"riiight, I'm shooting a rock now." This is why I love Steve Blum as a voice actor. It's probably too late to ask, but still. You should react to the movie sometime before episode 24, chronologically speaking. Samurai Champloo after you're finished with this series is definitely worth a look sometime. Just as Shinichiro Watanabe directed this anime, he also directed Samurai Champloo. Somewhat Unlike Cowboy Bebop it's more of a story that has a lot of fun, rather than short adventures through and through.

Politely correcting that Feng Shui is Chinese. Not Japanese. They Feng Shui proof everything. Interior of buildings, the actual architecture of buildings, where they face them, etc. Their clothes, their food, the dates they celebrate occasions like marriage, business grand openings, etc. There's feng shui for that too. I know little about actual Feng Shui, but iirc, the 4 gods are reference to mythical deities of the four directions.

As others have pointed out, Feng Shui is Chinese in origin. However, in Japanese it IS written with the same characters, 風水. It's just pronounced differently: fuusui (ふうすい). Fun fact: an easy way to tell that words like "feng" are NOT Japanese right away is that all Japanese syllables (and therefore words) end in a vowel sound. The only exception is 'n' (ん), which can be it's own syllable. And on a tangent (that's relevant to this episode), you can often tell Chinese and Japanese writing apart at a glance, too. Even though Japanese kanji are Chinese symbols (in origin), most Japanese writing that's more than just a name will include hiragana (and sometimes katakana) which are unique to the Japanese language. To bring it back to this episode, the message from Jet's friend (3:14) was written in Chinese (no hiragana/katakana). The fact that his name, Pao Pu Zi, is Chinese is also a clue.

I always watch movies happily. This episode is my favorite episode among "Cowboy · Bebop". It makes me jealous of smoking inside the ship and I am pleasantly surprised at meifa 's overprotection. Meihua is said to be "the bride of the jet" in Japan. Unfortunately they are not tied together.
