The cowboy -> samurai thing has nothing to do with Westworld or anything, but both are just referencing the same close historical relationship between Hollywood Westerns and Japanese Samurai movies. I'm sure you discussed this in the Westworld episodes, but many classic Westerns are just Hollywood remakes of Japanese movies with cowboys in place of samurai. This whole episode is a nod to that.

Case in point: The Magnificent Seven is a remake of Seven Samurai. (Apparently Ken Watanabe also starred in a samurai remake of Unforgiven, to illustrate even further)

cowboy and samurais have influenced each other at least in cinema with early westerns influencing samurai movies like Akira Kurosawa movies and he then he directly influenced post westerns or revisionist westerns like good, the bad and ugly etc. if you think about it the gunslinger and samurai are very similar characters.

So here’s a little meta thing behind the scenes thing is that makes this episode retroactively funny to me decades later. So the voice actor for Andy was married to the voice director/voice of Julia at the time. They got a divorce at some point many years later. But nowadays she’s married to the voice actor of Spike. So whenever I watch this episode, my mind can’t help but wonder how these two feel about each other and that situation. In reality, shit’s probably (and hopefully) cordial, but with how funny the rivalry is in this episode 😅….

There's always been a sort of kinship/rivalry between Cowboys and Samurai. Many westerns are based on samurai stories, like the Magnificent seven and the Seven Samurai movies. So it should come as no surprise that the dude who came up with this series also came up with a Samurai series later.
@LMMotoss6 жыл бұрын
Normies, just FYI! This series doesn't actually take place this long in the future (it takes place in the 2070s). The series doesn't mention it much but it seems with Earth ruined in the Gate Incident, humanity was barely able to hang on in the small colonies they already created. Of course I would be surprised if we have the level of space colonization shown in Bebop by 2070!

The arrogant ignorance is getting sad. A retro-active homage is not a thing. The reference to Wyatt Earp is a homage to the actual man, who was known as the greatest lawman is history. Into Bebop, where Spike meets his annoying match Thickest as in stupid? PierrOT, and yes, mainly TAS There are two kinds of people with this intro, and luckily they're divided through the middle of the couch Yeaaaaaaaah this opening scene did not age well, or age at all seeing as it was aired and consequently pulled during the time of 9/11 You always gotta cover your bases Spike Wyatt Earp was a legendary lawman in the Old West, deputy marshal of Tombstone and one of the fighters in the OK Corral alongside Doc Holliday You say Jesus Christ but I don't hear any complaints Andy is Bruce Wayne gone wrong let's not kid ourselves, billionaire playboy completely inept at everything, he's also the parallel to Spike, even having a similar facial shape and hairstyle Teddy more wanted to be paid attention, to let his motives be known Who needs super saiyan when you have the angry fist of destruction Teddy Bomber is based off of the Unabomber, who had similar motives Ah but does Andy learn? Does he hell, from Cowboy to Samurai, like Bebop to Champloo Andy is not on Spike's level, he's just so incompetent that its frustrates Spike to his wit's end, if anything Andy is Spike's Foil Zoolander's enemy turned friend is called Hansel, and he's so hot right now It's a homage to Spaghetti Westerns mainly Musashi is a legendary samurai, Miyamoto Musashi who was undefeated in 61 duels, the most of any swordsman. Jessie from Pokémon is named after him in her Japanese name, her partner James is named after Sasaki Kojiro, Musashi's rival who he eventually killed There are flat chested 'anime people' but you gotta remember that Faye is walking sex appeal. There are plenty of 'chubby anime folks' too, even in Bebop, Whitney Haggis Masamoto was a chubby dude in his later years remember Chubby Women? Yeah there's chubby women in anime too, Anko and Cho-cho from Boruto spring to mind There's a real simple answer Sam, besides it's not like Bebop is solely reliant on Faye's breasts for viewership
