What's wrong with other stores selling drinks? Lcbo is afraid of competition
@fhanoverartist3 ай бұрын
I have travelled to many countries. A government managed alcoholic sales venue is viewed by foreigners as absurd. This is not 1927. Prohibition is over. Get on with modern Canada. LCBO controls are from prohibition era when they wanted to legalize alcohol. Similar to todays control ID cannibis sales venues. Foreigners already think we are ridiculous. There are bigger things to worry about.

@pacman35563 ай бұрын
@@UzumakiNaruto_ Ontario is the only place that govt controlled LCBO. You can go to pretty much any other province and the sale of alcohol is privatized and they don't have any different rates in drunk driving etc then Ontario does. Someone that wants liquor or to drink and drive will do it whether they buy it from an LCBO or from a private store. Being govt run has nothing to do with drunk driving. People will do it or not do it no matter where they get alcohol from (and more than likely most drunk driving is at night when bars close and people think they are good to drive home....so the alcohol is coming from bars in a lot of cases not a private or govt controlled store).

I’m 41 and boy have my views changed. I have been working since 16 and paying my taxes. I did not get a free ride and the government didn’t provide for me. LCBO is upset that their jobs can not be guaranteed. I wish all government employees had to face that reality as well. I have not been guarantied a job since I entered the work force 40 years ago lol. I think Amazon should start selling and delivering alcoholic beverages to my home. I am sure there are ways with todays technology to prove age for alcohol. That would at least keep the drunks off the street when they need a fix!

The average person doesn't have 100K to just get their foot in the door and banks don't just hand out a couple of million to anyone walking in their door. @topsznaj37913 ай бұрын
EXACTLY! Moving alcohol to a privatized model has proven to work, at scale in the USA among other countries. Turning alcohol back to the open market makes sense. I've unironically NEVER had a good experience when asking LCBO workers for recommendations on wine, beer, or spirits and that sentiment seems to be shared by quite a few people. These people aren't passionate about alcohol, it's just a job to them. So while they might be educated in different areas and professions, it doesn't translate to the consumer as it should. Time to bring an end to the liquor commission.
