I love the room, taking a puppy out every hour to 2 hours will help. The other thing that helped us when training is putting up the water bowl up like 8 ish bc they have such small bladders, but keep taking going out to potty until you go to sleep and first thing in the morning take pepper out❤

Lovveee the room!! 🖤 We just adopted a year old Shepard, same thing! He’d never been inside before we got him! The first few weeks we just took him outside every about 30-45 mins (and extended it each week to longer times between) and we’d walk him around the perimeter of the yard a few times and gave HEAVYYY praises every time he’d do his business outside! We’ve had him almost a month now and NO accidents inside anymore!

Your family room looks great! Some tips if you decide to do more painting. Remove covers from light switches and electrical outlets - apply a piece of masking tape over the remaining outlet/lightswitch, that way you can paint to the edge without painting over the switch/cover etc. Also highly recommend purchasing a few inexpensive plastic drop sheets to catch any fallout from the roller or paint brushes and save your floors. Highly recommend a second coat for an even result. You did great though because even professional painters catch the molding/baseboards sometimes.

The color of the room looks awesome! My advice is to use positive reinforcement such as giving small treats when she lets you guys know that she needs to go. Lots of patience is very important. When my husband adopted our dog she would pee in the house a lot but he kept working with her and now she will hold it for 10+ hours if we're gone.

Pepper is adorable. I think patience is important, she is still young and it might take her a little longer to train. When you touch the bell do you say anything to her, like, pee-pee or go outside? You can also use her paw to touch the bell and say pee-pee or outside, eventually she will associate one with the other, if that makes sense 🙂 Best of luck

We have a fenced in yard and a doggie door. We trained our dogs to use the doggie door and go out whenever they need to. They learned in about two days! They were about 4 months old when we started. They were going to the bathroom in the house and after two days they started using the door and going outside! 😀💖

Your room is lovely! That paint color looks so good with your white trim. Painting hint...do NOT use masking tape when painting, spend the extra for painters tape. Masking tape, if not taken off immediately can rip off trim paint (don't ask me how I know this!) Dog training tip...find a little treat she likes, then use it ONLY when she asks to go outside, or does her job quickly when you do take her out. It just takes time and LOTS of patience...kind of like potty training a Little Person.🙃

tips for dof training: 1. take our time! it´s normal that the process takes some time, try to be patient. 2. introduce fixed hours and a daily routine for your dog e.g. breakfast at 8, walkies at 10, walkies at 4, dinner at 6. Younger dogs might need to go outside more often, so you might want to let your dog out in the garden early in the morning, around lunch and before bedtime again. 3. give treats outside when your dog peed/pooped (immediately after), that way the dog will learn that going to the bathroom outside is a good thing and eventually it will ask you to go outside. I only bought puppies, but we were very strict with rutines for our dogs. When the puppy woke up we would let them out in our garden and then we got dressed for their morning walk. When we got home they got their breakfast. From the time we came home our dogs never had to hold their bladder for longer than 3-4hours. They got their last meal for the day at 17.00 in the afternoon and then right out for a walk. When it’s time for bed we would do all our preparations for bedtime (except to chang to our pyjamas) and then we walked our dogs for the last time so they would last through the night. Our dogs would sleep in our bedrooms so they could wake us if they needed out for an emergency pee or puke. Good luck! 😃

I immediately shampooed my rugs when Briar was training. I also once had a schnauzer that i taught to ring the bell when she needed out. She picked it up asap! Pepper will get there, just takes some time. In the meantime, it can get frustrating. 😅

I trained my dog by taking her out almost every hour or 2. We went out the same door every time so she started walking to the slider when she needed to go. Even if she didn't do anything when we went out I took her out when she was there to learn that's how she alerted me. At bedtime I took her out once before her crate then woke up about 4 hours later to take her out and put her back in. Over time she didn't need that though and your dog might not either due to her age. Treats and feedings in her cage so she doesn't go potty in there and never has

I did some click training with my pups when little. A smart breed like yours. They responded well. I don’t need to click anymore but they are good, and very smart and know tons of tricks. My girl is so smart! I don’t need to talk to her, I use hand signals with behavior and tricks, or she’ll read my look. Lol my boy Parker more or less wants the treats lol Calling him Porker now 😂 but he’s good and he knows the commands as well. Look into it and check KZbin videos. It was fun too! Keep on the bell for outside, give her the command or signal and wait, don’t say it more than once or twice and let her figure it out, then click the thing (if you’re doing that) and/or give the treat and say yes immediately upon doing it. Then right away go outside and give a treat once out. I wouldn’t even wait her her to sit down or anything for the treat, just as soon as she’s outside give it, so she will associate it with going out the door and not sitting or whatever else you may have said. Then let her do her own thing until she goes and same thing, immediately an excited YES and click and/or treat! This way she sees she gets it after going out and another after going potty outside. I found that saying right, or that’s right, was confusing to mine because they know left and right, so I had to say yes or no. You’ll get it! She’s a smart breed and has a loving family, she’ll get there. It’s a huge change at this age to be learning to live in the house. Good luck!

Loving the dark walls!!! I would remove all of the rugs in your house while training her. It'll save you from cleaning them (even cleaning them never gets urine out). If she smells the urine on the carpet, she is more likely to go there again unfortunately. We crate trained Mason for 1 year and now he has free roam of the house but it's all about consistency. If you're having trouble, you can do sessions with trainers and they will tell you exact commands and ways to reward and reprimand. Puppies are the cutest but so much work lol.

This color is gorgeous! Brown and beige make the room warmer and cozy. I like black and white a lot, but adding neutral colors such as these ones, can transform any ambient. I think that t would look even better if the lights in the house were "warm white" (I don't know how you call it where you live), especially because you have a lot of golden objects. But it depends on your taste hehe. Anyway, great choice of color! PS: everytime I see Pepper I unconciously smile

We have two dogs that are potty trained. Our female Lola will take advantage when no one is around and pee on the area rugs. We have tried to take her out more often but that doesnt work. For whatever reason if she has the opportunity to go on a rug she will. We have cleaned the rug several times and she will go in the same spot. We now keep her in our office that has no rugs or carpet if we are out of the house. No accidents in the office so far. I think some dogs just like the rugs🤷‍♀️

So, not going to lie, I am not a dog person and this comment alone is probably going to “upset” some to say the least but someway somehow our two dogs treat me like the alpha. Pepper will soon assign one of you with this title and you will see who she responds to like “immediately”(this will be your alpha). Anywho, I am not sure if you and Johnny plan to crate train Pepper but I HIGHLY recommend this. She is not too old to learn this either as we got our Lab/Pit/cattle dog mix at 6 months and our Lab/Pit/Pyrenees mix at 3 months. Both are crate trained. You will def need to keep Pepper on a leash at first for a few weeks and accidents will unfortunately happen from time to time until she is a little over a year. This is our experience with our Pyrenees mix, he is bigger and just feel it took him a little longer to potty train. I would take her out as you have been doing anytime she drinks, take her out and if you can’t do this right away because you’re a mom so life happens, place her in the crate with a ratty towel. I say towel bc out larger breed mix would SHRED the puppy pads in his room 😮(got tired of cleaning that up). She is still young so she will Need to go out once before bed, let’s say 9PM and again at around 2-3AM ish. This means no more water after 9PM or whatever you set her bedtime to be. This can be anytime it just helps to stick with whatever time y’all choose. She should increasingly get better at holding her bladder as she gets older. I also recommend a cue word too. Like our boys know potty break means time to go outside to pee. And they have a set area to go(our whole yard is NOT their toilet. We can’t pee and poop all Over the house and neither will they lol.) Lastly, this part may suck to you but will save you and Johnny a headache. I would take up any rugs for now until she is potty trained. I honestly regret NOT doing this as I had beautiful rugs that my dogs essentially destroyed. Like over a grand min costs, I am thinking closer to $2k but don’t even want to truly count 😢😅. Ruggable works but doing that 2-3x a week becomes a bit annoying. So for a few months I had to sacrifice having my nice rugs down. And lastly, really want to stress the leash. Keep her on a 6ft leash where you can monitor her every move…you literally have to watch her like a hawk so she can’t sneak and have an accident and that way when you her do It, you tell her NO very firm(keep this consistent in tone so she knows okay this bad I can’t do this) and then take her outside let her pee and then put her in her crate so you can clean up and then you can let her out again as the crate is supposed to symbolize safety. Like now, my largest who is the youngest dog loves his crate and will go their on his own. Our oldest doesn’t like it but I do put him in his room if I need to mop the floors or clean up something I don’t want them to ingest. Okay this was long but I truly understand y’all plight! The dogs were what my husband wanted and I have “grown” to love them lol 😂 so tell Johnny, I get it bc I am def more of the neat freak so this was like a huge adjustment for me(not to say it’s not for you too) One more thing! The project looks gorgeous! We too are actually repainting almost 2500SF by ourselves and it does require patience but y’all totally can tackle this even beyond the rec room if y’all want! And less than perfect, so what. Not everyone has $2k+ to dedicate and even the time to paint a home “perfectly”. We have our son with Autism so just keeping paint off the floors and an even coat is a feat! 😊 Dios te bendigas! Sending your beautiful family love from OK!❤

You have had her such a short time so don’t give up. I would suggest that you took away the carpets until she is pottytrained. My dog was six months when I got her. She peed on the same spot outside for a very long time. Even though I walked her she waited until we came to her pottieplace”.

My vet said dogs that aren’t potty trained shouldn’t be able to run around the house. They should be crate trained until they are. That was hard because I wanted them out. I will tell you I have 4 inside dogs and the girls catch on so much faster

My dog was 2 when I got her. She was potty trained so to speak but still did mini pees many times on the carpet to leave her scent in a new place. She eventually stopped after 6 months. Every time I caught her in the act I put her outside to connect that she wees outside. I tried not to give negative attention to inside wees and instead positive attention to outside wees with treats and cuddles.

I wouldn’t free-feed her, meaning don’t have her food bowl filled constantly. Put her on a strict feeding schedule then take her out 20-30 mins after eating. Also I’d take her out every 30-45 mins until she realizes that the only place to potty is outside. Good luck! 🤗

Every time my dog peed or pooped in the house we made her smell it and tell her no. Then we bring her out side and when we would bring her back in we would put her in her kennel for like 2-3 minutes. It took like a week or two and she cough on and now she is almost one year old.

1. Don’t leave water out all day until she is potty trained. Only let her have it in the mornings and at night before you take her out and then when you feed her. Once she is trained you can leave it out all day. 2. Ring the bell and immediately take her out and make sure you have treats. AAS SOON as she potties celebrate it like your baby just took their first step and automatically give her a treat. It sounds obnoxious but that’s what she needs! If she rings the bell and you hear it, go ahead and celebrate that and immediately take her out. Even if she doesn’t really have to go. 3. If she potties and you catch her in the act, tell her no and then just go ahead and take her outside so you’re correcting the behavior. They always associate praise or reprimand with the very last thing they did so if you don’t catch her in the act then don’t get on to her. If she’s just laying there chewing a toy and you try to get on to her for peeing, she will think she’s getting in trouble for chewing the toy. If that makes sense. And then just lots of patience. If you use a crate then take her out before and after being in there.😊

Patience and routine with Pepper's house training. Try to take her out at roughly the same times everyday. Every dog is different. Because Pepper is older it may help if you take her out on leash to the sidewalk where other dogs do their business only while she's still learning, once she catches on you'll be able to let her out into the yard at those same times. Dogs live in the moment so unless you catch her in the act do not bother disciplining her as she won't understand why you're upset with her.
