Welcome to Modern Homestead Alaska. We are located in South Central Alaska near the town of Wasilla. Living in Alaska and building our dream of “modern Homesteading” through the wilds of winter and the long summer days. We started building our Modern Homestead in 2021. We have since completed the upper levels of our home. Built a 16x16 foot chicken coop that dreams are made of. Our chicken ladies live in luxury as they view the beautiful lake from large windows inside the beautiful coop. We raise our own poultry, hunt for our food. We are avid fisherman And woman. We also built an amazing and beautiful wood shed. We have great big garden planes for the future. Join us as we dream big dreams and live everyday working hard to accomplish them.

Jess,I'm with you! Fudge brownies are the best. I'm planning a trip to the USA this next month, so I'm going to check out both dark chocolate and white chocolate bark. Plus the cool varieties of baking supplies for the holidays. I often get help from the store, especially on canning days! Can't wait to see the final harvest and prep of the bounty. I love potato soup and I add a bit of cream cheese towards the end for a richer creamier soup, so yummy. I would love to have a wood stove, I remember my grandmother cooking on one when I was little and she would bake bread in hers and us grandkids sat at that kitchen table just drooling as we anxiously waited for a warm slice of bread with fresh churned butter and her homemade jam! Funny, that memory just popped into my head when I saw your stove! There is nothing better then wood burning heat to make you feel so cosy and comfy 🔥❤🍞

Great video Jessica. It’s always so awesome when we get to like the stove for the first time. Regarding your oven temperature, I found of the firewood is cut a little smaller it’s way easier to bake and cook with it. But maybe you do that already, but wanted to mention it. They now have the Cuisiniere 3.0 that is supposed to correct the oven temperature deficiency. I sure hope so, I just bought one... I'll let you know when I get it hooked up in October.

Our cabin at the beach had a wood stove. We'd go out and pick wild blackberries and nana would make an awesome pie. She also did stews, roasts etc..she cooked on wood stoves most her life. She used the wood to manipulate the heat. I imagine with years and years of practice she had it down. Now I'm hungry for potato soup.❤

I do 60 eggs in my Freeze Dryer. Whip them, and put on 4 trays. When done, I put in a 1/2 gallon glass mason jar, for short term storage. Perfect for scramble eggs, French Toast and baking!

Funny you mentioned decorating for fall, I decorated for Halloween even though we get 2-3 trick or treaters. That’s it. How can I get a picture to you? Anyway, I have to try making that soup. Only way I made it was from an envelope and Larry didn’t like it. Homemade he might. I really like the time you took to describe your stove. Some others would just say go to this site and check it out. Obviously in Florida, we really don’t need one. My family had solely a wood stove just for heating at home with oil as secondary. Larry, well being from the suburbs just had gas hot air. After we met, the first winter at my parents house I was working on the wood stove and Larry didn’t know what the bellows was. Poor guy. Anyway, still have to watch your prior video on food prepping. Take care till next time.😊
