so far is due to its efforts and a bit of luck IMO. The danger is far from over. Vietnam shares long borders with China, Lao, and Cambodia. As long as there are still people getting infected in these countries and if one of these people happens to be Vietnamese ( many Vietnamse living in these countries for bussiness, studies, or working etc... and most of them want to come back to Vietnam now), and if they are selfish and thoughtless and try to sneak in to avoid being quarantined ( it has happened), and it's next to impossible to the authority to catch all of them, they could begin again to spread the virus far and wide. There is a stereotype of Vietnamese people being obedient to the government. It's partly true. But there are many who defy and disobey: not wearing mask when outside, sneaking out of quarantined places, garthering in public when they're not supposed to, sneakily open their bussinesses when they should be closed, sneak in closed park to exercise to fish etc... There are still some restrictions with the lock down lifted, there will be people who ignore these restrictions. In short the risk for second wave of community infection is still VERY HIGH is Vietnam.

Only 3 weeks lock down. Schools were closed but students studied online. The only places locked down before this were areas with confirmed cases. What Vietnam did was not lock down but called Mass Quarantine of infected and suspected infected
