Though I agree that Indian government handled the crisis well. I'd point out that there was a massive failure in terms of medical infrastructure and its inability to secure adequate oxygen. I remember how I had to run from hospital to hospital just to find an oxygen tank for my uncle who was in a critical situation. He's alive today because we had money to buy one at 10 times the price. My heart goes out to those who lost their loved ones because they couldn't afford or find what should've been provided by the government. It is a government failure because this happened in the second wave, and many died because we didn't learn our lesson from the first one.

What they have done, we observed. Dint they failed to provide equipments to hospitals in given time. Dint they tried to hide numbers of deaths as there was prohibition of media on cremation sites. Dint major hospitals and ambulance charged hefty amount to patients of covid, on which still some of the people are paying loans taken off by friends. All National and Regional party has been failed to contain the virus or preparing effectively for second wave. When they knew it is coming back. Nobody in government thought about increasing bed capacity and oxygen cylinder capacity.

Not just dictatorial governments, even India and many western countries did not count the deaths due to co morbidities and post covid symptoms. Especially during the second wave in India, we all vividly remember how low the daily death toll was shown.

we did counted...but china's covid deaths stopped from past 3 months do check the death toll ours is in lakhs but their death rate stopped in thousands(4000+)

@@shivam_nagar69 i am not denying this fact....they are hiding it to a very large extent. I know china has shown very few death toll. But i am not comparing china and India. India has an democratically elected government. So here in india they should not have hidden the actual death toll. Even if India shows total death toll of 5.31 lakhs today, we know for a fact that it is very low - by a factor of 3 to 10 atleast. So the actual number is way more than 15 lakhs. I know a few relatives of mine whose deaths have not been counted - say for instance one person was covid +ve, he was on ventilator for a month, 10 days before his death his covid report came as -ve. But he still on ventilator for the rest of the days, due to weak lungs, then he suffered issue in his liver and passed away. The death certificate by hospital just mentioned multiple organ failure and not death due to covid. There were days when i got to know that some 3 relative of my relatives died on the same day, but the daily death toll that day was just 1 for my city - barmer, Raj. There were a few articles in Thee Hindu newspaper a few months after the second wave. The compared the number of death certificates issued by municipality and the number of bodies burned with previous months average; and then compared that to death toll of that city. For all the cities in india the number was very low, for some by a factor of 20. Even the number of cases shown are very low. Personal experience - during 1st wave all 6 members in my family became ill. We all had fever....for some 2-4 days. Once fever was under control we went to the test centre....all of us, they denied testing and told us that if fever last for more than a week, only then come for testing. But we had to force them to test my father, who had cardiac issues earlier. And he was covid +ve. We were told to home quarantine for 2 weeks. We were pretty sure that we all covid - back aching fever, dry cough for 15-20 days, loss of smell for some. This was the case for many around us. India reports 4.47 crore cases and 5.31 lakh deaths. With a population of 138 crore, and since we reached herd immunity long ago, we definitely have had 60% or more of our population infected - many have been infected twice forgetting that count for now. That gives us the total cases around 80+ crore. With a mortality rate of 1% we have 80 lakh deaths....which looks like an exaggeration. But it definitely isn't 5 lakhs. I know china is way way worse, hiding actual numbers....but India is no better - hiding the actual death toll.

If there are so many new cases, there are more opportunities for the virus to mutate and spread. So a new variant is very likely. The best way for people to protect themselves is to take the precautionary dose/booster. Especially the elderly.
