Thank you. There were times when the boys were young the budget would not stretch. Luckily I always had a nice back yard garden. We would go pick squash ( yellow and zucchini ), tomatoes, onions, and whatever was ripe. Oh sweet bell peppers. The squashes and onions rings were fried. Tomatoes and peppers cut, and I grab some of Pawpa's sweet corn from the fridge. Many nights that was our supper. My boys alway are better than one would think, which pleased me. Usually, by bed time , any left overs had been consumed. Thank you for the yellow squash breading tips.

...............Yall stirred up some good memories with this one, folks.....When I was back home in Alabama visiting my kinfolks we would often stop at "curb markets" on the roadside where the farmers sold their vegetables and my aunt, grandmother and my mother would buy okra, squash, beans, peas , and corn and they would fry it up or boil it with corn bread for our noon meal........I love okra anyway it's fixed including raw right off the stalk.....Then there was always the melons, peaches and plums....Thank you.....and welcome to Marmaduke.......

Hello Kent, great recipe buddy, i have a cousin who was transferred to Louisana for his job and found out an interesting fact on okra, okra is what we call the vegetable, and in Louisana the stew they make is called gumbo which contains okra with other ingredients . The okra vegetable is from africa and in africa they call the okra vegetable gumbo in an african native language, not sure which language. That is how the name of the stew in Louisana came to be named gumbo. You may have already knew that , but i didn't so i learn something new everyday. God bless you and shannon and your web site food recipe channel.

Pull out by handfull squeeze then drippens off roll in salted flour, place cut side down in skillet with enough hot shorten to come up half way . fry till brown then turn over and brown the other side. Server hot.

@@homesteadtotable2921 That's for sure. Even *LOTS* of Americans and Brits have troubles with the pronunciation. Give me a break - Worcester is pronounced "Wooster"? Puh-leez! English: one of the easiest languages to be able to speak badly, and one of the hardest to be able to speak well...

This looks EXACTLY like my great grandmother's fried okra. Possibly my favorite thing to eat in the entire world. NOT the same as the batter dipped version you get in restaurants. The little spots where the breading falls off and the okra itself gets browned and crunchy......

hahaha cracked me up with the "if you have any negative comments , they won't be staying long" too funny. I live in the stinking city in an apartment, so no garden for me ( tough of a country gal like me) but I can get good crookneck squash, Okra is a challenge, I wonder if the frozen would work ...Thank you for the recipe, God Bless you, Shannon and the both the doggies.

@@CowboyKentRollins they do have the coated ones, but I was thinking of the ones that are cut and frozen without a coating so I could use the recipe that you gave. I do miss okra, but I don't buy the ones with the coating because of that, but I haven't bought the ones without before, I think I will give it a try. I don't know why they don't grow it here in Arizona, I had a house with a garden once and it grew great. They ship it in once a year or so and charge about 8 bucks a pound for some low quality Okra. I'll figure it out.

Kent, you are a brave fellow, or have really tough arm-skin, to be picking Okra in a tee shirt. I picked some when my dad grew some while I was in my teenaged years. The plants were taller than what you have (do they have smaller/shorter species now, or do they still get up to 5/6 feet tall?), but they are NOT fun to pick, and since I fortunately can afford it, even if I grow a garden, I vowed never to grow it, but to just buy it. Unrelated, but another crop both my wife (then and now) vowed never to grow is butter beans (some may call them speckled lima beans.) We spent most of a weekend at my fathers 1/3 acre garden in East Texas picking and shelling those, and had to bring about 30 pounds back to our then-apartment and stuck them in the freezer. We ate and ate and ate them until we just couldn't stand it. Now, we can do butter beans about once every couple of years (35+ years later). Anyway, as usual, thumb is up.
