On this adventure I joined Johnny at Johnny Taco Outdoors for some fun snow wheeling adventure. We had plan to camp for the night but end up doing a day trip instead. We took Coxey truck trail into Big Bear. The trail icy and there was so much traffic as we were making our way up. We end up finding an offshoot to have fun on and end up being caught in a sketchy situation late at night. Many lessons were learned and glad we made it safely down the mountain.

lol. i went up a few weeks ago and literally got myself in the same situation. i thought id be back by 3pm but got back at 9pm. i learned, theres no harm in turning around and going back the way you came; when youre alllllmost there and snow-wheeling, that last little bit will be the hardest; and give yourself a lot more time in the snow. i finally used all my recovery gear including my winch. cheers to lessons learned

Awesome! You guys were able to blaze fresh trail in all this traffic lol. I was alone in my K5 Blazer about 1 month ago, no windows or heater and it was getting a bit dark when i got stuck. Managed to get out but so much fun. Keep it up!

What an adventure you guys had! lol. Glad you guys were able to recover from that washout/notch without damage. Too bad there were so many rigs; I swear, excessive trail traffic (on tight trails) is something I dislike the most.

We ran that trail last fall with a 4x4 sprinter van. Beautiful trail but had some steep sections for a built out van. No way we would have made it with the conditions you drove through. Great video, Michael and glad you guys made it without any damage to yourselves or your rigs 😊
@Michael_Tran
@Michael_Tran 6 ай бұрын
Yea I think the icy condition made it hard for anyone. especially a top heavy sprinter van. I think having proper tires definitely help. That stock Tacoma was on stock AT tires and it didn't do it's job...he got stuck 3 times if I counted correctly so made for a long time on the trail

You need a winch for that type of terrain. Also, not good to be off-roading at night without good visibility to the road.

like always, good video Michael. How long ago was this? There's another 2 feet of snow forecasted to fall and this is the weekend I hit up Big Bear for 2 days of snowboarding. I plan on camping out in the Holcomb Valley. I was up in Big Bear a week and a half ago, and alot of the snow was melted. EDIT: My buddy Nori and I got stuck in the same spot, he has the tan Gladiator. He had me upfront, so that he could winch me back. He actually had to use me as an anchor to get up over the crest, then he winched me back and we pushed on. There were some really deep tracks for us, so deep that the 12" of skid plate clearance wasn't enough and I was shaving 2 to 4 inches of snow off the center of the track. Something with giant tires was blazing that trail. Just like your situation, it was an ordeal. Started at 3pm, ended at 9pm, which was much much later than we anticipated. This was back in over 3 years ago.

If the trail is not icy it's a super easy trail but the condition that day was not ideal for stock vehicles and especially the amount of traffic we got. But dry condition you should have no issue.
