Brother, I understand, I've said and felt the same way, you say it better than I could though. The past chased me in a couple different ways, one with regret shame and self-loathing, the other with the wreckage of my past and having to be accountable, what I found about running from the past is the past never gets tiered and never has to stop. What I had to do, and still do to some degree, was try to face them one at a time and not be too hard on myself while at the same time trying to take as much responsibility as I could, it's easier to start with something small, I started with negative feelings and worked on myself first, changing the way I delt with and felt about, life, the people around me, and myself, then I tried to start dealing with/fixing/excepting the things outside of myself. It's hard bro, it gets easier, though it's always a challenge, like an athlete gets better at the game threw practice and training, it's still never easy. I know you can do it though; I can hear it in your words. 💪 Please reach out from time to time and let me know how you're doing, and if there's anything you want to talk about, I'm here, bro. Never give up, never surrender, one day at a time! 👊 Ps. Also, when we first get sober it takes time for the neurotransmitters in our brain to catch up, and level out again, so it makes us feel like crap and that makes us want to use, they will level out, 30 60 90 days and it keeps getting better.

Matt, I loved this video. Going thru the cattle drive was great, but the look on your face when you got thru it was priceless. I also loved your persistence when working on the fireplace and the shelter. You definitely didn't give up, and that persistence paid off. You remind me of my son who has that same persistence when he has a project he is working on and doesn't want to stop even if he's dog tired. That is you too. Hi Matt. When you are shutting off your truck and worried it will roll, leave it in gear, not in neutral. I typically leave mine in reverse when I shut it off. My dad always told me not to set the emergency break when it is really cold out as it might freeze. I don’t know if it’s true, but I’ve always followed that advice. hoorah

Find a huge metal top for cooking. Leave rear open a bit for smoke to rise and remove for tent. So you dont end up a smoked Matt😊

Hi Matt I like building shelters also bushcraft style. I have a suggestion for outside water drainage to dig a few ditches away on the outside of your tarp roof. S, less water/snow will enter inside. Enjoying watching the time you spend there. Fun times ahead. Rick from Ottawa

After watching more Matt if you dig a hole out the back of your inside fire pit under ground it will draft out and close the top with a piece of sheet metal steel with rocks on outside top part. You could use it for a cooktop. Enjoy your time there. Looks good. 👍✌💪

Need to keep eye on weather. Got couple storms back to back and definitely wouldn't wanna be on the mountain Matt. Hello Matt, I enjoyed this Video. It reminded of the programme Alone which is about American Survivalists on the History channel. Don't know if you have seen it? It follows the self-documented daily struggles of 10 individuals as they survive alone in the wilderness for as long as possible using a limited amount of survival equipment. They have to build a shelter with a fireplace and Survive many weeks. Last One wins life changing amount of money. You would make a worthy contender. Looking forward to your next video. Hello Matt. I've been really excited to see the shelter and watch it being built. I love your exuberance and it telegraphs to us. So glad I found your channel. I've had a hard time adjusting to some really very long term grueling life realities for a very long time. I've been shut down pretty hard this past year. Finding the Mad Matt community is really helping me heal. I've watched you and your family go though so many grueling times as well so it gives me so much hope to see how you have grown and how you are coping. Your positive outlook though adversity is helping me move through my own. This also includes the people that I have met during your live chats. You all have grown precious to me in a very short amount of time. Thank you for sharing yourself so generously to us. I know that I am not the only one that feels this way. Looking forward to more of your camping on the mountain. YEEEEEHAAAAAAAAA P.S. there are people that stack rocks as a form of art. I know you must be familiar with Cairns and the way indigenous people used them as a communication to mark trails and also to commemorate a precious memory. Your fireplace reminds me of that.
