Henriette, thank you for taking us along on your trip to Copenhagen! It is such a beautiful city. How I wish I could visit Tivoli Gardens and all the wonderful Christmas shops! Your mother makes such a beautiful model and now I see where you get your beautiful looks from. The gonks became very popular in the US just a few years ago and they sell them for every occasion now, but here we just say gnomes. I know, I know there's a difference. 😊 Prior to that you might see the actual gnomes (made of plaster) for your garden, but they were scarce. I am amazed at the DIY Christmas kit, I've never seen anything like it. I don't think I have the patience you do. I enjoy your history lessons along with everything. I did not know those paper stars originated there. When I was young, we had German neighbors move nextdoor. The mother made these stars for our family's Christmas tree. She dipped hers in hot wax and sprinkled them with glitter so they would last for several years. 🎄🤶🎅🦌🎁☃️

I really wanted to show you where I came from originally and share some of my Danish culture and Christmas traditions. I have visited Tivoli Gardens many times but I still find it magical. My mother is amazing - she is 81 years old and still looks so good. I look like my dad who passed many years ago. Honks are such a Scandinavian thing but they also became fashionable here in England a few years ago. We also have gnomes but they are specifically meant for gardens. I really enjoyed building the Christmas kit, I did it over a few sessions but I hear you. It does require some patience. Being able to make the paper stars is almost a right of passage 😂 If you are Danish, then you must be able to make paper stars 😂 They are made all over Scandinavia and Germany too. I am danish who lives in the south of France and I miss the Christmases of my childhood😢. Every year my uncle sends me sweets, an advent candle and decorations for my tree and my home (kravlenisse😊). When it’s my mother who cooks the Christmas meal (on the 24), we have flæskesteg, brunede kartofler, rødkal and risalamande ; and a french Christmas meal on the 25. Thank you so much for your wonderful message, I loved reading it. Your uncle sounds like such a fantastic man, sending you all the Danish Christmas things. We have celebrated two Christmas’ for many years (Danish and English ) but now we only do the Danish Christmas. Both my children prefer the Danish dinner and we have now successfully taught our local butcher how to prepare the shoulder of pork 😂 My mum has taught my husband how to do caramelised potatoes so he is in charge of those. What a beautiful city, thanks for showing. I loved the decorations. When I'd was little, the storefronts downtown would be decorated with animated dolls and elves fixed up. What a great tour you gave us of Copenhaven! Beautiful! It was fun seeing your lovely mother. It reminds me so much of doing all the Christmas things with my mother, who died five years ago just three months shy of her 100th birthday. She was so blessed to die in her right mind and in her own bed! And she blessed me every day for 71 years! Continue to enjoy your holidays!

Thank you for your lovely message, I am very grateful. We do occasionally have electric power outages but what is interesting about Denmark is their use of windmills. When it’s windy, electricity is cheaper and that’s the day people do their washing etc. There are various heating systems depending on where you live. If you are in the country, then most people have an oil boiler but in Copenhagen there is a central heating system that heats most of the homes. I hope that’s helpful.
