@Shadywolf095 жыл бұрын
That's one of the things Watanabe wanted to put in with this film. We see something similar in emotion, and that is with Pierrot in Session 20 and Spike expressing genuine fear within the first 5 minutes. Watanabe wanted to show more humanity in Spike and kind of tweak his character to display this. Spike isn't the one in control here, whereas he usually is in the series and does most things in a cool and calm way. It shows that he can be defenseless at times and is able to display vulnerability, even if it has to be forced out of him. This is the only time we see Spike completely helpless in a physical sense.

@Rachael Poulin sure it didn’t have stakes, but the execution was so well made. I knew Spike wasn’t going to die, obviously, but like someone else said the movie is the only time Spike is truly helpless and cannot defend himself, especially since from the look of things he could have beat Vincent. To me that makes the fight scene even greater; that I know the MC will survive but I’m still watching in anxiety (and awe because damn, that animation)

If I remember correctly, this was actually confirmed, Vincent was meant to be a kind of foil to Spike; both incredible fighters, with indomitable spirits, both with rugged secretive past that shaped them, both driven to this existential existence of wondering if they are alive or dreaming., Both are caught in a "living dream," but both see it differently. Whereas, Spike is seeing the dream as a reflection of his past that he's struggling to overcome--being stuck in this place of half-existence while staying true to himself while carving an existence out in a harsh world. Vincent is the darker look, if a person who fell int that kind of mindset forgoes all sympathy, love, empathy, they just want people to suffer like they do, to make the dream stop at all cost, even if it meant destroying the world--and since it's a dream, is there really any repercussions for his actions, he thinks? Vincent is living in a nightmare, and unlike Spike, instead of seeing it through and not giving into the horror that might be, Vincent is adding to it. The two are quite literally the Alpha and Omega.

"You're an original aren't you." that single line alone has so much connotation to it. Spike, being a long time bounty hunter, has seen this sort of mentality from a bounty head so often that it has almost become repetitive. "I have no fear of death, just a dream that lasts for an eternity" is the mentality that all vicious criminals have and that is there folly, they don't seem to understand that they are just another nuisance the world has to go through until they are eradicated. They are nothing but a rinse and repeat that do nothing to benefit the world, only to remind us that these things happen because human and society are flawed in nature. Vincent, although very entertaining, does nothing to change this stereotypical evil villain role, just like almost all evil ppl in that he doesn't fear death and so death he wishes upon others. Spike probably subconsciously picked up the mentality of evil doers because his job is to chase them and so in his condescending remark "You're an original" he portrays that Vincent really isn't original and that most, if not all, evil is inherently unoriginal, I think.

One night he and I were at a mutual friend’s house where all the guys in the clique tended to gather for a while. Cool, older dude in college. Many D&D sessions too. I digress. We were watching and this scene right here, was so bad ass. It was pure Bebop but upgraded to a new level with the production value. There were some technical feats achieved here by the animators, like the panning away from the holy hand grenade, to the smoothness of those pylons swinging by below in the water. Very cool math they used. It’s not shown here but the explosion just after the scene clips was done so well with the speed of the monorail.

For some reason, after watching Blade Runner 2049, I felt like Denis Villeneuve should direct a live action Cowboy Bebop movie.
@tuckermeyers84785 жыл бұрын
ElRadioDJ913 There's a scene in BR 2049 where K wakes up at a campfire on the outskirts of LA and turns to see the replicant prostitute. It is eerily similar to a scene in Cowboy Bebop The Movie where Spike wakes up next to a campfire on the outskirts of Alba City and turns to see the native american who saved him. I like to think Denis was paying homage there.
@ElRadioDJ9135 жыл бұрын
Let's not forget about the Cowboy Bebop-like ending that BR 2049 paid homage to.
